Is there a knot that could attach these twigs perpendicularly to the top one, but allow them to dangle? The objective is making a wind chime.

Thanks in advance. Please be gentle, I'm a newb.

Least stretchy cord?

I'd like to make a cord with knots in it at various points to use as a template for adjusting the length of a radio antenna. It needs to be about 18 feet long.

Can you suggest a cord that won't stretch too much? The lengths need to be repeatable to within a half inch or so.

Looking for a knot that cinches onto something without the rope needing to slide around the object.

I'm trying to create something like a tourniquet where the rope can be cinched down dramatically, then locked in place with a quick release, and the rope itself needs to be stationary on the object being tied so that it doesn't slide around it while the cinching is done.

Like if I cut myself on a powertool in my workshop and I need to tie it off without giving myself rope burn, but also I want to be able to release it without cutting the rope.

The cinching knots I see slide the rope around to create the cinching force, which will damage the surface of whatever I'm cinching onto.

Advice for Monkey Fist

Been having trouble with the monkey fist.

Particularly the small zipper pull version where it’s a 2 x2 1/10” cord and instead of using a bearing, you tie an overhand stopper.

The main area where issues arise is at the end when I start tightening everything up. It would be nice if anyone could give some advice or techniques on how to tighten the ball up without it looking like a pile of cord

unknot this lanyard

https://imgur.com/zGuelg1

Somehow the top strand of the lanyard got twisted under the bottom strand. Is there a way to unknot this? so it goes back to the original config?

my mind doesn't do knots very well.

Monkey Fist Cleaning

I was gifted this monkey first keychain and would love to clean it up as it has a ton of sentimental value for me. Any advice without damaging the integrity of the knot? Not sure what type of rope was used. It's not in horrible shape but definitely has some residue/grease.

Best trucker's hitch for paracord

I've been playing around with various mid-line loop knots to form the loop for a trucker's hitch in some old paracord that has a lot of friction. I'm applying as much loading to it as my feeble muscles can muster in order to identify which is easiest loop to untie.

So far I've tried the following:

  • Classic slip knot - Very hard to untie after heavy loading
  • Slip knot with extra turns before pulling the bight through - A bit easier to untie but not much
  • Inline figure eight - Also very hard to untie after heavy loading
  • Alpine butterfly - Easier to untie but still holds a lot more tension than I would like
  • Rigger's loop knot - Similar to alpine butterfly but a bit quicker to tie and a bit harder to untie
  • Cat's paw knot - Works well with even loading on both loops but tends to walk down the line while loading
  • Bowline-on-a-bight - Easy to untie and works well when both loops are loaded equally or when using each loop individually to make a two-stage trucker's hitch
  • Artilleryman's loop - Looked promising at first but needs to be dressed and tightened well or it walks down the rope and cinches down the loop under tension
  • Farmer's loop - One of the best so far in terms of easy untying after heavy loading
  • Double dragon - Nearly as easy to untie as the farmer's loop but more convenient to adjust position/size of loop while tying
  • Half sheep shank - Holds better in larger line than paracord but functional and practically unties itself however it makes a long knot that uses a lot of cordage and is easily tied wrong, in which case it collapses under load

Has anyone else got any favourites not mentioned above?

FYI I'm loading the line as heavy as I can by slipping a bight through the loop instead of a single line then using the end of that bight as a loop and so on to form a multi-stage trucker's hitch. For the last loop I form a blackwall hitch by putting the end through the loop twice (also known as an automatic trucker's hitch) then tightening via a marlinespike hitch.

Knot possible?

Is it possible to tie together these two strings A & B?
As you can see, each string is "double".

The other ends (outside of photo) cannot be used, so any knot would have to be done with what's visible in the photo.

... or do I need to get some plastic thingy to join this together (like a carabiner hook for example)

What knot is this?

I "invented" a knot that's probably been invented a million times before. Does it have a name?

Help with securing a hammock to a hammock stand using a closed-loop rope

Hi reddit, I am in need of your expertise.

I bought an hammock with a closed loop end (https://www.jardin-confort.ch/cdn/shop/products/la-siesta-hamac-classique-brisa-200cm-sea-salt-949633_1024x.jpg?v=1679529856) and need to hang it to my hammock stand which also has a closed loop end (https://www.ikea.com/ch/en/images/products/bockoen-hammock-stand-outdoor-black__1137844_pe879767_s5.jpg?f=xl). I bought a closed-loop end sling (https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcSEVDP7QLcZw6US8p0U2Dk-frdcoExJuWfpBmzb-XtqqNUFxjpYG84h5QCnsaFEBOEV5GgqS_wtuHoviclMZqscZYxhzvHpJ9AkOOQccIj9TE336aRwIet2V75u) to do it but I can't for the love of me figure out how. I checked many knots sites but I can't figure it out.

I thought of using a carabiner but the hammock company suggested using a type of rope as the carabiner could damage the hammock part.

I need the knot to hold potentially all summer, as I am going to leave the hammock out (that's why I bought that sling, it seemed to resist the weather better). So I am looking for a knot that strengthen when under tension.

I know I can use a cow hitch on either the hammock or the stand side, but then I have no idea what to do with the other side. I also need to have no "slack" between the hammock end and the hammock stand, otherwise the hammock will be on the floor.

Thanks a lot!

What type of knot should I use to secure a safety line to a water well pump cylinder?

I'm installing a hand pump on a water well tomorrow using 6 ft PVC drop pipe to a depth of ~42 ft. I'll be using a safety line(1/4" hollow braided polypropylene) tied off between the cylinder and the foot valve. The purpose of this is to prevent losing the cylinder/pipe down the well if something goes wrong.

I need to figure out what an appropriate knot to use for this application but have found little info. Here's a photo of what I'm after but this video doesn't describe precisely how the cylinder is tied off. The rope is submerged and would have very little to no tension on it most of the time unless it was needed to pull the cylinder and piping back up in an emergency. The cylinder would be vibrating somewhat when in use so I'd imagine I want a knot that wouldn't come loose over time and would really clamp tight if needed to pull the cylinder and pipe back up using the rope.

intriguing mystery knot on beautiful sequence

this is a hay hauler’s hitch using a bowline on a bight instead of a slippery half-hitch it’s then two half-hitches followed by a third half that crosses back in sequence before the two half’s before being tied. what is this third sort of “locked line hitch” called?

What's a good knot to replace a ball chain (to attach a small keychain to my house key ring)?

I carry around some ear plugs for my commute, and it is a small twist top container that could be connected to something with a ball chain attached through a small loop. Recently the chain snapped, so I'm looking for a way to replace its function with a string and a knot at end to hold the ends together.

Knot for lifting bridle

What is the best knot to use in a lifting bridle for a (500 pound) boat? There will be four ropes connected to four shackles on the boat, which all connect to a single crane hook. Im thinking dyneema or 1/4 inch dacron double braid. A bowline at each end of each rope? Larger loops connected with a square knot? Other? Which knot will reduce the strength of the rope the least? Thank you.

What knot for this application?

Hey all,

So at my work we have these little buggy cars which we drive around site in to get to different jobs (I work in maintenance).

On the back of the buggy there's a small bed for you to store tools in etc, and sticking up where the buggy meets the bed is a big metal brace in the shape of a capital H.

Usually there's two bungees hanging from each end of the H with hooks each side for us to secure stuff against the bar, e.g. a ladder, a long piece of wood etc.

What's the best way for me to pull the cord around the item and keep it secure (or through depending on what it is)and then to secure it back to where the cord hangs from?

Most people will just loop it round and it does the job but I want a secure method for it something heavier or longer is being carried.

If pictures are needed I can get one of the back of the buggy
