i recently graduated with a degree in journalism. i couldn't get a job through college placements, and honestly speaking, i wasn't even interested in most of what was being offered.
it's been 5 months since then, i have done internships at two to three places. i know i do have the required skills. but I'm unable to get a job. my friends got absorbed into the organisations while doing the internships, and here i am. i am honestly so disappointed in everything, but i really don't want to do what isn't my interest and i'm unable to get any good job. i'm just very very disappointed in myself. i honestly don't feel like a failure, but i am sick of nothing turning in my favour. i am tired of everything. i don't know if i can hold onto this for longer.
A few months ago I was provided with a contact by my relative so as to get an internship at a news organisation in my country. I contacted the person at least two times and he assured me that I'll get the internship. However, i later found an another Internship at a magazine which i felt like was a better option. I didn't inform the person about this and joined the internship at magazine. A few days ago when i called him asking about any available job positions at his office, he talked quite politely and asked me to share my CV. I asked him about the available role of feature writer at their place, but he said that they'd hired the interns for that. This felt very embarassing for and i felt like i was really dumb for not informing him prior that I'll join elsewhere. I occasionally come to think of it and it leaves me so embarassed.
Hi everyone,
I am no journalist but I am a big football (soccer) fan/follower.
FIFA 2026 will have 13 games in Vancouver and Seattle, I was planning to see if I can provide service to journalist covering this event with my vehicle.
This way I can have fun being around journalist and also providing service to what I love (football)
Note*: I am an IT infrastructure Engineer working for an enterprise corporate, but I can take one month off and make some extra cash from what I love
Hi, I was an international student in US and I’m currently working a part time local breaking news role on OPT. I’ve heard back on offers from reputable companies but just this week I lost two of them because they were unable to offer visa sponsorship. Can someone guide me on how best I can get a job? I’m kinda desperate at this point
i tried contacting two of them. but it didn't work. i believe they are either connected to some automated response or they're just old numbers that nobody actually updated along with time
I regularly see these at the bottom of all their job ads, and I haven't got the slightest idea what they mean. I assume that they're related to internal hiring practices - possibly the degree to which they're prioritising internal candidates? However I am not sure.
I have an undergrad degree in international studies and a master’s in English that I got to pass time during Covid (I applied to a bunch of scholarships so I didn’t have to pay much for it). I always knew I wanted to work in the journalism field but didn’t know where to start after grad school without an internship or even an actual degree in the subject. I was able to publish a few freelance articles but wasn’t able to find an actual job in the field. I obviously needed a job to pay my bills, so I decided to become a teacher - a decision I am now regretting. Although I love and care for my students, it isn’t my passion. I want, more than anything, to build a lucrative career in journalism. However, I just don’t know if it is too late for me (in my mid-20’s) with so little experience in the field to do so.
[Urgent help needed] We have a very old book market in the capital city of our country. The footfall of book buyers has almost dwindled, and the visitors who visit the place, it's only because of popular food stalls erected in the area. A number of news agencies have covered the story in the span of 10 months from Jan-October. I thought if I should give the angle that despite the news coverage there's no impact on the condition of the book market. However, I find this idea irrelevant because nobody really expects a change through the basic idea of reporting, that too, in a book market which is already almost extinct. What do you think of the angle of the story I am making? I don't want to cover the story from the same angle because I feel like it'll look copied and plagiarised. Any suggestions are welcome.
I do have almost three months of internship experience. But I don't have any bylines under my name. I am being offered an internship, but it's going to be unpaid. But they might let me write for their platform and also give me credit for it. I haven't been able to find a job, it's been almost five months now. I feel like it's only because I don't have published work under my name yet. Is it okay for a fresher to keep looking for a job with an internship experience of 2-3 months? Or should i gain more experience?
Just designed the first issue for the magazine U.N.C.

I am looking for anyone to provide content/articles to fill in a few empty spaces. Anywhere from 3 paragraphs of current events or even thought piece is enough. But if you have full blown articles you want to share with the world I am printing the physical Monday and online should be up a week from today.
If you barely have journalism experience other than college newspaper, is it better to delve directly into journalism right after graduation or pursue grad school? I am considering a Master's (not sure in what, ideally one that combines journalism + public policy/politics) but I am unsure whether that would make me stand out more than if I directly get journalism experience at a small publication. People who went to grad school and then became journalists, was it worth it and do you feel like it opened doors? Thanks!
i have almost 2.5 months experience through internships. i was suggested by an editor of a highly renowned magazine in my country that i have done enough internships and that i should start looking for full-time jobs. it was when i inquired her about any editorial internships at her magazine. i'm so confused. i regret sitting free for past two months, but I'd been desperately applying for jobs and even internships. my friend's are forcing me to take up anything as an intern because I'm free rn, but my parents don't want the same. they only want me to get a full-time job.
I've sent off a few enquiries but I'm met with automated messages like "We are currently closed for new applications until further notice" and no information anywhere on when it will be open again. None of the listings online are up to date. It feels like I'm going round in circles and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have a reliable source for internships/work experience opportunities at UK newspapers? Thanks.
please help. what should be the correct format of a pitch to be submitted to a magazine publication. should it include a headline? what should be the word limit? do I need to mention who I can interview, without yet having reached out to people to be interviewed?

As the title suggests, I want to get hired somewhere within NYS, but most of the jobs I see online are located in NYC.
Now, that's not entirely surprisingly, but part of my issue is the competing with bona fide journalists in an already competitive job market (that's particularly not hiring people under 25.)
I'm assuming it's less competitive—as a literally less and not that there's no competition—outside of NYC just because of the smaller concentration of people. Does anyone know of any smaller news organizations within any of the NYS countries or where I might find them?
Hi, I have a passion project I would like a journalist to write about. There is already an outline created for the story and public documentation to back everything up. I just think it is a story that should be in the public, if that makes sense.
Any suggestions on where I can find an investigative journalist to write this story?
Thanks!
Applied to Bloomberg internship about a month ago and haven't heard back about whether or not I got selected for the next round. Did they start sending emails to selected applicants already?
I asked about how to get into journalism a while ago and a big part of it that people told me was networking. How exactly do you do that?
I've been trying to pitch stories. But I'm at my home currently, so it's difficult for me to cover unique ideas. Is it good to putch with the help of secondary sources? How can i make my story unique and stand out regardless of primary or secondary sources?
I am being called for a test at a newspaper. The city where job is located is pretty decent. But I'll be nowhere near anyone known. My friends are all located in a different city. I'm scared what if things turn out lonely and depressing since I already face mental health issues. Also, it's for the post of a sub-editor. I've always wanted to report and write. Always. It's been a dream of mine. But I'm barely getting any response when i apply for jobs. So, I'm afraid it'll be a stupid decision relatively to not go for test. I wonder if i am selected, will it be easier for me to switch roles? From an editor to that of a reporter. I don't want a desk job already. I wish to explore a lot. I'm so confused and anxious. Please help.
Hi journalists of reddit,
I'm a recently qualified gold-standard NCTJ journalist who runs their own YouTube channel! As r/journalism reminds us all most days, it isn't a great time to be coming into the industry so I've done everything I can to succeed regardless.
I've been applying for jobs with a few very close calls but could do with some paid work or even just work experience/shadowing. If anyone could give me some contacts or point me in the right direction it would be immensely appreciated.
I've also got a Louis Theroux themed showreel if you read this far :)
Cheers.
Note: I thought I'd post here rather than on r/journalism but mods please lmk if it would be okay to post there
I am a college junior with two years of student journalism experience in the US who plans to live in Spain after graduation. I am a dual citizen and speak both languages fluently. I would love to write for US-based publications from Spain (probably covering Spain/Europe) but I am afraid it might be too competitive and that a US publication wouldn’t bet on someone without any full-time newsroom experience for a job based abroad. I am on track to graduate a semester early with good grades, a lot of articles written for my college newspaper, references, a couple part-time jobs, etc. but I’m not sure how far that will get me.
How realistic is getting such an opportunity right after graduation? Should I look for other US work experience (internships, fellowships, local journalism) before making that move? If I work for a Spanish newsroom, in Spanish, will that experience still be considered if I apply to journalism jobs with US outlets later on? What about working in non-journalism jobs for a few years before attempting this? Any ideas of who to talk to or how to prepare? Thank you!
i am a fresher yet, just graduated with a degree in journalism. i only have experience from several internships and write-ups i did for our departmental newspapers and magazines. 1st instance, it was when i did my first story for our first ever college newspaper. the story featured a florist in the city, a street vendor- he is. i had an amazing experience as I'd always wanted to interview him, and there was a lot i got to know, about how they are exploited by government subordinates and everything. however, he told me and my friends to help him find a way so that he could have a stable business and no longer had to evacuate when there was a raid by municipality. i asked people around and even looked up on the internet but it's just how rules are in the city, there are specific areas where street vendors are not allowed. once, i was crossing the road. i saw him and stopped. he asked if we were looking into his matter. i said we were because i was apparently determined to help him out. now the college is over and i did nothing about it. when i presented my guilt to my friend, she said that it's fine and that we are just students- but i feel like i kept him in delusion. i'm so full of guilt.
2nd instance, a did cover a famous bookstore at the place. the owner's interview was included. though, he barely showed any interest in providing us with any major information and his answers were so rough we couldn't really get any interesting information for the story. i was so heartbroken because he prolly thought we were just doing a story for another college newspaper, which we obviously were. and he later directed us to the paper cuttings hung in the bookstore. he told us we could grab any information we required from there. and so we did. he told me to share whatever i write (so that he could probably share it on his social media etc.), but i never shared the piece because i felt like i had copied it from just another article, hung at the bookstore which I really did. and it was humiliating because i know i could do better.
3rd instance, i interview a college alumni of mine. i was supposed to share the piece with her after i was done, but i did not. it was also because people took a lot of time correcting errors after the final copy. but it was also because i procrastinated or whatever it was. i just feel so guilty about many other mistakes i made. i cannot put my brain at rest often.
