Anyone take driving test recently?

My test is scheduled for Wednesday, and I've done some practice in my moms car around the Janesville dmv. Do you know where all they go? Any tips?

Edit: thank you all for the help, I passed and am now gonna sleep for a year to recover from the stress.

Freshly cut oak/maple?

Im looking for freshly cut Oak, or Maple logs (other species will work too, depending on the species, these are just the best ones) for Shiitake mushroom cultivation. Does anyone know any arborists, tree services or the like in the area that sell unsplit logs?

Palmer Park Wading Pool

Saw they finally started work on the new wading pool in Palmer Park. Pretty upsetti spaghetti about the location since they clearcut a bunch of large oaks and walnuts just to build a similar sized pool area as the one that already exists across the street. Judging by size of the trunks and species, some of those trees removed were over 150 years old.

I don't know where to find the RFPs for the project, but I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the decision made here. You already have to demo the old water park, so why not regrade to reduce risk of flooding and build on the already existing spot?

You can move dirt and rock pretty easily. It's a much more time consuming process to have mature, aged shade trees to add value and aesthetics to our parks. We won't see the likes of these trees again until generations of people have passed.

I don't know. Doesn't sound at all like "Tree City USA".

Janesville, do you not care about the stolen and fraudulent drivers accounts at Walmart?

Does our community care about the delivery service offered through Janesville Walmart? Is it too much to ask for you to call Janesville Walmart and demand for ID checks for all shopping and pickup deliveries? There are dozens of stolen accounts used daily to take your deliveries to your home. These are accounts not matching the names of the person driving. They have no criminal background checks, no proof of registration or verified insurance on their vehicles. So if they damage your vehicle or property, it's going to be out of your pocket. They do not pay taxes on any of the income they are earning. They are desperate enough to purchase stolen identities, what else are they desperate enough to do? This is criminal felony activity. If they are not engaging in anything illegal, then a simple ID checks will prove them to be deserving of the employment. Would it be OK if they came to your W2 job with false identities, and take away employment opportunities to those who are hard working people in our communities? Do you want someone committing a felony to come to your home? This is a nationwide problem through all delivery apps. In the tens of thousands. At tax time many a thousand of people receive a 1099 for delivery gig work income they never did. Yet it's on them to fix the issues. While the ones committing the crime vanish. The income from the Spark app (primarily only delivers for Walmart) is immediately added to a Walmart owned debit card called One. No physical address needed. Please Janesville, please be the community that cares and call our Janesville Walmart, ask for the store manager and demand for them to ID all shopping and delivery drivers. It takes so little effort to make sure our community is safe.

Homemade beef broth nearby?

Does anybody know of a butcher shop or any other shop that sells homemade beef broth? I'm looking to make French Onion Soup--store bought broth isn't cutting it and I'm not particularly willing to make it myself. Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm coming to Janesville to write about the town post-GM. What do you think is the story here?

Hi folks! I’m a reporter for an Asia-based media outlet, covering the upcoming U.S. election. While I’m not American, I spent 6 years in grad school at UW Madison, and I’ve come to see Wisconsin as my home state—so I’m really excited to share Janesville’s story.

I’m curious to hear from Janesvillians: What are the biggest issues concerning you now? How has the town fared since GM left in 2008? Are jobs back or has any new industry come to town? What (policies, etc.) can make Janesville better?

P.S. I'll also be heading to Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, and Baraboo for other stories. If you think there are topics worth covering in these areas, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Handyman for Siding Repair

I need a reliable handyman for siding repair that was damaged during the tornado in June. Every contractor that I have contacted wants to sign the whole house. The handyman’s that I have talked to have been unresponsive. I need to get this done before winter. I have leftover material from the previous siding job that I would like to use. Can anyone supply me with a reliable handyman that has experience siding?

Question about Kwik Trip

What happened to the Faygo Diet Orange? I used to buy a bottle every day on my way to work, but switched to buying cans from Woodmans for a while. I didn't make my usual shopping trip last weekend, and I haven't been able to find diet orange anywhere in town. I've been to 4 different stores, either Kwik Trip or Stop and Go, and they had none. Some didn't even have open spaces in the cooler for diet. It bums me out, I don't like regular soda, and Faygo makes the best diet orange soda.

Schools.

Hey everyone.

Our kid is getting ready to start 4k next year, so we are trying to figure out which school system to get her into. We have heard some very troubling things regarding the public school system. Is there any truth behind it or is this just "you only hear about the bad things" kind of situation. Would love some opinions on schools in the Janesville area.

Places to donate large volume of clothes?

Is there any men's/women's shelters that take large donations of clothes near/in Janesville? I have a LOT of clothes leftover from my multi-family garage sale and want to get rid of them, but I want them to go to a good cause (not Goodwill).
