House sitting and dog feeding

Hi, I'm going to be house sitting "overnight stay"for a co worker over the holiday break. From 24th of December to the 7th of January 2020. Also feeding 2 dogs he has twice a day. What would the ideal charge be?

Help getting into housesitting

I am a novice to housesitting and petsitting and only actually done it among friends and family, but I heard its a good way to earn money or earn a place to stay while traveling without paying large hotel bills.

I joined Rover.com which supposedly offers house pet sitting gigs for pay, however despite being approved about a month or two ago I haven't received a request yet.

I noticed there are several different types of housesitting/petsitting sites,
there are ones like Housesitter.com and Petsitter.com seems to focus on paid gigs in which potential owners set the hire price and make it visible to the perspective sitters on the site. While other sites like Trustedhousesitters.com, and Housesittersamerica.com which focuses on housesitting for travelers but mostly in exchange for free accommodations, though incidental costs of staying in the house may be worked out. Though all these sites require some sort of a fee to use.

I am curious about which type of sites is best to start with and which ways to get recognition, including to help get future gigs on Rover.com speaking of which I would also like to ask do you increase the chance of getting Rover gigs if you move around your set cities once in a while.

Also if one can share their experience of starting out housesitting/petsitting that would be great as well.

Do you always make a written agreement for your housesitting assignments?

I mean a written agreement aside from confirming the sit through whatever given house sitting website. So I have an upcoming set confirmed but the couple seems pretty laid-back about things. But I do want some sort of written agreement, which they said they are going to do. However I’m just curious for experienced housesitters to weigh in on if they have experienced sitting with or without written agreements and remember what their experience has been like? Thank you

House sitter will get 2 weeks out of parents house-how much to pay?

How much should we pay our house-sitter? Details: We will be gone for two weeks. We have two cats (who will need food, water, litter box emptying and attention if they aren’t too shy) and a small veggie garden that needs daily watering. We have a comfy guest room and a desirable kitchen and backyard. Our prospective house sitter (mid 20’s) lives with his parents so he’d get the bonus of his own place for a couple of weeks. Edited to add: a local pet sitting business charges $20/day for am and pm check in. What do you think is a fair price to pay him? Thanks!

Recommend house-sitting websites?

Hello, I am looking into getting into house-sitting (as a house sitter not home owner). Most websites cost about $100 to sign up. I don't want to waste money and sign up to many websites. Can you recommend the best one's to sign up to? I am based in Australia and would be house-sitting around Australia.

The ones I have found are:

How do I Make Money House Sitting

Here's the deal. I want to house sit because I've done it before for a family friend and have gotten paid for it. I took care of her pets, got her mail, and stuff. All of the websites I've found like trustedhousesitters.com and normador.com want to send me over seas and make me do it for free. First of all, I don't want to go overseas right now. Secondly, I definitely don't want to be doing it for free. Is there a website that I can use to find local jobs that will pay me?

Deposit and Utilities

I would love some opinions on this! I was offered a chance to apply (further apply?) for a house sit in Ireland for ten days with two dogs. Car not included so we would be renting one. The house sitters told us we would need to pay a 300 Euro deposit from which would be deducted the cost of electricity, oil, wood burned, and internet usage. They said the meters would all be marked and read ahead of time and then then costs deducted from deposit. I felt offended. I've paid for house sitters in the past who have done a subpar job and paid them like $30 a day. I think to expect this on a 10 day sit is insane. I do understand if it was a long term sit that it might be expected to contribute to utilities, but to pay all of them for the time the sitter is gone as though they are getting nothing from this and be expected to cough up a 300 Euro deposit feels gross and wrong to me. Opinions?

Need guidelines for house sitting home for sale

I'll be house sitting for 6 months at a home that's just been listed for sale. This would be my second time house sitting for this homeowner. What guidelines should I include in our Standard Agreement for this particular arrangement?

Thanks!

Questions about trusted housesitters

So before I sign up for this website, they market pet sitting kind of with the housesitting. Do most of these sitting jobs have pets as well? Also it seems like they have a large amount of short-term jobs, but I’m looking for something that’s longer-term, a couple of months long at the least (unless it’s close to me.)

Any insight is helpful. Thank you

How far in advance are house sitting requests usually posted on the big sites?

Trying to find something for August, but not noticing many opportunities. Should I try again closer to the dates? (It'd be nice to be able to get tickets now though)

Odds for a young man travelling by himself?

Hi all! I'm travelling on a shoestring at the moment, but with a real "drifting leaf" route at the moment. As such, housesitting sounds like a dream solution, especially as I really miss my dog which is back home.

I was wondering though how easy it is to get housesitting gigs? I realise this is not necessarily the best question, as I assume it varies depending on the website, the quality of your profile etc. But as a young (22) man travelling by himself, I fear that it may be difficult for me to be successful in my applications, and since I'm on such a limited budget I'm hesitant to invest in a membership.

Any feedback and advice will be much appreciated!

Which housesitting sites are actually legit?

I am considering traveling in the UK via a combination of housesitting, couchsurfing, and short-term rentals. Which websites are legit and won't just eat up my sign-up fee?

Baby Boomers Get Set to Travel the Globe

Today’s Baby Boomer generation could become some of the nation’s biggest globetrotters, with well over 14 million of us planning on travelling more regularly over the next five years.

Research shows that travel is at the top of baby boomers agendas, with over half (54%) of us wanting to travel more regularly and to long-haul destinations and a further fifth (22%) of us wanting to go on a once in a lifetime holiday in the next decade.

In fact, travel even takes priority over spending more time with friends and family (48%), getting fit (37%), and finding a healthier way of life (31%).

Over 11% of boomers over 50 plan on travelling on their own, whilst a more conventional bunch of us plan on seeing the sites of the world with our partner (77%) or with friends (26%).

Canada, Australia and New Zealand are top of the list of travel hotspots, with over a quarter (26%) wanting to visit down under, followed by countries in Europe (21%). And whilst some plan on seeing more of the US (8%), people in their 50s and over also want to venture to places as far afield as China, Africa, Russia and Antarctic.

Alongside the appetite to travel, the baby boomers has also set our sights on adventure and experiences, with off-roading (9%), flying a helicopter (10%), scuba diving (7%) and going to music festivals (7%) as activities we would like to tick off their lists in the future. Research findings shows that Baby Boomers don’t plan to sit back and enjoy a slower pace of life. Quite the opposite in fact, with long haul destinations and a thirst for adventure firmly on our agenda.

Housesitting is fast becoming the new, hot trend that will allow boomers to visit places they probably could not afford through conventional travel agendas. By eliminating the soaring cost of accommodations and eating out, housesitting is a viable alternative to boomers eager to travel while also helping out their fellow homeowners.
