Stumbled upon this sub and just love this community. I always love seeing your geese!
Hey, so there’s been this limping goose at my college. I just noticed him today. it an injury? Is it a condition? Is it an illness? Is it a sign of it dying? Will he survive and recover or die? What can I do to help? I’m not sure whether to leave him and wait for him to recover (if he does) or try and get in contact with a bird rescue person. Any feedback would help. Seeing him limp and not being able to catch up with the flock breaks my heart 💔
Yesterday morning I noticed a bunch of his primary feathers, whole, on the ground. At first I starting freaking put thi king somehow so.ething got to him again..which would be nearly impossible with him being in the coop all night inside an absolute fortress of a run..lol but he lost all these feathers this morning! He's FINALLY shedding those damaged and ripped feathers from when he was attacked a few months ago. I CANNOT wait for him to grow in his beautiful healthy feathers and be able to fly again :'))) I'm just so excited he's gonna look like a whole new goose soon and wanted to just share the good news :3 ❤️❤️🥹 I'll be upping his protein to help with the molt and add a little extra vitamins to compensate all the hard work he's putting into this molt! I'm so proud of him 😭🙏 he's doin a great job. Can't wait until he's fully feathered out again and we can finally go on our daily flying runs again 🥹❤️❤️ hurray!
My aunt has gone into assisted living so I’ve been taking care of them the past 6 months. She was cognitively declining and was feeding them iceberg lettuce and dry dog food. After doing some research I now make them a “salad” every day with romaine lettuce and other veggies, oats and sometimes fruit or corn and boy are they appreciative!! 💕 Here is a video of me surprising them by coming in the back way instead of the front. I love how they wiggle and honk! Hard to believe these guys are 15 years old!
He is all about his snow fort
Saw this baby sitting all alone looking sad. Is he hurt? Left behind by the group? Something else? It’s a very exposed area so there can’t be a nest nearby.
What should I do? If it helps this is in Cambridge Massachusetts.
That’s the entire posse today.
I love how Justin the Canada goose has no idea she’s the odd one out here. She’s always hanging out with the same band of 3-4 youngish greylags, so I’m guessing she must have been an accidentally adopted gosling or maybe even a stray egg in the wrong nest last spring. Seeing how she’s been one of the core members of the group all year, I’m curious to see whether she’ll end up mating up with one of the greylags this spring. It would be really cool to have some baby Murphys join the gang.
I’ve also created a new instagram account for my silly little guys, it’s @sicklildoodz if you’re interested :)
His honks are so cute and funny sounding i love him sm
Hello! I have a Canadian goose that I feed a few times per week. I came home one night and it was close to dusk, I gave him a little of feed, then he ate it and went into the lake. It looked like he was sleeping alone instead of being with the flock. Is this normal? Also to note, he has issues walking but he can fly fine. Thanks!!
I just wanted some silly gooses..
She has access to clean water she just likes digging holes
Hey! So, I have a flock of 5 females and 1 male. I've noticed that one female is the alpha, and she consistently mounts the other females, while the male just watches. I did see the male mount her and two others, but it's mostly the alpha female who mounts the others and shows her dominance. I have to say, though, the male is very gentle.
I also have ducks, and sometimes I’ve seen the male goose mount one of them, who is now limping. I’ve started collecting the eggs for incubation, and I plan to try next week. However, I'm worried the eggs might not be fertile since I don’t often see the male mounting the females. With the 5-to-1 ratio, do you think it would be a good idea to add another male goose, or will they fight?
Hi everyone! Just a quick question. It has been 2 months since I last saw my geese, Pepe from my previous post. He always love to sit on my lap when he still has his dawn feather and nib on me.
Today I met him again, I think he is around 7 months already. We recently adopted another paired goose (which I never met). When he saw me, he ran towards me and he was vibrating. He circled me for a few time, went up my lap and starts nibbing at me. The other 2 then start ed coming at me with their neck extanding, honking (prolly cause i was a stranger). Pepe then started hissing and bited them and shoos them away.
He then went up on my lap and started vibrating again. I read somewhere it means they are angry?? but he never hissed at me. He only hissed when the cats/dog come around him. He also never vibrate with other family in the house. Does he hate me or what haha
I need help- my male goose does this weird thing with his neck from time to time, it started about a week ago and I haven’t introduced any new feed or snacks to his diet. I’ve already taken him to the veterinarian, however they say they can’t figure it out. I’m worried, I love my geese and need him to be okay… hope someone here can give me insight. They are between 10 and 12 years old.
This goose has been hanging on the pond outside my apartment. I have seen it try to fly and it cannot. I imagine after the cold streak here in Michigan its wing or feathers somehow got frozen. I have been feeding it but am wondering will this remedy itself or should I call a wildlife rehab? Thanks in advance.
