We have a 3/4 acre swimming pond dug 3 years ago (in NYS). In past years we’ve had Canada geese stop over for a few days and move on. This spring we have a couple that seem to be settling in. We wouldn’t mind 2 geese as summer residents but really don’t want a bunch of them to move in and crap all over and be a problem. Should we try to get rid to these two now or am I worried for nothing? Will their young think this is summer home and come back? Any advice appreciated.
We have contractors repairing a concrete retaining wall on the lake, so this family walks thru on the days when the contractors aren't around. I got lucky today - NO contractors. I'm gonna miss seeing them all together ❤️ Ski Island, OKC OK
My Toulouse goslings are a 10 days old. They grow so fast!!
😛
On the second day of their life, these parents left the kids alone in the pond so they could go kick some other gooses’ ass. The little goofballs got so scared that they started diving underwater until their parents came back. Now two weeks later they all do it constantly. Never gets old.
Hi everyone,
We have a goose family around the apartment complex where we live. Most of the day, the female goose is around her nest. The male, whom we named “Ozmie,” is usually pretty aggressive and does not allow us to feed him. We got lucky several times and were able to feed him some seeds.
Today, we saw him lying on the ground with his neck down close to the road, which is something we’ve never seen him do before. We got close to him and fed him. Then, he was able to get up, move around, and he pooped several times (no diarrhea). But afterward, he was still lying around with his neck down. See photo.
We didn’t see any noticeable injuries or open wounds, but he was limping a little.
What do you guys suggest we do? We called emergency vets, but they said they cannot take him. They also weren’t sure how we can catch him.
Thanks!!
Excuse me but what the heck is this. Is it a gosling or a duckling? My future ex-wife and I are having our first argument (she’s thinks it’s a duckling).
My geese are three weeks old at this point, and the chick was hatched 2 days ago. We introduced them yesterday and they're slowly imprinting on each other. Hopefully, we'll get more chicks to join our little bantam. But for now, it's just these three.
A mother goose has been incubating her eggs around my apartment for quite some time. I noticed her and her partner with only 1 gosling in tow on the lake. However, when I walked over to the nest, they quickly approached and hissed. This was yesterday. By the end of the day, she was back on the nest.
Today, a full 24 hours later, I saw the couple with their 1 gosling back with their flock and well away from the nest. I checked the nest, and I see at least 1 egg still in there.
I know birds will leave bad eggs, but I also know they will leave potentially good eggs if the other hatchlings are off to the races and the other eggs don’t hatch quickly enough. Is there any chance she’ll come back for this egg? Is there a chance that it could be saved if I take it and find someone to incubate it?

Hi Guys, back with another question . In my local park we have a new resident who seems young, last Friday they were hanging out with a visiting bigger pair - today, they were hanging out with the male of this bigger pair (who my question relates to)
This male, is very heavily built and tall - I would say unusually so - I was very surprised when he came on land today as I didn't notice this in the water. He also struggles to vocalise certain calls (seen in first video clip where he attempts to respond to aggressive residents).
I wondered if his unusual size(for where i am), and vocal struggles are because he was quite old? Also is there any way to spot particularly older geese.
I don't know much about Geese except what I see every day out the window of my office at home. I love them. And how they interact with all the other birds in and out of our lake. But today I looked up and there were fuzzy babies!! Please, if you have the volume up, excuse my animal voice. I'm 44 years old and still can't help myself.
