What sort of content are we looking for?
Discussion: The main focus of this subreddit is industry discussion. Whether you have a one off question about the pitching process or are looking for feedback on your latest review, this is the place for you!
Self-promotion: Part of the appeal of this subreddit is the opportunity to discover new sites and new writers. Consequently, we allow self-promotion as long as you don't overdo it. Recruiting calls are also allowed, but if your site doesn't offer compensation, you will be dragged by the community. Promoting a specific game or developer, however, is not allowed.
Criticism: Games journalism is not without its issues and we welcome frank discussion of its many problematic aspects. However, in order to allow for a nuanced discussion of these concerns, we do not tolerate the sort of sweeping accusations and conspiracy theories GG supporters like to throw around.
Recomended Subreddits:
/r/gamernews - One of several Gaming News and Discussion subreddits
r/gamingnews - Another gaming news and discussion subreddit
r/gamereviews - Gaming Reviews
r/Games - in depth, general discussions of games, without the memes and image links prevalent in r/gaming.
r/truegaming - a place for more in-depth discussions about games, gameplay, and the community around it.

Hey everyone! I'm a freelance writer for the website Cultured Vultures, specializing in the strategy genre. I'm currently looking for full-time work in video game journalism and would love to connect, talk, and chat with other writers about the industry and journalism in general. Is there a Discord server or a place to get together and share experiences?
Hello all!
So Im working as an intern for a site called DBLTAP, and i've been tasked with a longer project that i finish my internship with. It has to include interviews and i've found a few devs i feel would be a great asset to my article. Since its centered around horror, i found a few smaller indie devs (and not so small ones), but i'm a bit anxious to reach out. Do i just ask bluntly or do i have to do anything special.
Sorry if this is super obvious, 'im just really nervous about reaching out. Thanks!!
The original LEGO Star Wars game for the Nintendo DS began my love for gaming.
So naturally, I used my job as an excuse to play Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga for several days 🙂
Please check it out and share with your friends if you enjoyed! 🙏🏼
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review (PS5) - Limited Power
Hello all!
Currently i'm finishing up my bachelors in multimedia journalism, and i'm currently interning as a staff writer at DBLTAP gaming, and have around thirty short articles written for them under my belt, and should have around a hundred by the time i'm finished. I also have a small Wordpress site that i used to hone my writing a bit, and i write primarily game centered stuff for my school newspaper.
I was curious what steps i should take to progress further in the industry. currently i live in San Diego, and cost of living is high, so i'm doing my absolute best to find a job as soon as i can. I've been talking to my editor and there is a possibility for them taking me on as a part time writer after i finish my stint there, as i enjoy the job alot, and am decently good at it.
In terms of what i'm hoping i wanted to lean towards being a reviewer, though I'm open to basically everything to keep the lights on. Should i focus on freelance work or should i aim to get a staff position on some site? I don't know any game journalists except my editors, so i thought i'd ask a few questions on Reddit.
Thanks in advance!
I submitted my sample work. Any clue when they usually reply back? They said if it was good they would train me.
I've been looking into getting into games journalism. and TheGamer and CBR both seem like good sites since they host the kind of content I'd like to put out, namely about D&D.
However. I've been wondering if these places are good to work at, and what their starting pay is. From what I;ve seen about CBR, the base pay is little, however it seems to fluctuate person to person, from 2.5 cents per word to 0.02 cents per word, and TheGamer has only one point of information I've found, 0.03 cents per word.
has anyone here worked for these places before?
He did a lot of gaming journalism and longform analysis videos, at least back in the day. But now his content has slowed to a crawl. He has only uploaded 7 videos for 2021 and they are of lesser quality compared to his work from the past 5-7 years. He has not updated his Patreon since late 2019-early 2020, his upload frequency is a lot less consistent, he has clearly lost a lot of his passion and drive for the subject matter he used to love, in fact, he seems to have a lot of contempt with the gaming industry (and modern society as a whole).
The views for his recent videos are very low compared to his subscriber account. He only hits just over 10% of subs in views per video when 2-3 years ago he's been hitting 4-5 times that much views, so sub to views ratio was insane back then. I used to enjoy his old videos, but he's become less interesting and it looks like his videos aren't doing too well.
I've listened to some of his recent podcast episodes, and it's clear he no longer enjoys what he's been doing for years. This podcast episode throughout (especially at 1:34:15) is really telling.

Im not gonna lie, i wrote a bad review about darkest dungeon, (although i did give it a positive one) and its not great. i fully amit i didn't go deep enough into the games combat, or story.
I've been trying to write in a more streamlined way and i guess i cut out a bit too much. I posted it here on reddit and it got torn apart. Im not gonna lie i cant handle criticism well and i take everything personally. Now i kinda want to stop writing for a bit over like three people on reddit. If anyone has advice on getting over it and pushing through i'd love to hear it. Thanks!
I'd love to get this community in a space where it's easy to talk shop and trade ideas. Is there a discord for us yet?
