1993 Ford Explorer Crank No start (1997 EXP PCM)

Hello, I wanted to ask why my explorer is not starting. It is a 1993 Ford Explorer eddie bauer 4.3 OHV. I have a 4.0L supercharger with 5.0 injectors and its bored out to 4.3L with a stroker cam kit. I bought it used and the owner doesnt know what happened to it. It had apparently been running until he left it under a cover and after about a year he decided to sell it.

It cranks but does not start. I have confirmed fuel pump performance (after replacing it) with good pressure to the fuel regulator (60psi) and to the fuel rail. It has a completely custom aeromotive fuel system. Pump all the way to the regulator is made by aeromotive with redhorse performance hoses and A/N fittings. I have also confirmed spark. It still does not start. I have tried starter fluid and that was when it bucked a little bit, started and was extremely rough. It "ran" on its own, like ****, for maybe 10 seconds and shut off. I do not know what to do.

For more details, it has a 1997 PCM because the original owner wanted to swap to OBD2 I am assuming so he could more easily have it tuned to run to spec. I have tried a scanner to no avail. I confirmed that the port is receiving power and has solid ground by testing pin 4,5 and 16.

Wouldn’t mind so much if only it was easily accessible

Painting my frame

I have been working on getting the frame on my 97 down to bare metal so I can coat it. I was wondering what would be the best paint to coat it with. For reference I'm taking off everything that is touching the frame before hand so I can get everywhere. Looks kinda like this right now, any tips or tricks for this would be appreciated. I am also planning on taking the cab off as well but I am just one guy with an engine hoist, not sure on the difficulty level of that.

Just hit 221,000 miles in my truck.

1997 4.0 XLT, 4WD, 5-speed. I looked for this bad boy for a long time and I’m glad I waited.

In the few months I’ve had it I’ve done a full tune-up, new slave cylinder, complete suspension upgrade, new spindles, and too much other stuff to list.

Cosmetically it ain’t the prettiest but I dig this little truck

Biggest tires I can fit on my stock 2000 xlt 3.0 v6 2wd?

Wondering how big my tires can be on my stock 2000 ranger 2wd. I’ve heard the 2wd sits a bit lower than 4x4’s. Anyone have any recommendations or and idea of how big I can without causing rubbing issues?

Help Identify Power Steering component (2004, 3L)

Can anyone identify this part? It came off the rack and pinion, runs from one side to the other and goes into each bellow. I can’t seem to find any like it online. This one simply slides into a fitting on the bellows and does not have a fastener, this is where it differs from what I’m seeing online. It appears to be a “Rack and Pinion Hydraulic Transfer Tube” but does not match up to others in online diagrams.

Any advice helps, need to get this sucker back on the road.

Please help me fix my cruise control!

Cruise Control Problems

Hello, first post here just hoping someone can help me out. I have a 1996 with the 3.0 automatic, has factory cruise control. Bought the truck a year ago and the cruise control worked then the buttons went out so I replaced them and it worked perfectly… for about 2 months. Recently I have replaced the ABS module, master cylinder pressure switch, brake switch, throttle sensor, vehicle speed sensor, and the buttons again. All of this to no avail, so I ask with all of these common problems already replaced what should I check next? Is having cruise control really worth possibly replacing the $300 actuator??

  • Thanks, Gavin

2.9 5-Speed transmission

Anyone know a source on a rebuilt 5-speed for a 1990? Pretty sure it's the Mazda version. Front bearings are going and I'm thinking it might be cost effective to just get a rebuilt rather than pulling the whole unit apart. Thanks in advance.

Battery issue

2021 Ford Ranger upfront

Started getting an alert on my Ford Pass App that my remote services were being disabled to preserve the battery. I've driven it around and tried to charge it up, and it helped sometimes. The auto start/stop and power windows stopped working. I changed the battery out yesterday thinking that would fix it, and I'm still getting the same things. Even checked that software was up to date.

Took it over my BiL to scan it and he was getting no codes that were showing up. I'm going to keep with some longer commutes and keep researching. Has anyone had any similar issues?

4x4 swap to build the unicorn ranger?

So I have a 2wd 2.3 from 96 and I love it. The only thing I need is better handling in the snow. I would love 4x4 but love the small engine. I know they used to make the 2.3 4x4 but they're incredibly hard to find near me. Would it make sense for me to 4x4 swap if I ever need to do the front end? Or is the fuel economy not too much worse on the bigger motors and I am barking up a tree I will regret?

Clutch quick connector issues

So I got a flat bed ford ranger. 5 speed manual 2009. I was driving home from my friends house and right outside my front door my clutch pedal went rock hard. Wasn't sure what it was and pushed it in anyways... Blew up the seal in the quick connector. Shop says I may have to replace the entire slave cylinder now because of this stupid mistake.

Is that true or can I just replace the quick connector somehow? At the end of the day it's just a hydraulic connection isn't it? Shouldn't any other ford clutch connector fit on my slave cylinder? I don't see how the connector would be specific to one single cylinder. As long as the tolerances are machined well it should just plug in???

The current slave cylinder quick connect is one of the clip style ones rather than the old hook style one they had before. Not sure if that matters either. Don't have any pictures unfortunately.

2019 - 2022 Used Rangers, what to look for?

Hi all, I'm in the market for a '19 - '22 Ranger and am wondering if there are any known issues to look out for. This seems like a fairly reliable generation and I wanted to get the community's input.

Cheers!

**EDIT** Are the years functionally identical, or were there improvements/issues w/ different years within the generation?

Decided to pick up a camper shell

Picked up a sweet aluminum contractor style camper shell. I figured it would fit the work truck style well, plus it will be handy in the winter here in Michigan. In the past I've camped in them as well. So, I may use it for that as well!

Need Help Deciding on a Flowmaster Muffler!

My Ranger is a 2003 with a 3.0L V6. I plan on keeping the catalytic converters for emissions (I live in California). The diameter of the exhaust is 2 inch I think. I know the 3.0 won’t sound amazing but can you guys recommend me some mufflers for my truck? Preferably a flow master too. Thanks!

Which were the original wheels for the 95 STX?

Hi all, I was wondering which are the wheels that came with the 95 4.0 4x2 STX. Most of the original wheels that I've seen are 14' like this:

https://preview.redd.it/y95qmxzpgw1e1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=803a6419e7cc1e5478004dbd64849f665e013840

But I've seen in a few places that the 95 shared the 15' wheels with the Explorer:

I currently have these ones on my Ranger, but I was wondering which are the factory standard for the STX trim. Thanks!

Driveshaft carrier bearing question

How do I know which carrier bearing I need?

Rockauto has quite a few different sizes. Autozone does too even though the website says they all fit.

My truck is a 96 3.0 5 speed 2wd. It's titled as a mazda, but the vin was swapped. I have no idea what the original vin is though. The sticker was pulled off too. If someone knows where another vin might be that would be great info to have as well.

Car shaking advice

A week ago I got the automatic 2L diesel 2021 ranger with about 25000 miles on it. I immediately took it on a 1000 mile road trip and it drove great but after arriving home it’s starting shaking like crazy whenever I’m accelerating.

This is not a small amount of shaking either, and continues whenever I’m between 20 and 70 mph. It’s becomes more tolerable when shifting down to “S” but it’s still a lot of shaking/shuddering

Any advice?

Update - I’ve just taken it for another drive and it refused to automatically change out of first gear. I could manually shift into second and third but otherwise it just stopped accelerating at 10mph
