Figured id post on here to see if anyone has any ideas A while back i went on about a 3 hour drive to pick up a dirtbike, on the way home we pulled into a gas station and i noticed as the road noises quieted that it was making a really loud ticking sound. From what ive researched its supposedly the 4.0l sohc death rattle, but its not got any codes on the scanner or any lights on the dash. Some people have said its an exaust leak, which i highly doubt an exaust leak is this loud, had others say that it might just be really bad lifter tick. It is really loud at cold start and quiets down as it warms up, and it does increase in speed with rpms. Videos from beginning of last summer, and it ran all the way home just fine (about 40 mins from when i noticed it), didnt see any oil burning or any major leaks, oil level seemed to be fine but was warm when i checked. Started the engine a couple times since then to show mechanics, and still makes the noise, but doesnt have any issues starting.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks!
Edit: 2002 ranger 4.0l
I want to swap the grille or the 2002 ranger with a 2004 grille, I know I need a new hood and mounts but has anyone tried this?
Ex Indot truck needed a computer and fuel pump. Now to get the body back in shape.

Sorry if this has already been asked but I have a ‘98 3.0 V6 manual ranger and I’ve put 2 different idle air control valves in following all the proper steps that I saw online from different videos with no luck. Took it to a (very trusted) mechanic and they had it for 2 weeks and then said they couldn’t get an IAC in that they would be happy installing and that it was a common problem with these rangers. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems and had a fix? Thank you in advance
The time has come to rebuild my 2.3 (metal in the sump) I’m not a complete schmuck when it comes to mechanics but I’ve never pulled/rebuilt an engine and the truck means a lot to me and I’m willing to learn and do what needs done.
I have en engine stand and hoist and plenty of tools to do the job, but what should I look out for? I’m looking for any advice, I do have the 1996 Aerostar,Ranger, and explorer shop manual on the way.
What should I upgrade if need be? Are there any decently good rebuild kits available?
I’m not asking on how to do it but more or less asking for guidance, tips, and or tricks on this endeavor.
I am not seeing any options for front seats with a headrest as I would like to hang a headrest storage bag on the back of it for some EDC stuff. Anyone have any leads on anything?
Yesterday I went to start my truck and turn out of my work’s parking lot. Noticed a distinct lack of familiar turn signal blink blonk blink blonk. Looked down at my dash and the turn signal indicator is just…on. Not flashing. I try the other side. Same thing. Manage to make it home without pissing anyone off or getting pulled over.
Checking the truck while it’s stationary and the left turn signal is engaged, the front bulb illuminates and stays on, but the back bulb does nothing. Same with the other side. Didn’t think the check the hazards at the time.
So I’m googling all kinds of stuff this morning and go out to test it again to find a solution but lo and behold…my signals are working just fine! All bulbs working perfectly, and blink blonking with the best of ‘em. I’m gonna drive it today and see if anything weird happens again.
In the meantime…any ideas as to why they would not work last night and then, after doing absolutely nothing and going nowhere, they work again this morning?
Hey all,
I am looking for a detailed labeled photo of a 2007 3.0 ranger engine bay. I have recently come across a leak coming from the engine, and I have narrowed it down to this black box (i believe) in the back left of the engine bay Infront of the passenger seat. The labeled photo in the manual and all photos online do not detail what this specific part is called.
I have ran my finger through the leak on the driveway and it does not have a scent to it, so my automatic assumption is that it is just water, however I am uncertain and what is causing it is unknown and i am trying to figure it out on my own before getting a mechanic involved.
All help is greatly appreciated!
Ford ranger wildtrak t6 2015. Just randomly started and i have no clue how to fix it or what the issue is. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks
Anyone have an idea of what’s up with my ranger? A couple weeks ago i removed the brain module to my viper alarm as it wouldn’t unlock, my truck now will not start some days, it didn’t happen right away but I’m wondering if its killing my battery? I also replaced it with a new one but it keeps doing the same.
It does turn over but doesn’t start. When it does start it starts on the first try. When it doesn’t turn on i usually connect a battery starter to the battery and it turns on right away, except for this morning it didn’t. My new battery is reading at 12.6 volts
Alarm did have keyless entry/ kill switch
115,000 Miles and still running like a champ
Looking into buying a new pump for my 03 xlt (3.0) is there any pumps yall would recommend. Seeing a lot of ones with bad reviews not sure what to get
I was curious if anyone is familiar with the TORCH 3" Front 2" Rear Full Leveling Lift Kit? If so any pros/ cons. Alternatives if you don’t like it.
I know a lot of people recommend checking out rough country but their page says they don’t have anything for my truck. 2011 2WD Sport.
