At 26:20 in this video he plays something that he mistakes as white lace regretfully. Is there a full release of this somewhere? Is it a cover? It's very pretty
Do you guys
I never see anyone talk about Helplessness blues across music forums or fleet foxes discussion posts. It is my all time favorite album and is also one that i hold deep personal connections to. Is it a popular opinion that it is their best?
Sadly i am unable to attend anymore. I have two tickets to GA. Please DM if you're interested! I am in canada, so we need to use paypal to facilitate the transfer
Message me with an offer if interested! I can provide screenshots/screen recording- even willing to hop on the phone if necessary.
Hey hey!
I’m a huge fan of FF and I was just announced that I have a work trip I have to go on Nov 18th. 😭 Unfortunately, can’t make it to Robins show that day. There is another concert a day before, on the 17th, if someone goes and wants to exchange dates with me I’ll be grateful forever!
Thank you and fingers crossed 🙏❤️
This week we'll be looking at another cover, from last year at the Hollywood Bowl. It's "Expecting to Fly", which is a cover of a Buffalo Springfield song. Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) joins the gang on this song as well.
Were any of you able to go to this concert last year? How do we feel about this cover? I know some folks really love the covers FF puts out and others? Maybe not as much! Who out there is familiar with the original song? Let's discuss!
Need tickets to Portland and wondering if there is a ticket thread? Didn't see one.
Edit: since this is the pinned thread. Use CashOrTrade.org when dealing with internet strangers. If the show isn't listed, request the show to be listed and they will do it fairly quickly. Protects both buyer and seller, minimal fee for the buyer. Seller sells ticket at face value (out the door price from original ticket vender i.e. AXS, Ticketmaster, etc not Stubhub and the like).
This week we have another one of those fun little collaborations: This time, it's the song they did with Big Red Machine
!
I'll post it on the off chance you haven't heard it (yet), but let's discuss! How do we feel about this collab? I recall it being pretty popular upon release and it definitely got blabbed about quite a bit in our Discord back on release. Were any of you familiar with Big Red Machine or Anaïs Mitchell prior to this collaboration?
Let's hear your thoughts!
From early 2000s to now. I wanna say it used to be raspier, do you think that as he evolved as a vocalist the raspiness went away or he intentionally changed his singing style a bit? His voice sounds smoother and higher pitched? Not sure if those are proper singing terms.
I've been listening to FF nonstop for a few months now and all the lyrics are so intriguing to me. Finally gonna get a peek into the mind of the writer! What a cool thing to exist
i saw my robin ticket has a add ons screen and i haven’t added any add ons should i be hyped or normal
This week's song discussion will revolve around "Montezuma" which can be found on 2011's Helplessness Blues.
Do you feel it fits in with the rest of the songs on the album? Does it hold any special meaning or significance to you?
I've been watching a lot of FF live shows on YT. Adds a whole new layer to the music for me. I think it's because I'm yearning to catch them live some day (I know they won't play until new music again). Anyways, I'm enjoying catching these live moments like Sky watching and smiling at Robin as he sings a high note from On Another Ocean. Anyone else have favorite live moments like this?
Which tracks are good to run in a straight order without breaking for tuning? Would be playing in standard tuning for most, running a lil cover session next weekend.
Penniless and tired with your hair grown long
I was looking at you there and your face looked wrong
Memory is a fickle siren song
I didn't understand
In the gentle light as the morning nears
You don't say a single word of the last two years
Where you were or when you reached the frontier
I didn't understand, no
See your rugged hands and a silver knife
20 dollars in your hand that you hold so tight
All the evidence of your vacant life
My brother, you were gone
And you will try to do what you did before
Pull the wool over your eyes for a week or more
Let your family take you back to your
Original mind
There's nothing I can do
There's nothing I can do
There's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can say
I can say
I have a question about the lyrics to On Another ocean (January/june). Are there official lyrics to this song? I’m talking about specifically the lyrics after “turn any eye into an ivy (iv?) and I won’t bleed out if you know me” the lyrics that follow some lyrics sites describe as “Allajjliiiineeed oh don't deny me” (genius lyrics) or “all that I need, oh don’t deny me” (google lyrics) but I always heard “oh my needle don’t deny me” and took the lyrics as “turn any I into an IV, and I won’t bleed out if you know me, oh my needle don’t deny me…” maybe that’s super silly of me, I’m just curious if any official lyrics were ever released for this song? Because my man can be hard to understand sometimes
Hey everyone, I can't go on this date in the end and am looking to sell at face value. PM if interested
I heard “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel and I have never heard such a close vibe to what Fleet Foxes does. Has this comparison been discussed before or am I reaching based on my subjective listening? Both are great artists none the less. For example “Featherweight” comes to mind for a comparable vibe or even “Your Protector”
To preface, Third of May is easily my favorite Fleet Foxes Song. I couldn't stop listening to the official version for months & it never got old, the song is just THAT GOOD.
However, I stumbled upon the Electric Lady version on Youtube, & upon listening to it, my ears were blown away (Literally, I had it on 100 the whole time.)
I found it to have much better quality vocals & the overall instrumental was much cleaner & more heartfelt imo. Am I the only one?
I picked up there self titled earlier this year and i fucking love it, since then i have listened to shore and helplessness blues and i cant find that same attachment, the self titled i just love everysong and every chord i cant find the same love in the others
This week we'll be discussing one of those fun little covers that pops up (if you're lucky) at various concerts that Fleet Foxes has done throughout the years. This song has been done a few times ('23) but the version we're talking about today is the one from 6/21 of this year that features Tim Bernardes doing his thing. It has some ethereal vibes going on and I thought it might be fun to talk about (or, conversely, if you were not lucky enough to be at this show and hadn't heard it before, you get to discover it today. ;) ). There is also another version that features Bonny Light Horseman (phenomenal little group for those who haven't heard them before) that ran the day after (6/22). And again, yet another version in which Robin's dad is featured. They're all pretty great, but I went with the recording that had the best (at present) sound quality + absence of background noise/talking/etc.
I have to admit, I'm a bit envious of those of you who were present at this show. You got a real treat with this cover.
Anyway, let's discuss! Feel free to discuss any version of this cover you choose, particularly for you lucky folks who were actually at any of these shows. :)
I have two standing room tickets for Friday night. Unfortunately cannot make it, please PM me if interested. Thank you!
