I got a carb rebuild kit and velocity stacks from TJ brutal customs. Carb is clean, jets brand new. Needle has two shims. Everything is installed correctly.
The bike fires up immediately now, which it’s never done before. It idles great, and will even run with a good amount of throttle. But, after about 1 minute of anything above 1/4 throttle, the bike dies while I’m riding it. I’ve make sure I have not vacuum leaks, plenty of gas, A/F screw is at 2 1/2 turns out.
I know I will have to take some time to tune to get it to run properly, but this feels like a bigger issue than just turning my A/F screw to the proper mix.
Any ideas? Things I’m overlooking?
just recently bought a 2004 yamaha r6 with an issue, when i rev really high like 8-10k black smoke will come out of exhaust as well as when inside hard. and black soot has built up around the edge of exhaust, idle is bouncing or jittery, sometimes idle will go all the way down to nearly 0 after rev when in neutral but won’t shut off, smells strongly of fuel and i’ve only been getting about 60 miles on a full tank until gas light comes on i’ve gotten a brand new k&n high performance air filter, old owner put new fuel injectors and injector seals, new fuel pump, new spark plugs, yoshimura slip on exhaust. i know for a fact it’s running rich but i don’t know why that is. old owner also said that he never got it tuned when he put the aftermarket exhaust on and that it could possibly be that. it also shoots flames and idk if that should be happening
Hello all, my 01 r6 just recently acquired a very annoying and strange electrical issue and after trying to fix it on my own for a few days, I'm officially stumped and looking for advice. A few weeks ago I noticed my battery had stopped charging but otherwise everything else still ran great, and when I tested the stator with a multimeter I confirmed that it was the culprit. I swapped in a new stator and rectifier, but when I turned the ignition for the first time after the swap, the only thing that came on was the gauge cluster, in addition to the fuel pump relay clicking once. No lights or indicators, no horn, kill switch didn't turn on the fuel pump, start button did nothing. The fuel light is blinking which apparently means the sensor cant be detected, and the high beam indicator is on even though the headlights aren't and the highbeam switch does nothing. I can't imagine simply swapping the stator could have messed up so much, so I figure either I might have screwed something else up during the swap or whatever went wrong was just a poorly timed coincidence. The battery is brand new, 13.2 volts, and I swapped in another battery just to be sure and same issue. I visually checked all the plugs inside the bike under the tank and all the plugs up by the handlebars, no problems. I confirmed continuity and proper voltage in the ignition switch, all fuses have 13 volts, there's voltage in the starter relay, and interestingly enough there's 13 volts all the way to the rear light connector near the back of the bike. Now I'm no electrician but I have no clue how there could be voltage all the way there yet the light doesn't turn on. I'll keep troubleshooting via the manual over the next couple days, and any help here is greatly appreciated!
The bike has been sitting for 3 years. Knew it would need to have the carb cleaned before it ran again. Didn't expect it to be so gummed up. Question for the people that have the wisdom, would you open up the mid body or is that unnecessary? I'm assuming it is but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.
Hi all, I have a 1996 Yamaha TDM 850 4tx. Not long had it and not had a Yamaha before so hoping someone can point me in where to look first...
When in gear, with kickstand up and clutch pulled in the bike will not start. Will start without issue in Neutral.
Obviously this is not an issue for normal starting however it is a bit of a faff if ever I were to stall the bike so would like to get it sorted.
Thanks
Hello everyone, I just acquired a 200 Suzuki Intruder that's been sitting in a garage for the last 10 years and I would like to get it up and running again. I've gotten the bike to the point of starting and idling well, but whenever I get on the bike and shift into first gear to start riding, it lurches forward just a bit and dies. After some research it seems like it is likely that the clutch hose either has bad pressure, or it has a leak somewhere.
In either case, I think it might be best to replace the clutch hose since it is pretty old and rusted. I'm not the most experienced when it comes to working on motorcycles. Is this something that I could feasibly do in my garage? Or would I be better of finding a shop to do it for me?
Thanks in advance.
I can't see any snap rings or seegers, does not unscrew. It just spins
So basically when I want to start it, the dash lights up then when I click ignition it turns of. Afterwards I put it off the stand and the dash lights sometimes back on and start or I need to put it back on the stand and then it lights up to finally start. It also sometimes just doesn't want to start so I use the kick starter to turn it on. I'm thinking it's the startmotor cus that make sense, but can someone help me a bit more. Ps I apologize for my lack of English here
Hi, I'm looking for the press fit brass needle valve seat for a 2007 Yamaha YZ250F. I'm not sure that anyone stocks this part since it is a press fit and I can't find it anywhere, but I'm also not great at looking for parts. Any help is appreciated!
just recently bought a 2004 yamaha r6 with an issue, when i rev really high like 8-10k black smoke will come out of exhaust and black soot has built up around the edge of exhaust, exhaust also shoots flames. idle is bouncing back and forth not majorly but enough to notice and bug you, sometimes idle will go all the way down to nearly 0 when coming to a stop in neutral but won’t shut off, smells strongly of fuel and i’ve only been getting about 60 miles on a full tank until gas light comes on i’ve gotten a brand new k&n high performance air filter, old owner put new fuel injectors and injector seals, fuel pump, new spark plugs, yoshimura slip on exhaust. i know for a fact it’s running rich but i don’t know why that is. when my buddy was riding behind me and i was doing some pulls he said that black smoke would come out as well and could only smell gas. old owner also said that he never got it tuned when he put the aftermarket exhaust on and that it could possibly be that. does anyone have any clue as to what is wrong or has anyone experienced anything similar to this and what did you do to fix it
Give me your best guesses. This happens in fourth gear only, I can shift in and out of the gear, but no acceleration; only this noise. Sometimes when she’s feeling spicy it’ll slow down instead of coast while in fourth. I can provide more info if needed. Trying to use all my resources before I pull the engine.
The rear signal lights/blinkers do not work on my 1975 Honda XL350. All front lights and rear brake light work fine. The bike has a new 6v battery, new bulbs.
What is this likely issue and how to troubleshoot? I am a novice when it comes to motorcycles. TiA
Question about crankshaft
Hi everyone, 2 months ago i made a post about my aprilia sx that broke down. Since then i had bought many new things for it like a 80cc malossi kit, malossi reed valve 28mm polini carb. Everything is working good right now but i risked and i didint change the crankshaft. Now that winter is coming i am planning on changing it and the bearings. I want something that is durable but also not outragely expensive (max 200€) What kind of crankshaft should i buy. Thanks for answerings.
Hi everyone,
My Ninja's low beam is not switching on. All other lights work even the little parkers. I used to be able to fiddle with the light or tap the assembly to get it to switch on but I suspect the wire has finally snapped internally. I swapped the bulb and that didn't fix the issue. I thought about the relays but the ninja's is a small unserviceable box according to the service manual. Is there a way to fix this myself? A bike shop quoted me 300 to 400 AUD which I can't afford atm. If it helps, I own a solder kit.
Thank you for any advice :)
How’s it going y’all. Does anybody know what gasket this is called or better yet part number? it’s for a 2019 kawasaki zx6r. I bought the bike used and I’m trynna put a slip-on on and noticed this was missing.
So I’ll keep this simple and short, bike runs alright with map sensor and line plugged in (power dip). Bike runs better without (full power).
Recently changed out the throttle cables and installed a new exhaust. Fuel is flowing and the carb is delivering fuel, but I’m unsure if it’s a spark issue or a compression problem.
Is anyone familiar with this engine noise and what it indicates?
As seen in the video. Rear Brake + Right foot pedal (backing plate?) Snapped, and I believe is Aluminium. Fairing cracked/split. Exhaust Burnt tar on.
Never repaired, crashed or broke a bike before so have no idea what parts I'd be looking to order, or if it's safe to ride with the exhaust splattered in leather tar. I know someone likely to be able to fit them on for free, and from what i'm told the parts broken aren't as expensive as i thought. Just generally need to know what parts i actually need, how to/if to remove the tar without damaging the exhaust etc.
Bad crash that I somehow came out without severe injures , had to Ride a decent space home and had unknowingly part of my boot melted into the exhaust pipes.
Hey guys,
I bought this cbr600f4 at an auction and have torn it apart. I cleaned the carbs and added a new fuel filter. Im attempting to put it back together but having issues rerouting the hoses back onto the carbs. Anyways, I was attempting to fire it up to see if she still has life in her and saw the coolant spraying out of the first carb. Is it supposed to come out of the carbs? Im making sure I don’t dump more money into it if it’s unsalvageable.
Any tips and help would be appreciated. Im pretty handy with a wrench so Im trying to get her running.
I inherited my brothers YZF600r last month (rest in power, Ben) and have become obsessively determined to bring it back to life. Maybe partly because I can’t do the same for him. I’ll save that bit for my therapist.
Anyway, So far: The bike sat outside for a while as his health prevented him from riding for the last couple years. First I pulled the carbs and cleaned them, charged the battery, new plugs. Replaced the intake boots cause they were cracked to hell. Cranks strong but won’t fire, even with starting fluid. No spark (visually confirmed with plug out and grounded).
Clutch switch tests good, kill switch interrupts the starter and tests good, kickstand switch tests good. Neutral switch tests good and illuminates the indicator as it should. Jumpered the main switch terminals and it fired up. Great! Synced the carbs and get ready to test ride.. it dies and won’t start again. No spark again. Sometimes I get a weak spark but only one every few seconds. Bypassed the kickstand switch fully and I get strong consistent spark! It even tried to fire up with one plug out! Reinstall the plug and.. no start. Back to no spark condition.
I’ve got proper resistance on both coils primaries and secondaries, plug wire and cap. Voltage to the coils. The pickup coil tests out at 220 ohms (within spec). At this point I suspect either the CDI or the cutoff relay or just a loose/dirty connection somewhere (haven’t found it yet).
Question: Could a failure in the cut off relay cause intermittent loss of spark? I’m getting starter and fuel pump action consistently so that seems to indicate it’s doing.. most of its job?
I went through the testing procedure in the manual and it appears to fail a few of the continuity tests so it seems a pretty likely culprit I just want to make sure that all sounds plausible before I throw more money at it. I did notice some blue corrosion in the relay connector so I will try to clean that out first.
Any other ideas??
I bought this CB350 a couple months ago and have been replacing a whole lot of things on it, mostly awful wiring from the last owner. Among what i replaced was the ignition coils and regulator/rectifier. I took it out on a ride for the first time since i got it (rode and ran well then), got about 30ft out of my driveway and lost all electrical power.
I found a 30 amp fuse that was blown (the main fuse on these is supposed to be 15 amp), replaced it, and got electric power back. Issue is, now the bike has no spark on either cylinder.
Any ideas on what happened? The bike did have a charging issue when i got it, so i replaced the reg/rec, and my only theory is it was bad out of the box and didnt regulate current.
As for spark loss, is there a part more likely to fail with excessive current?
