What are the main reasons people don't take the time to learn first-aid?

I'm curious about the barriers people face when it comes to learning first-aid. Is it a lack of time, resources, interest, or something else entirely? What do you think are the main factors preventing more people from acquiring these essential skills?

I know this is not an injury but I got sexually assaulted

I got sexually assaulted. I can't believe I'm saying this, it's a shock for me too, I've been robbed too but that doesn't matter, I'm scared I could have contracted a life long "sexual" illness, I feel cold at random times, or could it be a symptom of stress, depression, anxiety (I have panic attacks too sometimes)? My "head wasn't okay" before as in a mental state, could it be the side effects of my ill mind or is it serious? I decided to reach out to at least something, I don't want to talk to my doctor about this, because I don't want my doctor to get the police involved. I just need answers...

Which femoral artery has the highest blood pressure?

So if someone were to fall off their bike and accidentally cut their femoral artery would they bleed out quicker from their left leg or their right leg? Asking for a friend.

How long until it’s healed enough to workout?

I do mostly mat workouts like yoga and pop Pilates and want to try cycling but I can’t even imagine doing any of that anytime soon. Any idea how long for it to heal enough to be able to workout again?

My scrape is unbearably painful, how can I get some relief?

I just fell yesterday and scraped my leg up, it hurts like hell and I can’t sleep. I’ve cleaned & disinfected it throughly so I don’t think it’s infected. But it’s a constant sharp stinging that is driving me insane! I was hoping the pain would alleviate by now.

Any suggestions to ease the pain?

Red Cross FAST Certification question

I’m a hunter and was thinking about taking the Red Cross first aid for severe trauma class. Was also going to get a suitable first aid kit with a tourniquet to put in the hunting bag.

Has anyone here taken that class? Would it be beneficial to have the kit before the class? Do they cover clotting agents in that one too?

What else might you recommend?

Thx!

What inspired you to learn first aid, whether online or offline?

I'm curious about what motivated others to learn first aid. Was it a personal experience, a requirement for work, or just a desire to be prepared? Did you take a course online or attend an in-person class? Share your stories and reasons!

What are the biggest challenges you've faced with first aid learning, whether through apps, websites, or physical classes?

Hi Redditors,

I'm designing a first aid app and need your help. I want to understand people's experiences with learning first aid. Please share your thoughts on the following:

  1. What are the biggest challenges you've faced with learning first aid, whether through apps, websites, or physical classes?
  2. What changes would you like to see in first aid learning?
  3. Would you use an app to learn or improve your first aid skills? If so, what features would you find most helpful?

Your feedback will be invaluable in helping me create a useful and effective first aid app.

Thank you for your insights!

Seeking Input for First Aid App Design: Do You Know Basic First Aid and How Confident Are You?

Hi Redditors,

I am conducting user research for an upcoming app design focused on first aid, and I would greatly appreciate your insights and experiences. My goal is to understand the general public's familiarity with basic first aid procedures and the challenges they face when applying this knowledge in real-life situations.

Here are a few questions I'd love to get your input on:

  1. Do you know basic first aid procedures (e.g., CPR, treating wounds, handling burns)?
  2. How confident are you in performing first aid in an emergency situation?
  3. Have you ever had to administer first aid? If so, what challenges did you face?
  4. What resources or features do you think would be most helpful in a first aid app?
  5. Are there any specific scenarios or types of injuries you feel least prepared to handle?

Context: I am in the process of designing an app that aims to provide comprehensive and easy-to-follow first aid instructions. Your feedback will be invaluable in helping me create a tool that effectively supports people in emergency situations.

Thank you all in advance for your time and insights!

Recently cut myself fairly deep at work, now not sure if I’ve got nerve damage or infected.

Kept it clean as much as possible during the healing process and the cut itself has healed very nicely but I still can feel a small sting of pain when i bend the finger fully. It also seems swollen which im worried that pus is trapped under there as its hard to the touch. What do you guys think?

What can I do to further enhance my emergency first aid medical knowledge and training in Ontario after EMR training? I’d like to learn more but can’t take 2 years off work to go to paramedic school. (Kids, mortgage etc). Already volunteering with medical first aid company in GTA now.

Hi all! Can I get some feedback on my Kit?

It's still a work-in-progress as I haven't gotten everything I need so far but I have most of it!

Here's the list:

  • Adhesive bandages (Band-Aids) ((various sizes))
  • Adhesive tape (waterproof)
  • Elastic bandages
  • Aluminum finger splint(s)
  • Antiseptic wipes/towelettes
  • Antiseptic solution/disinfectant (hydrogen peroxide)
  • Disposable non-latex gloves
  • N95/surgical masks
  • Instant cold packs
  • Cotton balls & cotton tipped swabs (Q-tips)
  • Eye pad(s)
  • Sterile eyewash saline
  • Syringe/medicine spoon
  • Bulb suction device/turkey baster
  • Thermometer
  • Safety pins (assorted sizes)
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Needles
  • Duct tape
  • Soap
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Antibiotic ointment (Neosporin)
  • Petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
  • Calamine lotion
  • Hydrocortisone cream
  • Anti-diarrhea medication (Imodium)
  • Anti-nausea medication
  • Laxatives/stool softener
  • Antacids
  • Antihistamine (Benadryl)
  • OTC pain relievers - acetaminophen (Tylenol) & Ibuprofen (Advil)
  • Aspirin
  • Nasal decongestant
  • Orajel
  • Cough drops
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Sun block
  • Extra prescription medication

Any feedback is welcome and would be helpful!

Is this overkill?

One of the items I don't have yet is the first-aid manual - where's the best place to get a practical and thorough manual?

Also I'd love some discussion on efficient storage (this takes up way more space than I'd like!) if anyone has any advice on that front.

First Aid Questionnaire

Afternoon, I am currently working on a research project at University with the aim to gather information on our chosen topic. I have chosen first aid as I have had first hand experience giving and received treatment. The aim of this questionnaire is to gather information from people who have had experiences with first aid in an aim to look at developing some new approaches to the way first aid training is taught. The questionnaire shouldn't take any longer than 2 or 3 minutes. Your help in filling this out is greatly appreciated.
