Is my blister healing properly? I've bandaged it up for 2 days with iodine powder and elastoplast wound spray and it looks a bit weird. should i be concerned about the yellow stuff at the bottom? and what should i do about the dead skin flap?

would like to know

putting cotton pads on scrapes is not recommended since the fibers will stick to the wound, and leaving it uncovered will make it heal slower. which option would be better?

Updating First Aid at Work certificate - what's changed? (UK)

I last did my first aid at work certificate about 4 years ago and due to the backlog caused by covid I've not not been able to update until now. I'm doing the training tomorrow but just to keep abreast, has there been any big changes in the the course content since then?

Hotel scab

I cut my lower back on a metal soap bar holder in a hotel shower about 5 days ago. Does it look infected? The origin might suggest yes 🫠🫠🫠

Infected? Need advice

Hi everyone, so I fell over while walking home from work just over a week ago and scraped my knee. Originally I thought nothing of it when it happened until I got home and realised my jeans were soaked with blood. I cleaned it with saline and have been everyday since, as well as keeping a plaster over it as there seems to be a continuous amount of yellow discharge from the wound. Should I speak to a pharmacy about it or go to my gp? I don't want to feel like I'm wasting their time, especially when I have a lot of other appointments with my health already. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Has anyone seen this happen before? with Pro Heal Band-Aid and/or Silvex

My son scratched himself playing in the park on a wood/plastic corner, ran into it. Anyway I cleaned it with water and then antiseptic foam using sterile gauss packs, then put Neosporin, this Silvex wound gel, and put this fancy Heal Pro gel band aid. When I take off the bandaid the next morning after he slept, there are these crazy worm like formations in the band-aid gel where the band-aid was touching the scrape. I don’t think they are/were alive, but still kinda weird and unsettling when you first see it, the first reaction is it is worms. Anyone seen this and/or understands what happened?

is calling first responsible

In my experiences a phone call to 911 takes 5 minutes or more. (operators usually ask a lot of questions that people may not know the answer to - like street names. Gps coordinates confuse a lot of the operators because weirdly enough they aren't trained to use them. when I have provided gps coordinates to operators they say they cannot use them.) if someone has life threatening bleeding, is it really responsible to call 911 before stopping the bleeding? That is what red cross teaches in their cpr classes. They also recommend asking someone to call 911 (if there is someone around) before starting chest compressions rather than while doing chest compressions.

aed pediatric pads

Since you can use adult aed pads on an infant (you just have to put one on the back and one on the front of the torso), what purpose do the infant pads serve? Adult pads send 150 joules (works for everyone), and infant pads send 50 joules (only works up to 55 lbs person). Do they cause more serious burns the longer you keep them on? Just wondering why its such a concern if it's just like a sunburn. Even though infants have more sensitive skin, is it such a concern in a dire situation? It seems like creating an unnecessary complication - suppose only infant pads are in a kit but the person checking it doesnt realize they are infant sized - or the person using the pads doesn't realize they picked up an infant pads and puts them on an adult which will not be effective. Also since the pads supposedly expire, advised to replace every two years, it seems wasteful. I imagine people fumbling with which pads to use and they get tangled or something. Also just one set of pads is more space in the kit for something else.

Is Yanking a tourniquet necessary

In a red cross video, it shows a person putting a tourniquet onto someone's leg. When pulling the slack out, they don't do it smoothly or carefully but yank it down really hard. Does that serve a purpose? It seems that it would create unnecessary jarring pain to the wounded person.

Watch the video to see what I mean.video

consent for unresponsive adults

I understand that if there is a minor and their guardian is present, you ask the guardian for consent. However, the red cross teaches that you should also do this for an unconscious adult. In other words, if an adult is unconscious, you should ask bystanders (maybe their friend, date, relative, or stranger) for consent. But those people do not have jurisdiction over the unconscious adult's body. So why would you be asking them for consent? Without a power of attorney (like an elderly or person with disability may have), an adult does not have authority over another adult. This is true regardless of how close the other adult is to them. So why spend time asking the other adults present for consent to help the unconscious adult? I clarified with everyone in the class that I was understanding correctly and thats what they said - you have to ask consent from whatever adults are standing around... doesn't make sense to me.

Cut Thumb

Hi guys,
So I have cut my thumb near the nail with a razor and now it has been almost a week and it still hurts a lot and I can t fully bend my finger (only with much pain).

I have not really dealt with it much as I was in a foreign country and the wound was healing nicely, but now I returned home and while the wound is FULLY healed visually, the thumb still hurts - and not in the area where I cut but rather the whole muscle in my thumb. Weirdly 2 days ago the pain was decresing and the mobility of my finger was incresing , but today I woke up (I guess i hit my finger in my sleep or something) and the pain was back double and my mobility fully decreased to day 1. Any ideas what could be the issue? Should I go full rest for my finger or try slightly moving it more and more?
