I started classes in July of this year. However, I did not fill out my fasfa until this past week. I’m eligible for $7k of Pell grant. Will I get paid for the term that started in July or will I only get the January check?
Hi guys,
I’ll be starting nursing school in Jan. I have had no luck, financially in scholarships or financial aid. I’m 26, independent & I currently work as a full time medical assistant, and my annual income is around 20k. The school is pretty expensive, I did get loans but still I wana avoid that as much as possible. I applied for FAFSA last year so 2023-2024 got denied for aid. Idk why, do I make too much? Or was it because I applied for fafsa for a school that I wasnt accepted to yet? Is it open rn for 25-26, should I apply again now and see? I don’t get it. But I still want to try to apply for this upcoming year. I really need to figure out a way to actually be able to get financial aid! What does FAFSA even look at to determine who gets approved for it? Do they look at income? Is there any tips or tricks to get FAFSA? Is there anything I can do to get aid 😭? Please helppp
I’d really appreciate any kind of help! Thank youu!

I'm confused about what Finacial Aid will pay for.
So, I am confused about what kind of funding I can receive. I recently completed the 2025-2026 FASFA and discovered my SAI is 5060. I am also eligible for $2,335.00 in Federal Pell Grants. I will attend Midlands Technical College in South Carolina in Fall 2025. I am also an independent student, which may be necessary for the reader.
I plan to obtain two Associate of Applied Science degrees at Midlands Technical College. I would take the degrees back-to-back, not simultaneously. If you want to ask why I want to do this, well, honestly, I have no idea. That's a lie because I eventually wish to obtain a mechanical engineering degree, but I'm unsure how difficult that would be. I am confident I could get both A.S. degrees, but I still need to decide on a B.S. in ME.
The first degree I will obtain from Midlands Technical College is Machine Tool Technology. It consists of five semesters and 73 Credit Hours, which requires five semesters of full-time enrollment. The second degree I will obtain from Midlands Technical College is in Mechatronics. It consists of five semesters and 60 credit hours. After I subtract the credits/classes that I will have already taken in my first degree, Mechatronics will only take me 50 credit hours, so really only four semesters Taking these courses would help me ease back into a school environment; if I decided not to pursue an ME degree directly after I obtain these two degrees, I would still be able to find solid employment with skilled work.
So, my question is, will I be able to use financial aid to cover the entirety of both of the associate's degrees from Midlands Technical College and pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree or similar degree? Will I have to look into private student loans? Will I have to pay out of my own pocket? Does the 150% rule apply here? What issues may I come across?
I got a Pell Grant, and after doing the math for tuition and my books, I'll have about $300 left over. My school only specifies tuition, books, housing and parking permits, and I can't drive yet, so I don't have anything else to use it for as far as I know.
What do they do with the rest of it? Do they have you give it back? Or I'm wondering if I'd be able to use it to pay for drivers ed, or save it for future tuition outside of community college.

I completed 2 years of community college and I am transferring to a state school in spring 2025 for nursing. My schools financial aid package only gave me $1k in unsubsidized loans. I tried emailing them, asking for an increase in my package and they said due to my fafsa information, they can’t give me more. My parents make too much money for me to qualify for aid, but not enough to help pay for college. I read on the studentaid.gov website that unsubsidized loans are not need based, so I’m not sure why my school is not allowing me to borrow more money. The estimated cost of attendance is $18k per semester, and they’re only giving me $1,000. They told me I can take out parent plus loans or private loans but I don’t want to do that. I am going to try to talk to them in person next week but I’m unsure of what to say since they already told me they can’t give anymore. Any advice?
Hi guys, so I’m struggling with my classes, I have 4 classes but for two of them I’m scared I won’t pass,I will still be above a 2.0gpa but will this affect my financial aid?
So i just submitted my FAFSA as a PA resident, which is one of the prerequisite ls for the PA state grant. I made sure to list the PA school I'm most likely going to, and have already been accepted to, as my number 1 in college order as per their instructions. Now how do I apply? I'm a senior in highschool and it says you need to be a highschool graduate, so does that make me ineligible?
If not, I'm having trouble finding a form/application for PA state grant, so I'll of course ask their support number tommorow for further info, but was just wondering if any other PA people know what to do here. (For context i submitted my FAFSA Sunday, so it should be processed by tomorrow)
I emailed their support at the beginning of this week, and heard nothing back :/ Was wondering if any of you guys know what to do
I want to marry my boyfriend next March/April, since he’s joining the military and we think this is a good next step. I really don’t want to tell my family because they’re very uptight but kindly paying for my school. They pay it through Parent Plus Loans. So my question is, if I get married March 2025, can I still use my dependency status up until then to qualify for enough Parent Plus Loans to get me through May 2026, when I graduate? Doesn’t it account for tax returns from years prior??
Our main thing is we’re getting married 2025 (instead of 2026) because housing is horrible where we are and his contract has him in this area while he does their tech school, which lines up with when I graduate too.. so we want the money and housing ASAP. And by my family is uptight, I literally mean if my grandmother found out I got married before I graduated, she’d stop paying the loans. That would screw my mom (loan taker) over and neither of us can afford that. I couldn’t take them out in my grandmothers name and still can’t, we tried that before any of this. So a sub question, if anyone knows the answer to this, can I still be claimed as a dependent if we file separately on our taxes?
I’m a 19 year old girl and I’m completely on my own. I have a job and work very hard for everything that I have. My rent is due on the first and I’m $500 short. My landlord doesn’t do extensions or exceptions. I don’t have my car right now so I can’t DoorDash or anything like that to make the money. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated beyond measure.
I’m going to have to write a sap appeal for the second time. The sap appeal I wrote was for this current semester because I was assaulted one night and fell into a deep depression. This current appeal I have to write is because of the dorm I was living in was unsafe, toxic, and my stuff was being tempered with by my roommates gf which made me stay home from class up until they gave me a room change. I wasn’t able to recieve a police report from one of the incidents, but I was able to ss my foia request. I’m also submitting a video of the gf breaking into our apartment after being told not to.
Am I fucked?
So, I'm trying to get three different files to get myself maximum aid for college. I have to get a file proving I am/was: ward of the court, in foster care, and have evidence of risk of homelessness
So far besides the foster care verification form, I have a placement agreement document on me that I need to know could be used for evidence of ward of the court. It's signed by my past placement worker and also has my case number on it. It says SOC 156 in the bottom left corner of the page; if type of document is needed for the person reviewing this post.
The last one is a little confusing and im a bit embarassed about it. I was kicked out of my aunts house a year ago, and have no family actively caring for me. I make my own income and rent a room. What type of documents would be best to provide for being at risk of homelessness?
What are different types of USA funding applications open, I can apply for. Suggest some legitimate sources for funding applications in USA.
So Fafsa declared me a independent student, but I am confused about the federal benefits received questions. Since it asks if the student or anyone in their family received any benefits. I haven't received any, but I live with my grandma and she does, do I select the ones that apply to her or do I choose that none apply? Also I am 25.
I dropped out of college back in 2022 without a formal withdrawal, so it just appeared that I was in academic probation. I had a pell grant for the 2021-2022 year and I've read that unearned grants need to be repaid. (UHD)
I never repaid them since I was never aware I had to and obviously it's way past the amount of time I had to repay it. Now I'm terrified. I'm devastated.
I was planning to go back to school, even filled out my FAFSA for 2025-2026. But if I have to repay my financial aid from back in 2022 that dream would be crushed or at least delayed for a long time.
.
I’m contemplating a legal internship out of state but the only thing holding me back is how to cover the cost for housing.
As a law student I know I cant get a federal Pell grant (?) but can I request a loan to cover housing, even though I won’t be enrolled in any classes at my school?
This is his first semester and he has a small UTMA account that has done nothing but lost money. Nonetheless, he doesn't even know the details of this account because I set it up for him. Now I can't call financial aid because its thanksgiving day and everyone is closed.
what is going to come of it does anyone know? I am so worried and will need to wait till monday just wondering.
I know FAFSA would consider me independent, but I'm not sure whether schools would ask for more information, like my parents income. I would likely not be eligible for financial aid if they did. This probably depends on the school specifically, but I thought I'd ask if there was any precedent.
Hey everyone!
I’m a bootcamp grad with a non-CS undergrad degree (in fashion design) and want to pursue an MS in Computer Science. I’ve looked into UIC and Northeastern’s Align program but would love recommendations for schools that are flexible for non-traditional students (online or evening options would be great).
Also, do bootcamp grads usually need to take bridge courses, or can that be skipped sometimes?
I’m in Illinois, so any advice on programs here or financial aid tips (FAFSA, etc.) would be awesome!
Thanks in advance!
I got a check for the spring 2024 semester but I never cashed it because my mom took it away and didnt trust me with it for some reason, Now its fall 2024 semester and got this semesters refund check now I wanted to redeem them both so I can buy myself a car so when I cashed in the spring check recently they deposited to my account but then weeks later they took it out from my account and they sent me a letter about it. I called my bank and my college financial aid office and told me that I was not able to redeem it anymore because that semester ended and they cant do anything about it even tho the paper that they gave me that came with the check didn’t say anything about depositing before the new semester. I am so frustrated and mad at my mom because this was alot of money and now I cant buy the car anymore. Please someone tell me that there is something that I can do im so desperate . I get all As and Bs.
So is ctu legally taking my money when I have signed the paperwork stating that I want to be responsible for paying my tuition out of my financial aid?
