Anyone else experiencing issues with the FAFSA rn?

I’ve been trying to add new colleges to my FAFSA for weeks by now, and yet every time it just says “Application failed to save”. I’ve contacted the FSA several times, and I’ve tried all of their suggested methods to fix the issue and none of it worked. I emailed them again but they haven’t responded and it’s been quite a while now.

In the meantime, I emailed my colleges to let them know of the situation but what am I meant to do now?

Family income inflated significantly

My parent's 1040 form shows their adjusted gross income is greater than 140k. Less than 30k of that is my family's business income. I'm applying to universities as a first-year undergraduate student, and my FAFSA SAI is crazy high, making me unsuitable for aid. Do I contact the universities that I'm applying to or FAFSA themselves? Is it possible to appeal the Pell Grant? I have my parent gambling/gaming activity from the casinos to show we lost more than won if needed. This damn process is making me rip my hair out. Please help. Thanks.

Asking for 2k more aid in summer ??

I have Pell grant and leftover amount of unsub/subsidized loan, but I’ll still be 2k short.

Would emailing the financial aid department work to try to get more aid ?

I also thought about emailing my specific major program, as well as the dean of university

Different FInancial Aid Offers

Hello, so I've been accepted and have received financial aid packages from two schools, Fordham University and Pace University. Is there a reason why Fordham doesn't show the same types of aid that Pace has? Also, why is the work study amount different? Is it normal for schools to not offer the same aid from FAFSA? (I'm a first gen student).

Fordham:

Federal Pell Grant - $7,395
Federal SEOG Grant - $1,000

Federal Work Study - $5,200

Direct Subsidized Loan - $3,500

Direct Unsubsidized Loan - $2,000

Pace:

Federal Pell Grant - $7,395

Academic Opportunity Grant N - $17,350

FAFSA Incentive Award - $2,000

Federal SEOG Grant - $1,800

Federal Work Study - $2,500

Direct Subsidized Loan - $3,500

Direct Unsubsidized Loan - $2,000

TMI for SAP appeal

I’ll try and keep this quick. I’m wondering how much evidence I’m supposed to attach to it? I’ve already submitted most of it, but I now have doctor’s notes from the school health facility for a few visits regarding psychiatry and therapy.

Most of these notes seem to be really extensive and monotonous, I’m not sure how helpful they’d be aside from providing some more evidence towards my points. Some of which are already mentioned in other notes I’ve already provided. Is this alright for an appeal? I’m not sure if too much information would hurt my case.

Also, in the notes I’d mentioned drinking and smoking- not very much, didn’t cause any problems and was solely recreationally, but I was underage. IIRC, I’d raised concern about that question and the therapist had told me it was no big deal, it’s college, and it’s confidential anyway. I’m not sure if the financial aid office would feel the same way.

Sorry for dumb questions, just stressed and unsure. Thanks.

Bankmobile refund selection

So I am a returning student after a year break, and I'm trying to select the bankmobile account as my refund preference for my student loan refund and it won't let me add my dob/last 4 of student I'd it keeps saying invalid. I've tried contacting them over email and phone and they keep saying the same thing that it should work. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I don't want to have to wait another 3 or 4 days to get my refund 😫

How to appeal the Federal Pell Grant rejection

I recently did the FAFSA. I did in in 2022, but I lost any motivation to go to college because I was living with my father, under his penny. However, he's stretched thin between 5 kids, one having severe autism and needing to live in a group home, and have special needs met.

I recently finally moved out on my own, work 2 jobs to live on my own, meet rent pay bills, and save a little to go to college. HOWEVER...

https://preview.redd.it/of6zl139a8ge1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=91df0ed4fdd1e7538104287071c10c1ab07eb364

What do I do? I can't pay to go to college. I can't go back to living with my father because he's 50 and wants to focus on supporting himself, and his autistic son who can't, however he no longer wants to work shift work at the chemical plant. So this or next year his income is about to drop drastically.

I CANNOT rely on him for a SINGLE penny. I NEED AID.
What do I do I can't go on like this I just want to go to college and live a normal damn life. Working every single day to get by I can't do it anymore.

EDIT: BTW, I'm 22, and just because I'm not homeless, an orphan, sick, pregnant, dead parents, I can't claim myself as an independent this is BULLSHIT

Does Fafsa cover summer?

I’m Graduating with my bachelors this semester but i want to take a couple classes before applying for a masters next year. These courses would be transient at my home college, not the one i’m graduating from, but i’m wondering if financial aid will help as i did apply for the 25-26 fafsa just in case.

FAFSA and Loan Processing for Grad School Advice

My son has completed all the necessary credits to graduate, but he was recently informed of the following:

The FAFSA paperwork was submitted on December 6, 2024, prior to his perceived deadline of December 14, 2024. However, we were just advised that the Direct Loan and Grad Plus Loan cannot be processed at this time due to the following reasons: he will not be attending the Spring term, and the Fall term has already closed out. The Fall term was concluded on December 14, 2024, and unfortunately, the FAFSA was submitted too late in the term to process the loans before that date.

The late fees have been removed from his account, and after his scholarship is applied, the remaining balance will be XX,XXX. For this balance, he was told he need to explore options for a back balance private loan or arrange for payment to cover the amount due. Any advice is welcome!

Can grants be used for food when living at home?

I’ll be half time at a community college taking online classes, and for the amount from federal alone and the classes I plan on taking when subtracting credit price, books, materials and fees, I still have a few hundred left over. Can this be used towards food even though I’m not living on a campus?

SAI and personal asset

I'm the parent on file for my daughter's FAFSA application. How much do personal savings affect the SAI score? These are savings that are kept in a regular savings account, and the interest is reported on my federal tax return. Could this raise my daughter's SAI score to a level where her student loan amount could be reduced?

Scholarship Disbursement

Disbursement was today but I wasn’t given my scholarships. I received the same scholarships for the last three semesters, no problem. Today Pell and state paid for my tuition which FA told me but that’s all they would tell me. My scholarships show up on my awards page.. has anyone had this problem? How do I fix It…

TIA!

Can i see flags on my FASFA in the Submission Summary

Ok, so i was flagged for UEH at the beginning and f this past fall semester, and the hold was cleared from my understanding. Would the hold potential come back for this Spring 25 semester , with me transferring mid year, and if so, would i be notified about it or able to see it within my submission summary ( formerly SAR)?

Negotiating Aid, Which is the best reason?

So I recently got accepted into the College of Charleston, my top choice, with a 7k yearly scholarship, but I can't go because it is too expensive so I want to ask them to give me more money. What reason should I lead with?

  1. Ask if they can match the cost of Rutgers, my in-state public school

2 Ask if they can raise my scholarship amount to 30k a year to match the scholarship that I received from Seton Hall University

SAP Appeal Assistance- length of time mitigating circumstances have affected me

Hi everyone! Looking for a bit of assistance. I’ve submitted my appeal twice. The first time I had an incredible amount of detail, including that my ADHD has affected me my entire life but I’m now on medication for it. It was denied and they said I mentioned years that didn’t pertain to the semester in question. Fine.

I talked to someone on the phone and they kind of just recited back to me what’s already on the mitigating circumstances sheet available on my schools website. I submitted appeal #2 with less info, didn’t mention any years, but still got denied for not saying how long my mitigating circumstance was affecting me.

I’m totally at a loss?? I only get one more try and the financial aid people at my school are no help. I have no idea what they want me to say. How can I give a length of time and not mention years?? Any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated!!

Appealing financial aid decision

Some background: My daughter is applying to college for this fall. Her mother and I are divorced. Her mother is not remarried. I remarried, but do not live with my spouse. My wife and I have two separate homes, separate dependents, do not share any finances, and file head of household on our taxes.

When filling out the FAFSA, I gave more financial support to my daughter in the past 12 months, which would make me the parent of record. Because I remarried, we need to include her stepmom's income on the FAFSA.

However... my wife will give no financial support to my daughter, and we don't share finances at all. We're married on paper, but otherwise have separate lives. It's a lifestyle 'choice' because our sons do not get along, ie they physically fight, so we can't live in the same house. My wife also has massive ($180k) student loan debt of her own. The idea that my wife would be able to contribute anything to my daughter's college is impossible. However, that's the way that the FAFSA is setup and that's the law, so we have to follow it by including her income in the form.

We just submitted the FAFSA and have not received financial aid offers yet, but is there any benefit to us attempting to appeal a financial aid decision with the colleges? Would the financial aid offices look at our situation and balk, or is there some validity to our situation in asking for a reconsideration?

Hello! Looking to send in a scholarship reconsideration email to a professional school I am hoping to attend. How do financial aid offices actual feel about merit scholarship reconsideration emails? What usually grinds your gears when receiving scholarship reconsideration emails? What advice do you have when sending one? Thank you!

Missed College Deadline

Hello! I started college at LA Film School in California in 2024 January and this is my first college so I’m pretty new to everything.

I’ve never had a consistent counselor or financial advisor so I’ve just been cruising through the school year on my own.

I just received an email from the school stating my FASFA has been exhausted and I owe 2K (which I cannot afford. I can barely afford to stay in random air bnbs..I was homeless for the first part of school). The student loans and Pell grants pay for school and help me survive too, honestly.

I was never told I had to apply for FASFA again before winter break for the next academic year. I didn’t even know who my counselor or financial aid person was until now. And I graduate in May!

I’m really sad and hurt and due to my own searching i realized that my FASFA was not exhausted. I just simply forgot to apply again for the next year!

The bad part is that I’m already finishing this course (Jan 6th - Jan 30th 2025 and my next one starts 2/3/25).

I just applied to the FASFA last night but all this anxiety is just getting to me. Any advice or any similar experiences? Will I be okay and will the 2K get covered by FASFA? I don’t know if it will process in time. My college has a deadline different than the state due to them being a trade school. The deadline is June but for them it was by the end of the month for December.

I have told myself if this situation can’t get fixed then I will have to withdraw which is sad being so close to graduating with a 3.9 GPA. I will call the Financial Aid office for my college once they open today.

Claiming partner on taxes

So my partner moved into my house in late 2023, and while I was not able to claim them as a dependent for 2024 (due to how long we were living together), this year, I could claim them as a dependent, since

  • They didn’t make over $5,050 this year
  • We lived together all year
  • I provide more than half of their financial support

However, they are planning on going back to college this year, which would mean applying for FAFSA. If I were to claim them as a dependent this year, is there any possibility I could be liable for their student loans? I don’t want the government coming after me or garnishing my wages or anything. We live in Michigan, if that matters.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

My bank statement decreased—should I notify the financial aid office?

I'm submitting my financial aid documents, and my parents' bank statement now shows a lower balance than when I initially reported it. My parents had to pay several bills this month, which caused the decrease. However, if you add up previous expenses and our current savings, it still reflects the amount I originally reported. Should I notify the financial aid office about this change?

Trouble with filling out NYS TAP.

One of the questions asks for NY Taxable income from line 37. On the tax return form, on line 37 you have to subtract line 36 from 35, but when I do that it gives me a negative number. So what am I supposed to put for the taxable income?
