Registering with GP

Hello!

I am new to the area and moved to St Andrews a week ago. I am wondering how I should register with a doctor (if I’m not mistaken, it’s called registering with a GP, right?). Could anyone explain the registration process, please? Should my spouse and children register as well?

Thank you!

Taxi Inquiry for St Andrews

Hello! My family (2 adults and 2 children) will be arriving at Leuchars train station next week. Our destination is St Andrews. We have four pieces of luggage, so we don’t think taking the bus would be convenient. I understand there are usually taxis near the bus station at Leuchars, but I’m wondering if they are still available in the evening. We are scheduled to arrive at 8 pm. Could you also let me know the approximate cost of a taxi ride from Leuchars to St Andrews?

Thank you!

Fish Van

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Is there a fish van that still operates locally in Glenrothes?

Moving In - Next Steps Advice

Hello!

Today, I moved into my new rental house in St Andrews. I have already set up the broadband (internet).

What are the next steps once you move into a new place?

  1. I believe I now need to notify the council so they can start sending my council tax bills. Is that correct? If so, how do I go about doing this? Could someone please provide a detailed explanation of the process?

  2. I also need to sign up for utility bills (gas, electricity). Should this be done separately, or is there a combined service? Again, could you explain how this is typically managed?

Is there anything else I've missed?

Please let me know. Thanks! Apologies if this sounds a bit unfamiliar - this is my first time living in the UK.

Decent used cars for sale?

We're looking for a decent petrol runner for around £5-6k and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places to look?

Robert Black in Inverkeithing would be far too expensive for us and auto trader is nearly impossible to search since it includes "national delivery" cars in a local search radius.

Just looking for somewhere trustworthy to buy from.

Any recommendations very much appreciated!

Recommendations to fit trickle vents to existing windows

We’ve recently bought our first house in north Fife. The windows don’t seem that old but must be from before trickle vents were made mandatory, and the house could do with the additional ventilation, especially the upstairs. The previous owners clamped down on every source of air flow, including stuffing rags into the extractor fan in the bathroom (which I will be replacing), so everything just feels stuffy and there could be potential for condensation coming into winter.

Routing out window frames is a bit beyond my personal DIY skills, and the window fitters I reached out to only fit brand new windows (which we don’t have the money for just now since all the savings went on the house itself).

Does anybody have any recommendations for good tradesmen in the Fife area that can fit these to existing windows?

NHS therapy in Fife?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with accessing any sort of psychological therapy on the NHS in Fife? What are the current waiting times? Is there good availability and are the therapists okay? I want to make an appointment with my GP tomorrow to talk about starting antidepressants and getting referred for therapy, but I anticipate I will have to wait a while for therapy and just want to be prepared on what to expect.

F28 Looking for friends in Dunfermline

Hello!

Myself and my husband moved to Dunfermline last year and I don't know anyone near by! I tried to a few groups/classes but most people were significantly older (50/60s)

Are there any social groups for people in late 20's and 30s?

Woke up way too early and hit the West Sands when it was pitch black—couldn’t even see the ball! Then the sun started rising in all its glory, and I suggested, "Let’s sit and watch this beautiful sunrise." Nah, just throw the damn ball. 🌅🐾

Proof of Address Inquiry

Hello!

I am a new member of the University of St Andrews. I was unable to find accommodation in St Andrews until recently, but I have now found a place where I will move in two weeks. I haven't signed the lease agreement yet.

My spouse and children will arrive in the UK in November. I found a nice school that is not in my catchment area, but I have already spoken with the headteacher, and she told me they have available spots for them. They should be able to attend fairly soon, even though it is outside our catchment area, if everything goes well.

I need to fill out some forms and provide proof of address and proof of identity.

I have a few questions about proof of address:

  1. Can the lease agreement between me, my spouse and the landlord serve as proof of address for my children?

  2. I understand that utility bills and council tax bills can also be considered proof of address. Once I sign the lease but haven't moved in yet, can I add myself and my spouse to the utility and council tax bills? How should I go about doing this, and how long does it usually take? I’m not sure of the process.

Please let me know! Many thanks!

Renting in Scotland

Hello,

Ive been looking for a 2-3 bedroom an hour driving distance from Edinburgh.

Ive noticed that lots of places advertised by agents seem to be lower than expected. For example, theres a 3 bedroom flat advertised for 650 in Leven that looks really modern and nice.

Is this to put interested bidders into bidding wars?? Or would it generally be the actual price? Would I be expected to offer above the asking price? If so, how much is normally offered more?

Thank you

Aurora from Leven beach tonight! 10/10/2024

I finally managed to see the Aurora tonight! ☺️ We drove up to Balcormo first then decided to head down Leven beach and that was where we saw it best.

It was actually pretty visible to the naked eye as well.

Did anyone else see it? ☺️

Neighbours don't look after their cat

I just saw a post about a family looking to adopt a kitten, and it reminded me of an issue I'm dealing with.

Our neighbours don't take care of their cats properly. They have 3 (maybe 4?) adult cats and 2 kittens, but they’ve already sold or given away a couple. The two remaining kittens are struggling.

About a month ago, they started coming over to our place and eating our cat’s food. They were really skinny at first and were shaking. We don’t mind feeding them (free cats — we love it!), plus our cat doesn’t have any issues with them.

My only worry is whether they’ve been vaccinated or treated for fleas. So far, they seem clean, but I’m not sure. Also, both are females, so they’ll need to be spayed soon.

What should I do? I’d prefer not to talk to the neighbours—they’ve never been friendly, and they’ve even thrown trash in our bins a few times—but I feel like I might have to.

How to buy a wee cat and not support scummy breeders?

Hi all! My wife wants a wee cat. She wanted it for ages. She always had a cat growing up. She tried to get a cat via those shelters and charities but they don't make it easy at all.

Long story short, we want to buy a wee cat, but really don't want to support some random scummy breeder. Does anyone have any suggestions/know of legit sellers?

Thanks for all the help.
