Tell me why mining is not a good idea

I've held modest amounts of btc and traded others over the years.

Just now getting interested in mining.

I've always heard and read "it's not profitable anymore" and "you'd be better off just buying that crypto and holding" and I thought nothing of it.

But now looking at how easy some of these new home miners are, and if I'm understanding correctly -

average ROI in like 1-2 years??

Like they pay for themselves in 1-2 years or less?

And many people think that's a BAD thing?

I don't understand.

People buy other businesses, real estate, etc. that takes so much more work, and takes so much longer to expect to break even.

I get that crypto is riskier, and there is some work involved in power and heat management, etc. But if the average ROI is under 2 years, and also has the potential to drastically improve if the price of crypto goes UP... why is this not an amazingly good idea for an investment?

Honestly, shoot me down. Because I know I'm still a beginner just getting excited.

Thinking About Buying a Doge Miner to Support the Network—Looking for Advice! 🚀🐕

Hey everyone,

I've been a big believer in Dogecoin and its community for a while now, and I’ve decided to take things a step further—I want to start mining Doge! 🐶💛

This isn’t just about making a profit for me. I genuinely believe in the vision of Dogecoin as a decentralized, community-driven currency, and I want to help strengthen the network by running a miner. From what I understand, miners play a crucial role in securing transactions and keeping the blockchain running smoothly.

Right now, I’m considering buying a Goldshell Mini Doge or something similar. My goal is to mine and HODL while also contributing to the ecosystem.

A few questions for experienced miners out there:
🔹 Is the Goldshell Mini Doge a good option, or should I look into something else?
🔹 Any tips on setting up and optimizing for efficiency?
🔹 What should I expect in terms of noise, heat, and electricity usage?
🔹 If you’ve been mining for a while, how has your experience been?

I’d love to hear from the community—whether you’re a miner yourself or just passionate about Doge! Let’s keep spreading the good vibes and decentralization. 🚀🐕

Much wow,
David

Melted PCIE connector (can I hardwire?)

So I have a goldshell miner that has smoked its PCI-E connector. It’s a mini doge pro drawing 220W through its single connector. I read varied numbers, but most say the max wattage through a single PCIE is between 75W to 150W. It cooked well enough that the female and male plugs were thermally fused. I got them apart but the connectors are broken.

I am running a BITMAIN APW5 Power Supply 2600W, it’s got the juice, but the pcie connectors just can’t handle 220W.

If I have to open the box and replace the PCIE connector again, does anyone see an issue if I just remove the connector and hard wire a thicker gauge cable direct to the one of the three holes in the motherboard? The motherboard has all three power legs interconnected together and all three grounds interconnected where the PCI sockets connects. I don’t see an issue running a heavier gauge power cable to just one hole. Maybe zip tie the cable in place to the case

I can use any 12V connector and fuse between there and the screw terminal of the PSU. The PSU cables were damaged by being melted so need to be replaced anyway.

Any considerations I am missing here? I just don’t see the sense in replacing the connector with one having the same wattage limitations.

DG 1 Home Wifi Issues

Hey guys so I've had my DG 1 Home for a few days and I've been back and fourth with the support team who's been very responsive however the issue still remains of the machine not wanting to connect to Wifi after multiple firmware updates and reboots it's still down. I have it hardwired at the moment but wires running through the house isn't the best. Just putting this issue out there incase any other folks are having the same issue. I have yet to get a good answer of what they will do now that I feel like we have exhausted all efforts. Will keep you guys updated on what they are willing to do.

Hash rate mini doge iii

I set up my mini doge iii with a good psu a couple of weeks ago and have been running it at max hashrate mostly since. I live in a cold climate and it totally works with supplementing my heat, I even used it as a space heater under my desk when working from home (instead of a regular space heater). I see a lot of people have their mini doge iii living on low power mode? Is there any reasons I should be worried. I feel like these machines should be ok to run at hashrate no? My PSU also has a trigger for short circuit but then again that might not help when it does combust.

What did LTC/DOGE miners cost when DOGE was under 3 cents?

I recently got into mining, and paying attention to miners and miner prices. I'm seeing the hyper-pricing cycle play out with Kaspa miners, Alephium miners, and now ALEO miners.

However, I was just wondering what miners had cost when DOGE was not on a bull-run. Was the L7 cheap? Was it still $7K+, $15K+? What was the yield and the estimated profits at the time?

Mainly just curious...

Any recommendations for native liquidity pools?

Trying to get away from Thorchain. Curious if anyone has a native liquidity project worth looking into. Trying to avoid ETH, POL, SOL and other centralized networks. If liquidity pools aren't your thing, what do you do with the coins you mine? Thanks in advance.

Mini Doge 3 Plus

Wow, this thing is a little space heater! I’m a little nervous sitting it on the carpeted floor. I got a metal plate for it to sit on for now, but will probably move it off the floor in the near future.

It’s averaging around 73c so far.

Do you do anything else with it to help with the heat, like blow a fan on the back? I couldn’t find what the ideal operating temp was, just that the room should be 0-35c.

It’s a pretty neat little miner! I just want to make sure the heat is normal.

Bitmain L9 Issues

Hi all - looking for a bit of guidance here. I just got a brand new L9 in and it is having a issue. It will mine anywhere between like 2-7 hours then stop mining and throw the same errors in the logs. I attached them below. I am unsure what is going on with this thing, it is my first asic ever. Once it stops mining, the dashboard is still fully accessible. I have it plugged into a 20amp 240v outlet with a 20amp pdu. I cannot update the firmware, when I go tot he dashboard and try from there, nothing happens, doesnt even show anything in the log files about it. I noticed the latest firmware on bitmain website is from 9/2024. The firmware version mine has is 12/31/2024, so I am not sure. Any guidance would be appreciated!

MD3+ kinda sucks now

Noticing significant decrease. When I first got mine I would get around 6 coins a day but today I'll be lucky to get around 4. Anyone else noticing this as well?

Well, DOGE is indeed the favorite PoW coin among miners.

https://preview.redd.it/cnh7snyg0qee1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d1c56e2170c3ec8664ff20f05fba818ce6a8fed

In 2024, benefiting from the launch of multiple merged mining, LTC has been a popular currency. At the same time, DOGE also has a lot of good news, and the price continues to rise.

It seems that LTC and DOGE are becoming an indispensable part of the PoW field.

Keep moving in 2025.

DG Max Firmware update

Goldshell just released firmware update for DG Max and E-DG1M. I want to know the performance of DGMax after an update. Does it improve efficiency? Does it affect the hashrate significantly? Please show me the numbers if you own one.

Goldshell Mini Doge control board

I have a Goldshell Mini Doge without wifi. It seems to be having a control board issue, and I was wondering if I can replace the control board with a used control board from a Goldshell HNS box and just flash over the Mini Doge firmware. I cant seem to find this question anywhere or any sort of relevant information. I know the boards are all sold as the same thing online so I am assuming this will work. Has anybody done this before?

Under-preforming miner - whats happening? Says full hash rate, but reports a rate way lower than expected. Low error rate and few stale shares. Brother miner running fine.

I have a mini doge III running on low-power mode:

Miner reports: 506.33MH, HE Error 0.38%, reject rate 0.67% - Nonces 71079, Accepted 4315, HW error 264, Reject 29

Pool shows Current: 34,197 KiloHash, 24 Hr 38,603kH, Shares 90,698,752, Stale 391,168 (0.43%), Invalid Shares 0

Not a ton of stale shares, and not a ton of hardware errors. So, can anyone walk me through how 506MH becomes 34,197 KILO hash?

I am not sure what happening. I am getting under preforming results using this miner on other pools too, but nonm this low. 130ish MH). I may have to pull the unit because its costing me money.

For comparison, its brother miner, is reporting 552MH at the pool on low power. WTF?

Need some Advice on PowerPool !

So I just seen Mining-Dutch has 16 coins for PPLNS scripted mining merge mining Doge now! I just let ViaBTC just heard few not so go things and there pricey to withdraw my personal reason I changed pool!

So I Just moved all my old Doge asic mini miners all over to PowerPool ! Heard few YouTubers claiming PowerPool.io was the best for Doge ! Heard PowerPool paid fully out the best ! These mining pools are getting dishonest and with holding coins payouts Etc aka robbing us for the most part !

I am very new to PowerPool have not had the time yet to dive deeper into into meat and potatoes of PowerPool site yet ! I don't remember seeing a option for Merge mining ? Anyone ? not even sure if PowerPool even offers PPLNS with many coins paid out?

I only get BTC in very small amounts so far on PowerPool ! Not blowing my hair back on the crumbs of BTC payouts lol but I heard the owner of PowerPool talking some good stuff ! I really liked his point view . This owner made sense to me ! He sounded like he knows most of these Mining Pool are so shady !

Well I get paid out very very little all in BTC. It really not much. My thoughts are If move workers over to Mining Dutch that now paying out over16 different coins or mining PPLNS on F2pool?? . I feel I should be making few dollars per day at least mining PPLNS on MiningDutch???

Even with old Equipment I just want the most $ for my time effort feel me!

Goldshell E-DG1M

Hey guys, had a bunch of old miners sitting around and decided to sell them. Now planning to get a doge home miner so was exploring my options. Budget is up to 3000$. The E-DG1M sounds like the most attractive option I have. Another would be the Fluminer L1 but that wont be available at a reasonable price anytime soon (at least till april).

Any other recommendation? (Neglect electricity costs, and I'm looking for home miners that arent crazy loud)

Antminer L9 Safe inlet, outlet, and hardware errors?

What is the safe range of temps for the Antminer L9 on the inlet and outlet? How many hardware errors are expected per period of time(Ex: hours, days). Any after market firmware to improve efficiency yet? Thanks in advance!

Quick question for yall

What is a good miner I can buy that would be profitable. I get free electricity and internet from 7pm-9am and I want to take advantage of it. I’m wanting to spend around 4-5k and use it at home. It gets into the 50-60s in my room this time of year so a space heater wouldn’t hurt 🤪
