Journal in WhatsApp

Hey everyone,

I created Chat Diary which is an AI powered voice journal baked right into WhatsApp.

I'm curious to hear what you think. It's very early days but I'm excited to build something innovative and easy to use. What do you think?

Cheers!

What if your journal could understand you and gives you advice?

Hi everybody, me and a friend are building a new way of journaling and we would love to get your opinion and are looking for people that want to build the product with us. I have been journaling for some time and have many old journals in my shelf. I am constantly wondering which treasures and insights are hidden in my old journals. So, we asked ourselves:

  • What if your journal could understand you?
  • What if your journal asks questions and automatically turns my entries into insights?
  • What if I could ask my journal questions about past entries?

A couple of months later and these questions turned into layers, an journaling iOS-app that uses AI to help you understand yourself better. We have a first version live and would love to get your opinion. It is currently capable of:

  • Use your voice to create your journal entries.
  • Dive deeper into your topics using questions that are tailored for you.
  • Get automatic insights about your mood, emotions, stressors, key-insights and the things that made you happy this week.
  • Next: Get regular feedback and scientific content on the topics that you matter to you in your journal.

We have a first version live and would love to get your opinion and we are looking for people that want to test the app and help us build the product :)! You can test it for free here on layersjournal.app

Is there a free AI secured Journaling app?

As the title states! I'm looking to move from Samsung Notes and Luna Diary:Written On The Moon which is cute but I don't think these are encrypted or have a backup for them. If it's not AI that's okay. I just wanted innovative entries.

Does anyone here use Microsoft Word as their Journal or any note taking app like Obsidian/Notion/EverNote/OneNote etc.

Hey people,

I don't understand these note taking apps and the more complex it is the more confusion there is. Also I'm afraid I'll lose them for some reason, how, don't ask.

I want to use Word Files as my note taking app and journals. I'll pack all of the stuff in a single one and just forget it exists. Does anyone else is doing something like this?

Is there any word note taking tutorial maybe?

Is it possible to sync word files PC-Phone?

I wanna start jounalling.

I feel really lonely nowadays cause I moved to a new city and I think journalling with give my mind some solace, but I haven't really done it ever except for diary entries when I was a kid.

Is there any completely free app that is cross platform and works both on phone and laptop, no need for cloud support, I can setup a sharing environment (like syncthing, or one drive). Requires a password to open the app, cause that reminds me of those little locks I had for my diary and gives a sense of security(?) lol.

Any recommendations/ tips on how to start, best practices, apps to use? Thank you :)

After journaling for ten years, I built an Ai powered (voice) journaling app for self actualization

My typical method is to write in one long Notes document for every year. I really wanted to have a ChatGPT to talk to about my journals, to get insights, make connections and generally chat about many topics. Recently I built this app, where the Ai chatbot is built into the journaling app. It has an accurate voice to text transcription. There are several preset prompts for asking common questions like 'give me a summary', 'give me advice', ' what connections do you see', 'give me prompts to write about' and more.

I was really inspired by the 'morning pages' from the artists way.

There is a challenge to complete 30 days of daily journaling.

The website can be found at https://iamllm.com

Let me know what you think. Here is a quick tutorial video and screen shots.

"Writing is nature's way of telling us how lousy our thinking is"-Guindon

My friend and I are sharing our journaling journey. This is our first attempt at podcasting, so please forgive any editing and production quality. We hope this conversation is helpful to anyone starting journalling.

Getting insights into your subconscious mind with GPT-4

The inspiration came from 'Morning Pages' journaling (introduced in The Artist's Way) that I came across and started around than a year and half ago. This is basically stream-of-consciousness journaling, or you can call it a brain dump, done first thing in the morning. I personally like to do it after a brief meditation of some kind.

I've noticed that when doing this with flow and completely in the present moment, your subconscious thoughts tend to come out on paper. I have been experimenting on myself and getting GPT-4 to analyse this and get insights into my own subconscious mind.

The main thing I've seen is important to get right, even prior to using AI / GPT-4, is to ensure the writing experience is conducive to flow. To achieve this, I created a timer that ticks when you are distracted from writing, and more such small but imo important features.

I've turned this into an external product too to see if people would find it useful: www.quillow.me

I'd love to get some feedback!

Note, there is a 7 or 14 day free trail before moving to paid; to be candid, the intention behind this is to see if there are enough people who find it useful enough so that I can afford to put more energy and time into this.

Using handwriting for digital journaling

Hello everyone, I recently relocated and figured that I cannot sustain a physical paper journal. I am currently struggling with finding a good app on iPad to sustain my journaling habit, however, I am not sure which is the best alternative to try. I tried using good old Notes app, Notability, Freenotes and Obsidian but somehow I felt notabilityā€™s interface was akin to paper journaling despite the lack of the touch and feel of paper and pen. Any ideas of how you all are managing digital journaling with your Apple pencils and iPad as toolsā€¦" ? Thanks

Why do you write a diary/journal?

Personally, I began mine six years ago due in part to a fear of death. Now I write pretty much only because I have done since then.

Digital Journaling Recommendations

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good apps to journal on?

Unfortunately, arthritis in my hands is creeping up on me faster than I'd like and I've been putting off doing things that I enjoy (art and writing) for the past couple of months but not really wanting to admit the real reason why. It's actually made me really sad. My hands just get really painful, swollen and sometimes numb.

What are your thoughts on journaling digitally?

If you journaled traditionally before, how easy was the transition?

Any recommendations would be awesome. I would like for it to look as much like a journal as possible, that I could add pictures/photos too etc.

Thanks in advance!

Which is a better way to store my journals digitally for perpetuity? Day One or in Markdown files, each containing 10 days of journal? Your advice please!

I have been journaling daily since 2017. I am thinking of converting my journals, stored in pdf, into a format that I could access to decades from now. I view my old journals as a source for me to reflect on life and gain insights on how to plan my days and improve on my issues. Therefore, I need to have easy access to them in a user friendly format.

Pros of Day One

- pictures

- beautiful formatting

- multiple notebooks

- easier to sort & search

Pros of Markdown (dates in #year #date eg #1225)

- less restrictions and hassles on accessing the files

- easier to transfer from archive in pdf format

- lower costs

- easier to transfer from the archive in pdf formatonger in use

I use my planners for to do lists and journaling, and memory keeping.

I use iPad and goodnotes. Planner purchased from Wildberry planners on Etsy. :)

I love how easy it is to pull photos over into my spreads.

Best way to preserve digital journals

Hi ppl :D hope yā€™all are doing fine.

Iā€™m trying to find the best way to preserve my digital journals. My plan is to revisit my stuff in 5, 10, 15 years.

I set up a nice Journaling page in notion a couple years ago and Iā€™ve been using it, but I donā€™t want to keep depending on Notion existing to have my memories there, as well as my privacy. Everyday random Notion accounts are deleted without notice, and, at the end of the day, it might just disappear in some years, who knows.

What I love about notion is being able to search a word inside my journaling page and see all the entries where I mentioned it, and the tags, of course. Yet I imagine ill have to sacrifice this.

That being said, i have one idea, id like to have your feedback. Thanks for your time.

Simple text format on my PC. Tags/dates would be on the note title so I can have them in order, on a folder per month. I would back them up in 2 hard drives and my cloud.

Maybe thereā€™s some self-hosted options? Just a nice UI with some text format? I donā€™t know.

Again, thanks for your time. :D

Favorite features of digital journaling

Hi everyone! I'm still relatively new to reddit (this is my second post!), so please bear with me.

In my last post, I just generally asked about making the switch to digital journaling. I'm back with a more specific question! I'd like to hear about the specific features of digital journaling that you really enjoy (whether you have your own system or you use a program / app). I'd also love to hear about any features you miss from analog journaling or just any features maybe you don't love as much. Thanks so much everyone!

Apps for data/form journaling?

Does anyone else journal by using daily forms and numeric ratings? I send myself a google form at the end of each day with preset questions, including numeric ratings in different areas of my life like health, relationship, etc. I have been doing this for a couple years and I think it's really helpful to see the numeric trends over time but it's a lot of work to analyze all the data. Does anyone know of any apps that do this? I haven't found any and I've been thinking about trying to build something but I also don't know anyone else who does this type of journaling. Curious to hear if other people are interested in this approach or if it's just a weird personal preference.
