We have come across a variety of postcards which date from 1902 - 1920. Amongst the generic tourist scenes there are some postcards of note. I have attached photos here which show the types. Many were sent from the Scottish National Exhibition in 1908. Most are photo postcards but there are some cartoon style ones.
There are around 100 interesting ones. An antique dealer has offered us £115 for the lot. I know he will want to mark them up for resale but this seems like a low offer to me. Does anyone have and idea of the value of this type of card?
Edit: claimed. Thank you.
A small collection (think Manila envelope) that likely has no monetary value but kinda fun to look at. Some from 1902! Message me. I'll mail them to you if you're in the US. No cost/charge. Cleaning out some estate items. Can't store these items any longer. Maybe you'll enjoy them.
Hi there deltiologists
I'm looking for good storage and display solutions. I'm looking for discreet and stylish, hangable frames for display. What i'm finding online seems flimsy and not ideal so far.
Any thoughts or recommendations, any insight would be greatly appreciated!
All the best.
Hello! I am a college student in the US doing research for my design capstone project, about postcards and the human connection that comes from sending written notes. I would be so grateful if you could reply or DM me your experiences with collecting / sending / receiving postcards.
How did you start collecting postcards? Why?
Are there specific types of postcards you prefer to look for?
Do you ever read what is written on the back of an old postcard? Does the writing encourage or discourage you from enjoying a postcard?
Do you send / receive postcards? Why do you enjoy it?
How do you feel about connections that are made through physical mail (postcards) vs. keeping in touch online today?
Do you collect new postcards when you travel? Do you send these?
These are just some ideas, I would be happy to learn about anything you have to share!
(p.s. I have made similar posts on other threads related to postcards, so I apologize if you have already seen this)
I love to write postcards and I was wondering if y’all ever use your collections to send postcards. Would you write in a valuable postcard?
Hi! I'm looking for informations about a Rotary Photographic Co. London series from the beginning of the 20th century that feature musicians and composers like Haendel, Schumann, Grieg, etc.
Is there someone here that knows this series? I would like to know which composers were depicted, dates of printing, or find some kind of catalog or bibliographic reference that could help with my research.
Thank you all in advance!
I'm just interested in knowing about some of your collections. Do you collect postcards by age, subject or type? Maybe particular publishers?
There are six subjects I collect:
1913 Floods - The Great USA Floods of 1913
Bizarre Postcards - Some unusual subjects for postcards
Bristol - Postcards of Bristol, England
Limestone Quarries - The limestone quarries of Indiana
Terre Haute - Postcards of Terre Haute, Indiana
Wabash River - Indiana's Wabash River
should i collect postcards or is it a complete waste of my life. please help me please
I found these three vintage postcards that were written on and mailed in a batch I purchased to send out. I was hoping someone here might have a spot for them in their collection. I would be happy to mail them in an envelope to anyone who would like them.
Some photo postcards I have from the early 1900s are sepia-colored, and when held at a certain angle, all the darker areas are shiny or silvery. I undrstand there are processes known as silver print, platinum print, platinograph, etc. How can I tell which is which, or can any of them accurately be described as silver print? How common was/is that process? Thanks!
I know very little about postcards and am trying to learn. This sample is from an album of cards mostly from around the same date (PM is 1917) and the same area (Germany), but unlike most others in the album, this one is thinner brown stock, and there's nothing on the other side -- no picture, no message, nothing. To me, aside from the date, it seems non-descript. I can see value in collecting cards related to locations or events or various themes. What's the attraction of a card like this one?
Hello!!!
I'm trying to discover any information related to some photographic postcards from 1924/25, mostly featuring the kanto earthquake and Nanjing. Such as photographers, manufacturers/developers, etc.
So far I can only deduce that they are from/collected by someone in the British navy stationed probably at Weihaiwei - unsure whether they are the actual photographer.
I can't find much information, and the postage square on many of them isn't similar to any I've seen on any websites.
I'm yet to find any similar images. I haven't found much information yet but its quite clear I'm definitely gonna have to start collecting postcards after this experience!!!
Thanks for reading.
Looking to share my postcard collection with folks - I've been collecting on-and-off as long as I can remember but it's time to start down-sizing. There are a lot of vintage cards in my collection (1920s, 1930s, etc), if folks are interested. I'm not looking for an exchange; I want to get rid of the collection by sharing it with folks who care.
Please DM me for more info and include any interests and your address! I have some (limited) new/unused but can share used ones, if interested
What kind of sleeves do you use and where do you get them? I've acquired a bundle of about 100 old postcards that came in a shoebox and would like to protect and store them in a better way. Thanks!
