Newbie alert , sticker question.

I love putting stickers on the cards to the theme of the recipients likes. Exactly how close am I allowed to put them to the stamp please ? Not sure of the mailing process and if it is likely to interfere with recognising the stamp etc. Thanks.

Do people in your country usually use or understand cursive writing in languages that use the Latin alphabet? I need it for signing postcards.

Hey everyone! My handwriting in languages that use Latin alphabet is mostly cursive with random letters looking like print and having spaces between letters within one word. But still, it looks mostly like cursive.

I usually write in print (which looks rather sloppy imo) when signing postcards to Japan, China, and sometimes India. It would be a good idea to know where people don't have trouble understanding cursive writing in languages that use the Latin alphabet and where people are less likely to understand your handwriting unless it's print.

An example of my handwriting in English and Spanish (both foreign languages to me but I'm quite decent at them)

Thank you in advance!

Mailing postcards overseas

I'm sure there's a simple answer but I just can't find it. I'm new to PostCrossing and have only sent out my first three postcards. Is there something in "settings" where you can request U.S. addresses only? I don't mind the occasional international to start but now I'm getting addresses in foreign countries and simply don't want to continue to buy international postage stamps. It's 53 cents for a postcard stamp versus $1.55 for an international stamp. Also, I just received my next address in Poland. Is there any way to "cancel" it or do I have to cave in and go ahead and send it? Thanks for your help!

What is the point of listing expired postcards in oneā€™s profile?

I frequently see profiles with a section labeled ā€œexpiredā€ where they list the IDs of all their expired cards, or sometimes just something to the effect of ā€œexpired: too many to countā€.

Is there a use or purpose to listing expired postcards in your profile? Is it just to let the receiver know itā€™s expired when they go to register it? Or to commiserate the shortcomings of the postal service? No judgment, just curious. :)

Stamps - UK

Hello. I'm very new to all this. My question may seem a bit obvious , I'm not sure. I'm sending cards from the UK to around the world , it's expensive ,Ā£2.50 a time ! I find that people like different stamps , I don't want to send stamps with just King Charles head on all the time. Can I just buy nice stamps and stick them on , to the value of Ā£2.50? Will they still get there ? When I look on Royal Mail website there are some nice stamps but they don't have the scanny / QR type code on them that my Charles head stamps have , are the stamps without the scan code still ok to use when bought from Royal Mail ?

Travelling Toy

Hi all! I have always found this concept interesting and tried to start one myself! I posted it on the Postcrossing forums and am adding it here in case anyone is interested:

Postcard to Russia

Hi everyone! I'm looking for people who would like to exchange postcards (and even paper letters) with a resident of Russia. If anyone is interested, I will leave my discord in the comments, where I will write my address.

Canadian Postcrossers

I recently joined the website to do this with my son. He loves learning about new cultures and obsessed with geography. The price of postage is killing me, a set of 6 international stamps is over 18$. Where does everyone get there stamps? Or am I stuck paying this price lol.

What is your process?

Just a couple general discussion questions I wondered about as I was decorating and writing postcards today. I know my process, and that made me wonder about othersā€™ habits, esp. those that are maxed out.

What is the max number of cards you can have traveling currently?

Do you tend to stay at max capacity, or does that wax and wan?

If you stay maxed out, how do you go about maintaining this consistently?

Postcrossing ID

Hi all! I just started Post Crossing last week and I've sent my first three postcards. Now, to be sure, you don't write YOUR actual name and address, right? Just theirs, a short message, and the Post Crossing ID somewhere so they can register it when they receive it? Thanks!

Friends/family reactions?

It feels like with much in life, Postcrossing goes in wavesā€¦ where some weeks Iā€™m getting generic messages, profiles I donā€™t connect as much with, empty Hurrays and other weeks are like this amazing one! This week really solidified for me why Iā€™m on Postcrossing:

  • receiving six lovely cards that all had nice messages and it was clear either through the message, card image, or stamps that they really read my profile and personalized it for me
  • my very first received cards from Ireland and Nepal!
  • some incredibly nice and detailed Hurray messages for cards I sent, even an enthusiastic one from someone who was so happy with what I sent that they want to send me a thank you card back to me (a first!)
  • two replies to Hurray messages I sent (another first!)
  • and I won a lottery on the forums!

I was trying to excitedly explain everything that happened this week to my sisterā€¦ and I think she tried to match my enthusiasm but couldnā€™t say much more than ā€œoh, thatā€™s niceā€. Perhaps only us Postcrossers would understand šŸ˜‚

So how have your friends and family reacted to you being a Postcrosser?

Do You Ask Questions On Your Postcards? Do You Respond To Questions On Postcards?

Sometimes if I see "I like folk music" or something like that on someone's profile I will ask them what their favorite folk band is. Does anyone else do this? How many times have you had someone answer the question?

If someone asks me a question on the postcard I tend to reply in the hurray message. Does anyone else do this?

How to Store Postcards?

Hi! I am fairly new to postcrossing, and I really enjoy sending and receiving postcards. However, I currently don't have an ideal way to store my received postcards. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for other ways to store them? I've looked into getting a photo album, but I'm struggling to find one that is non-adhesive and also is see-through, so i can look at both the image and the message. Any advice will be very much appreciated!

Cahokia Mounds postcard

Iā€™m looking for a blank/unwritten and not stamped Cahokia Mounds postcard. We took a trip there and the gift shop was closed. I was really hoping to grab one for a souvenir. Does anyone have one they wouldnā€™t mind parting with? Thank you!

[Exchange] [India to WW]

Hey. I have a bunch of postcards featuring various breeds of pigeons. Great quality paper printed by Ivy Press in East Sussex. I'm on a vacation in India and I'll be posting it from here but my residence is in the US so I need postcards to be sent there.

Expired Postcards

I have a question. Iā€™ve been part of the postcrossing community since June 2023. Iā€™m from Canada and in October 2023, I sent a postcard to somebody in China. In the personā€™s profile, they said something about writing the mailing address in Chinese so it would be delivered easier; however, I had a brain fart and wrote it in English and didnā€™t even think of printing it off. At this point, I think I may try sending them a different postcard, but I had a question about the whole expired postcard thing. Is there a point where the expired postcards donā€™t get delivered, but end up being deleted from a personā€™s travelling list? I know that sounds silly and far fetched, but I was just curious and I thought Iā€™d ask.
