Dashcam videos, recommendations, and troubleshooting
~Why a Dashcam?~
Dashcams are a cheap insurance policy. In case of an accident, the opposing party can lie about what happened to reduce the likelihood that they are found to be at fault. Happens all the time. Having video of what happened can save you $1000's in insurance and potential legal fees. Dashcams can also get you out of falsely written tickets. If you don't have a dashcam and are given a ticket for an infraction you didn't commit, it's your word vs the police officer's word. With a dashcam, there is irrefutable evidence to prove your innocence. There is absolutely no reason not to get one. See the listings below to get started.
Second, dashcam videos are an excellent form of driver's education. Watching videos of other accidents may help others recognize potential accidents before they happen and maybe even scare them out of bad driving habits such as texting and driving or speeding.

Left green arrow. I think the person saw their left turn lane go and assumed they had a green. They continued through the intersection after, so they slowly ran a red light
Two red light runners, an indecisive idiot, and a pedestrian crossing before it’s their turn. This is my best catch yet 😂
Hi all, I have a Honda Civic and had my Rove R2-4K Dual dashcam installed at a big box store recently. I bought the dashcam and hardwire kit on my own and had it installed. I like the dashcam so far and was able to connect with my phone when I got home. However, I noticed the first evening when I went outside that the dashcam was recording with the car off. I don’t remember when I was playing around with the wifi whether it was doing so then or not. It’s supposed to go into standby mode a minute after the engine turns off and go into collision detection mode. I’m not sure if something was wired wrong or if I messed up my setup. Any tips on debugging this?
I will be driving my wife's older Honda, and I want to put on a back up camera, a front dash camera and back dash camera.
What are some good budget products you recommend?
My budget is $250 for all 3.
Driving in Southern California is just straight up dangerous and getting worse. It's time to pony up the cash and get a decent dash cam. Any recommendations? Again, 2010 Prius in good condition. I'd prefer to have hidden wiring. Would it be better to just delegate out to a professional or has anyone has luck doing the install themselves? My budget is pretty limited, so midrange pricing would be helpful. Thanks in adavnce for your advice :)
1st Dash arriving soon 239 Pro with Telephoto.
I see in the instructuions/guidelines, they provide some sort of clear tape. I presume its a slightly lower tack file but larger surface area...before the dash cam VHB tape get's installed ?
Anyone have the front WS of their rear Windshield tinted. I do....
I'm thinking abut skipping this tape and putting the VHB on it direct. Come removal time, I suppose it may be the same (steam the exterior of the glass in the spot) and just fish line removal the VHB tape off the tinted glass
I’m doing some analysis on reddit data and looked at the most recommended dashcams in the past year. Thought I’d share the results here.
Methodology: I searched reddit for discussions on dashcams across all subreddits. I scoped the search to posts made within the past year for freshness. I found 132 relevant threads and used LLMs to analyze, extract, and categorize opinions from the 2,667 comments. I also extracted info about the dashcams being referred to and used that info to lookup the models on Amazon. Unfortunately for now the list only shows models available on Amazon (for simplicity’s sake). I then sorted the models by number of users with positive sentiment.
Caveat: handling and merging different descriptions, models, abbreviations etc is non trivial, so the its not 100% accurate. It seems to be mostly right from eyeballing though?
Let me know if you spot anything wrong. Or surprising.
I’m aware there is already a fairly comprehensive sticky listing the various dashcams options out there (https://www.reddit.com/r/dashcams/comments/1dl4on6/updated_list_of_dashcams_from_viofo_a119_vs_a129/). But I thought this could be helpful / interesting since it helps paint a picture of which are the most tried and tested models.
I even pulled the footage at first just to see if I screwed up somehow. Maybe I ran a stop sign, or a red light I didn't notice. Nope. Just had a near collision with a dumbass.
Show me I'll show you.
dude saw my slow ass toyota was gonna pass him and started tweakin 😂😂
I imagine this question has been asked many times but I was struggling to find anything when I searched. I have used the hardwire kit for the VIofo A129. When I turn the vehicle off and the camera enters parking mode, is it correct that the REC LED flashes continuously or should it be turning off completely?
Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.
I'm shopping around for a 4k dash cam and noticed this company is having an anniversary sale.
IThe X5 is a 3CH 4k dash cam with Starvis 2 sensor + 2.5k rear cam.
Cabin cam only 1080p but I dont care much about that.
- Does anyone know if the rear is Starvis 2? (like Viofos A229 series)
- is Wolfbox reputable? I know made in China..
- does anyone have this X5 product?
