“Nah, you’re alright Mum. I will just play dead instead”

How do you know the place you are getting your new wiener friend from is a “good” place? I jumped the gun and put down a deposit on puppy 3.5 hours away without much thought as we got our first dog from her 7 years ago. He ended up with IVDD at age 5 and passed away from complications. I never thought it had anything to do with the breeder…until I noticed the strange comments/behaviors from our messages. First, she keeps switching the name of the dog. I’ve asked for clarification multiple times and she always says it’s her confusion and apologizes. Then, I asked for pictures of mom and dad because I’m curious what they looked like. She said they don’t share those pictures because people steal the photos to use for scams. Then, she tells me she’s 6 weeks old today and she forgot to mention that her mom rejected her and she’s been hand raising her. I have concerns. So many concerns. So I google. And now I think I’ve put a deposit on a puppy mill puppy and I’m sick to my stomach. What do I do? My deposit was $500 and not refundable. I am expected to pay another $500 when we pick her up. Do I pick her up and get pet insurance and hope for the best? Eat the $500 and save the possible pain and heartache of another unhealthy dog? I’m so so sad.
