(long haired) ears aren’t growing 🥲

My adorable Loulou’s ears aren’t growing long and fluffy like the other long haired dachs I know who are around the same age. (He turned 1yo in September) His tail and the rest of his body is quite fluffy though. Why aren’t his ears growing? I read that ears and tail grow first. Has anyone been in the same situation ? Will he keep his puppy ears forever ? He’s adorable and I love his puppy ears, but I’m quite worried as well that they’re still so short haired. Also we live in a rather hot and dry climate, I read that it could affect hair growth as well…

Another update on Lacey after her passing / kinda questions for someone who may understand vet med bc I don’t

So I got to talk to one of the vets that was with Lacey while she was at the ER vet — they are saying that her passing wasn’t to do with a surgery being done wrong, but because of a underlying condition she may of had. And I don’t know much about vet med or anything — so maybe some of you can help me understand? This is no hate to the vets that worked on her or anything, I’m just really trying to understand how this all happened. From my understanding, when a dog has a foreign body in their stomach, though surgery can have complications, the complications of keeping it in there surpasses the complications of surgery.

When I first brought her into the vet — it was 36 hrs after she hadn’t ate anything, then they wanted to monitor her for 24 hrs with barium, after that time passed, they wanted to monitor her for a another 24 hrs (we ended up bringing her home the 2nd 24 hrs bc we said we could monitor her at home) surgery wasn’t really mentioned or pushed, because if it was, we would’ve don’t it we didn’t understand why they just monitoring her, but we’re (my partner and I) not vets so we were listening to them. So after we brought her home (not even a full 24 hrs later, it was like 14 hrs later we brought her back for the checkup they suggested), it was then that they were like “it’s been 40 hrs, the barium hasn’t passed, we would like to do surgery” so I said okay, go ahead and do surgery. They were supposed to do surgery that night, I didn’t get a call until 6am the next day that they were going to do surgery. So at this point it had been almost 90 hrs that she hasn’t eaten, that’s about 4 days. They had her in IVs, but she wasn’t getting food (that I’m aware of) bc normally they put that on the itemized bill — when we brought her home for the 24 hr monitoring they sent us home with food she didn’t eat, but it was put on the bill. So after the surgery she was sent home the day after — then had a 5 day follow up appointment, they checked her over said everything is fine.

We went home, then another 5 days pass and we brought her back because something seemed wrong, they did tests, her proteins were low, despite that she was eating, and all of her bloodwork was super bad. They’re saying that these were not due to compilations with the first surgery — however, when bloodwork was done when we first brought her in when she wasn’t eating the first time, everything was fine. They didn’t mention proteins being low & didn’t mention anything about the bloodwork not being normal. Now after the second surgery that she passed away from, they’re trying to say that she may have had leaky gut syndrome or some sort of malabsorption nutrition deficiency of some sort — but I don’t understand because wouldn’t that have been caught with blood work the first go around?

Could those things have been caused by the lack of eating for 90+ hrs? I don’t get it, are the vets trying to not take responsibility for what happened, or does this just seem like an abnormal case? Like I said I’m not trying to shame the vets that worked on her or anything, I’m just trying to understand. Before Lacey ate part of a blanket she couldn’t pass, she was a healthy dog, eating, drinking, playing, nothing seemed out of the ordinary until she couldn’t pass that blanket.
