So as of this week, my 2011 Chevy Cruze has started acting up a lot. It started getting weird on Tuesday when I was on my way home from work and my car died at the intersection at the top of a hill near my house. Turned on the hazards and put it into park before turning it off, turning it back on and it was fine for a while after that. Took it to the store and it refused to start. The engine rumbled a lot and died again. Even with a jump it didn't stay on at all. We towed it to the nearest shop and they couldn't figure it out. No codes came back and the check engine light never turned on. They kept it overnight with a fuel gauge in it and it worked just fine for about a day afterwards until it died again going up a hill.
Same thing as before. Took it back to the shop and they kept it for 2 days and only got it to act up for them once. I've looked all over the place it could be like 8 different things going on. This morning I got a call from the shop and they managed to get it to die completely by accident after about 30-45 minutes of it being on. They tried it again and it died again. They replaced the ignition coil I believe and it still died(It's not the battery because when it dies all the light and everything stays on just fine). They are stumped and so am I.
I just paid $1k for oil gasket housing replacement and seal for oil leak & coolant leak… Mechanic says it passed coolant pressure test, but every morning since i got the car back a week ago the coolant in the reservoir has been getting lower and lower… this is the only wet spot i could find & its right under sum hose they put a heat resistant on
So I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze 1.4L at 92k. P0299 code. I was quoted 1300 at a shop for a reman turbo replacement and a new set of oil/coolant lines since mine are corroded (east coast car). I have a friend from work who is willing to do the replacement for me if I get the part & the lines.
This guy is mechanically inclined, works on his own vehicles, and has done some pretty big jobs for others. I do believe he will be able to do it.
Now the question is: should I? Are there a lot of problems associated with the turbo replacement? If it’s a pain, I may just bite the bullet and take to the garage to spare us the headache. Also, turbos are everywhere online for a myriad of prices. Can anyone recommend me one at a decent price that’s not going to fail again as quick as the first one? Also, same with a line kit?
TIA!
I have a 2014 Cruze RS manual. I’ll admit I’m fairly new to driving stick but I’m pretty confident to get wherever I’m going.
My issue(?) is that when going up a hill in 5th or 6th and slightly losing speed the car will start revving up in what seems like a controlled manner to maintain power with only my foot on the gas and nothing else.(I know I’m supposed to downshift).
Is this just a feature to maintain speed/prevent stalling on hills or is something wrong?
My 2012 hatchback fogs really badly during winter time inside on windows. Have to have the blower on windshield on whole time to not fog up but side windows and especially rear side windows fog up and then freeze inside during winter. What is causing this? Cabin airfilter has been changed.
Time has come to say goodbye to my third and final Cruze, bought new in 15 with the 1.4 and she’s treated me well, other then a coil pack, axle and wheel bearing I haven’t had any issues, just about at 70k and hate to do it but thinking about a new civic, dealer giving me 6k for it so I’m happy since I paid 22k back in 15. The old girl has served me well. Enjoyed reading so much about these cars here over the last 2 years and wishing Chevy would have continued production.
My 2012 1.4l turbo coolant lines are all swelled, from some research I found it's because they absorbed oil. Is there a place that sells all the lines and hoses together? Or am I gonna have to buy them individually? Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance
I currently have 6 fittings available. These remove the last fragile piece of plastic from thr cooling system They have a double O ring upgrade and I have 110,000 miles on mine without issue. Many owners have these now with zero failures in the field. Note the double O ring upgrade compared to the original.
They go for $37 including shipping within the USA.. Send me a chat if you would like one.
Chevy Cruze 2011 1.8. I have the P0303 code, it seems so stutter sometimes while driving some hesitation while accelerating especially uphill seems fine while in idle and low speeds. What could it be?
We are going to look at a 2017 Chevy Cruze tomorrow, 70k miles.
What issues have you had with your Chevy Cruze? Anyone have a 2017 year model and have had more than 100k miles on it? What issues have you had (if any)?
Just seeing what likely expenses and issues to plan for are.
Any advice will be helpful!
Update - we purchased it!
driving around today and everytime i start my car it says "open and shut driver window"? i didn't open my window at all and also just had numerous issues w my car just fixed
Has about 70,000 miles on it. Since July 2023, I’ve had 15 check engine lights. I have replaced *thermostat *intake manifold and cover *starter (twice) *battery and the connectors (bad erosion) *sparkplugs *coolant tank and a couple hoses connected to it *purge valve (twice) first time was by a relative and the 2nd one by Chevy Dealer. This literally got changed about 3 hours ago.
The latest check engine light popped up about 3 weeks ago. I was having issues with car hesitating while accelerating. Had the code P0171. Sometimes it would be a little shaky as well. 2 mechanics have told me it was the purge valve. Thankfully it was a recall and they replaced it for free.
Couple hours after I got my car from the shop and when I went to accelerate (while merging into traffic) it stalled and then finally took off BUT there’s no check engine light for it. Any suggestions what it could be. It’s Friday evening and I’ll have to wait till next week to call the mechanic again-unless it’s something that hopefully can be fixed at home. Just had my oil changed a few days ago. Not sure if that makes any difference but the hesitating while accelerating was happening BEFORE. Just seems to be worse now.
Hii guys…i own cruze 2012 2.0 diesel type 1 5 speed manual…..couple days i have started feeling like the pickup is little lower than previous. The turbo is kicking at 1800 rom i can feel that but pull which car used to give from 2000 is now little lesser….i not sure what is the real issue. The only point which doubts me is bad diesel. I’m not sure but when j refuelled the problem started.
Things will be doing checking or replacing
Diesel filter (bought this jn june 8 took for service but didnt changed the diesel filter also not sure when the last filtered change)
Will clean the maf sensor and map sensor
Cleaning air filter
will use injector cleaner and engine oil treatment
If anybody have any idea or knows what is the real problem please do reply will appreciate it
Winter came with some leakage. Mechanic says that it’s a lot of work and money to fix the leak and not really worth it unless I want to change the transmission on the go. Basically ignore the leak and move on. What do you guys think? Also oil level sensor leaks a bit which is also hard to reach.
Just bought the PCV kit from cruzekits, I have spare thermostat and cooling inlet housings because reasons.
Should I put a turbo on the shelf as well or just go about replacing it? IIRC 186k on it right now. Got an underboost code while on a road trip a while back but it has since disappeared.
Just looking at engine checking fluids and what not. Noticed dirty residue on engine not too much but it’s just along front of engine, wiped it with fingers seemed little moist and definitely somewhat dirt as well is it normal for that to build up an simply wipe it off or should I be concerned with leak?
So basically what’s happening is i’ll turn my car off fully and randomly the left rear window starts rolling down without me pressing anything, i can still roll it back up but it just goes down randomly, any solutions to the issue
Thanks in advance
I'm wondering what would be the best option. As in flush, or drain and monitor the amount that comes out and refill?
Your choice to get in now
I’ve got a 2016 gen 2 6 speed Cruze RS sedan and I was looking at doing a wood grain trim kit for it, but I’m not finding any kits that explicitly list the piece around the shifter for the manual, all I’m seeing are kits with the auto shifter style like the one in the picture. Has anybody had any experience/luck with this kinda thing before?
I recently bought a black bowtie for my steering wheel, and I’m trying to figure out how to remove the gold bowtie and replace it with the new black one. I’m nervous to try and pop it off with a flathead or something, because I’m scared it might be vital to the airbag or something. I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s glued on, and a whole bunch more saying that it’s not and I have to just stick the black emblem over it. Can anyone give me some assistance with this?
Not normally on car reddit but saw this one and thought y'all might enjoy this my 2017 Cruze I got new with 12 miles on it now at 305k and it's only had spark plugs and 1 set of new injectors I drive it 186 miles a day
Sounds like grinding metal, 2017 auto, in park. Also happens in neutral under low revs around 1.3k-2k rpm
My battery has never died before. I keep my lights on auto and make sure all accessories are off every time I leave. About an hour ago I got into my vehicle (2013 LS) and tried to start it. Normally, I don't hold the key in the ignition position, but turn it once quickly (I've been calling this "touch starting"; I don't know if anyone else calls it this). This time, however, the engine didn't crank, but made a very brief click. My hands twitch sometimes, and I believe I only turned the key for maybe a quarter of a second.
After that the engine refused to crank. Some very kind people tried to help me jump-start my vehicle, but it just clicked the starter like it was dead. When the instrument cluster lit up, I got all sorts of warnings: service theft deterrent; service StabiliTrak; service power steering; service traction control. Also, I keep the HUD on the screen that displays MPH and MPG, but when trying to start it had gone back to the default screen. How could this have happened, and do I need to replace my battery?
