We're not supposed to feed the wildlife?
I really enjoy birdwatching and surely benefit from feeders that neighbors around me have. That said, I always thought feeding wildlife was objectively bad because it habituates them to humans, reduces hunting/foraging drive etc.
Is this not the case? No shade, genuine curiosity!
Hello there!
I know magpies aren't crows, but they surely are from the same family.
I live in Denmark where many people see the magpies as vermin because they eat eggs from other birds. I for one am fascinated by the intelligence they possess and therefore their shyness...
Two of them frequent the neighborhood and sometimes my garden and I'd love to get them to trust me enough for me to leave food out where they will find it and will eat it.
Of course I'd love for nothing more than for them to end up trusting me enough to let me look more at them (in the long run), because right now they flee at the sight of me.
Anybody got any tips?
I have a pretty big garden, surrounding my house and I have a huge, rat-safe bird feeding station, if that makes a difference.
My wife wants to treat the crows near our house like friends (I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to as well), but we're not sure if time of day, and weather would play into them noticing and partaking in our treats for them. It's around 6 pm so it's dark out, and it's raining, so she's not sure if it would be better or worse to wait until tomorrow, during the day, to put it out for them.
i read that both squirrels and crows like corn tortillas…i got three and cut them up in small squares and tossed them near where i toss the peanuts…NO INTEREST!
I was thinking i could walk to one specific area and schedule to feed them, but I was wondering- if I started doing this and walked home after (this area I’m thinking I could possibly use is not too far from home), would they follow me, and if they did, would they cause a ruckus? Id be in so much trouble for it if I did because it would definitely disturb the neighbourhood.
So it’s almost been a week since I fed crows and they haven’t come back. Is this a good sign or a bad sign?
There have been 100s if not 1000s of crows taking over my apartment building. We’re backed up to a small wooded area and for the past week every night they’re going absolutely ape shit crazy. They’re pounding on the roof for hours and through the night and will fly back and forth from the trees to the roof making insane sounds (think hurricane). They leave in the morning but come back around dusk. Do they ever sleep?!? I know nothing about crows but it’s driving us crazy. It sounds like someone hammering or hail when they’re at it. What can we do?! Will they ever leave? It’s been a week so far and we don’t know how much more we can handle!
