An action-oriented subreddit highlighting the active measures being taken to combat/mitigate and or adapt to climate change. Topics include but are not limited to: emissions reduction activities, carbon capture technology, research and development. renewable and nuclear power plants coming online, fossil plants being demolished, laws being passed, and any other actions that are currently happening to preserve our livable climate.

r/ClimateActionPlan is a news based subreddit for updates on the fight against climate change in the areas of mitigation, reversal, and adaptation. Not political proposals or rallies

Right now scientists and activists around the world are working to create a brighter future for humanity. We already have the technology to ensure that we can adapt to this changing world. Whether it's portable hydroponic farms to desalination plants, we have the tech to ensure that humanity will have food and water in even the most inhospitable conditions. The fight to reducing emissions is also gaining more momentum each year from the expansion to nuclear/reneables to direct air carbon capture plants coming online.

Remember: It will get worse before it gets better, but it will get better. Do not lose hope, we've got this.

Rules:

  1. All submissions must clearly relate to news on climate action, not proposed action (bills signed into law are allowed.) This may include R&D.

  2. Do not attack other redditors on here even if they are making a fool of themselves. This and trolling can result in bans.

  3. No discussion posts or self promotion without the approval of a moderator. There is a weekly discussion thread that is posted by the AutoModerator that you may freely discuss in.

  4. Do not submit vague titles or generalized posts. Please try to stick to the original story's title unless you simplify it

  5. No posting sensationalist, anti-humanity, doomsday, or defeatist misinformation.

  6. Climate change denial and posting of deliberate misinformation is a permanent ban.

With some exceptions, you will not be permabanned unless you go out of your way to achieve it.

Please be advised that there will be scammers trying to prey on those on this subreddit for money along with deliberate clickbait articles from self promoting bots. Posts may leak through the cracks that violate the rules, especially those that are of political proposals or "feel good" articles that aren't about an instance of direct action.

Books/publication recommendations about how corporate interests hid the truth?

Hi, I am particularly interested on the subject of how corporate entities are responsible for lies and disinformation campaigns on the effects of carbon emissions for the last several decades. If anyone has any recs or papers/publications they would recommend for this, it would be appreciated. Thank you!

From Bill Clinton to now: Progress on phasing out toxic chrome plating?

Just found out Bill Clinton tried to get rid of toxic chrome plating back in the 90s. It's wild to think we're still dealing with this stuff today. Has anyone heard of any green alternatives that have come up since then? Chrome is realllllly something to get rid of. Any thoughts on alternatives guys?

Bill Clinton signing Executive Order 12856 to reduce the use of toxic chemicals, including hexavalent chromium used in chrome plating.

Carbon offsetting question for research

Hi,

I am a philosopher, currently working on a paper about OVERCONSUMPTION (of the super-rich and the upper middle class).

There's something I'm not getting, though. It is, in principle, possible, to offset carbon emissions. I understand this comes with it's own problems (verifiability being one, a kind of new colonialism being another). One of the biggest one, in my mind, seems to be: If I offset carbon emissions by planting trees, these will die and rot eventually, so it kinda just pushes the problem forward a few generations.

But still, what I am unable to verify one way or the other: Would it or wouldn't it be possible to offset any and all "(over)consumption"? Basically, could we not offset *every* emission of *every* product? That would make them much more expensive and thus this would not be embraced by consumers, sure. I am just trying to figure out if it where possible or not.

Either way, what I am looking for are scientific sources, not just opinions. I am assuming, if this where (technically) possible, it would be a valid "ClimateActionPlan", so somebody here would know. And vice versa, if this is not actionable, for whatever reason, someone here might know.

Thank you very much for your help! Ulrich
