Fuller Crossover Mania

Georgia Lass is walking down the street with the spirit of a recently deceased man explaining, once again, that while it is time to move on she doesn't know what comes next. Given his Star Fleet uniform she wouldn't be shocked if the great-whatever took the form of the USS Enterprise though. She explains this all with compassion but it is clear that this is very familiar territory to her. She has been doing this every day for going on two decade now and the reapers who showed her the ropes when she first joined the ranks of the undead have all hit their quotas, save Mason. At this point she feels like she has seen and done everything there is to see and do as a grim reaper. Therefore, it takes her by complete surprise when the soul she is escorting simply vanishes. The soul didn't move on, George know what that looks like. No, this soul simply vanished. Even stranger, as soon as the red shirt's soul vanished Georgia is addressed by an unhinged looking lady who knows her by name, Geroge.

The off-kilter woman explains, in a single breath, that she has been instructed to "take her to the body". At this point she confusingly display a robot action figure's head, sans body, that has a short threaded rod for a neck as if this helps explain things. Within the same breath the woman continues, that they have to hustle as there is apparently a time constraint and grabs Georgia's arm. As she beings to duck walk Georgia back to the bushes that contain the body of the soul she just reaped the woman finally take a breath. Before she even finishes exhaling though she adds "Ohh, my name is Jaye by the way, I just escape from a mental ward, nice to meet you."

Georgia, propelled by the disheveled Jaye, bursts through the brush and sees the impossible. The soul she has just reaped, not 40 seconds ago, is back in its body, sitting up and having a conversation; despite the fact that his neck has been slit and most of his blood is now soaked into his uniform. He is mid-word when the sudden arrival of George and Jaye startle thr re-souled bodies conversation partners, a tall lanky man and a quirky looking woman. Reflexively the man, who had been squatting, jerks and in doing so touches the trekkie. The instant the two men make contact the Star Trek fan lifelessly flops over, dead again. The lanky man lets out something somewhere between a groan and a sigh while the quirky woman bemoans "and he was just about to tell us who did it".

Immediately after the body is once more a body, George is surprised for the fourth time in under a minute. The man's soul is once again by her side. He seems to be just as startled as she is but before she can even begin to process what is happening he recovers and asks if she could finish telling Ned and Chuck who killed him. Meanwhile, Jaye is holding the mechanical man's head up to her ear and nodding along to something that no one else can hear but to her sounds remarkably like Paul Giamatti giving her instructions, "tell them she knows". She gives an affirmative nod and is the first to break the silence that had settled over this strange foursome. Clearing her throat she gestures to Ned and Chuck and informs them that George as a message for them.

Befuddled, George turns to Jaye and indicating to the reaped soul asks "you can see him?" but alas none of the other three can she anyone where she is pointing. "What?" asks Ned while chuck simultaneously inquires "Who?". Jaye shakes her head no and instead explains that she can't see anyone but that the Amazing Screw On Head told her that George had a message. "Who?" interjects Ned while at the same time Chuck demands "What?".

Stupefied and confused George is shocked to feel her mouth open and do something she hasn't done in a very long time, pass on a message from the recently deceased to the living. "He says he was murdered by his psychiatrist" she announces, "Dr. Hannibal Lecter". A silence temporarily settles over the group again before Ned start to rise and Chuck squeals "I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!"

What influences Bryan Fuller's writing?

I tried contacting Bryan Fuller on Instagram once, not expecting my message to get to him... Which it didn't.

I tried to ask what types of reading material he would recommend to broaden my writing abilities. One's vocabulary is often influenced by the people around us but also through the books, film and media we consume. When I watched Hannibal I was blown away by the script even though most of the lines between Hannibal and Will went over my head.

They'd say something and I'd just nod and think to myself, "Sounds smart... They said a smart person thing."

I'd love to be able to write with even a fifth of Fuller's dialogue writing talents.

I was trying to ask him what books and authors influence him as well as what films and television inspire him so that I can 'study' them as well without having to resort to frequently reading a dictionary... Which would be boring.

Has Bryan ever mentioned any books or influences in an interview or post etc?

Thanks!
