This subreddit is dedicated to the television series American Gods on Starz and the book series it is based on by Neil Gaiman. The TV series is developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green.
Starz's American Gods is based on the Hugo and Nebula award-winning novel of the same name written by Neil Gaiman.
Gods and myths are given form as people believe in them, but what happens when the new gods of technology and modern society replace them? A secret war is coming.

Certain youtube videos might be posted twice. That's done because a lot of trailers and promo's are region locked. We try to pin links that work everywhere but sometimes certain videos are only available in the US, requiring someone else to post a version that works outside of the US.

I just watched the third season but I don't know where to start in the novel. Can someone help? Thanks
When i watched years ago for the first time it was suspicious but when i actually gained some deeper biblical knowledge this conclusion is kinda obvious. You may be believer or not but biblical antichrist works through power of our "world"- where world represents something like opposition to Heavenly Kingdom... Similar thing in the show- when we compare how old gods have religious-faith based background while mr. World represents everything from Big brother to high technology but its actually embodiment/ physical manifestation of entire world nowadays- very bad one.
That is the same reason why Christ spoke about world as of a living thing/creature more than simply planet Earth/place. Meaning is much much deeper, google and see for yourself (how is "world" mentioned in the Bible), you may be surprised.
There is even sentence that says that Satan is "god" of this "World": 2 Corinthians 4:4
Sorry if i unintentionally repeated conclusion ,it is just too relatable to be coincidence.
I feel like they wasted so many potential... no fast food/porn god or something? what other new gods could exist?
I rlly love American gods (the book and show) as well as Percy Jackson bc of the way they show a wide variety of sides of America / American mythology (like from all cultures within it), and I love the road trip aspect and learning about random parts of the US. Wondering if there are shows with similar motifs / themes that yall would recommend? preferably less so for kids and more so for an adult audience?
Edit: the mythology isn’t a necessity - more so the emphasis on all the different cultures that make up “Americana”
Try Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. I love American Gods and just read Kafka on the Shore it it reminds me of American Gods. An average person on a journey across the country with lots of strange companions and mysteries unfolding all open to interpretation.
How do you imagine in the world of American Gods a god dedicated to fast food addiction? Do you imagine him as an average consumer or a generic mascot?
I can't be the only one. Watched all the way through twice. Bought the book out of frustration of not knowing how it ended then watched again.
Basically I'm disappointed by the book. It's the first time I've watched and read and found the TV series to have more depth of character than the book.
TV Laura is more interesting than book Laura. TV Wednesday has more depth than book Wednesday. Shadow doesn't even compare.
I'm not surprised they pulled the plug the end of the book was underwhelming even TV couldn't save it.
I love watching a show or movie then going to the book to squeeze out the extra details but there's nothing extra there.
Tell I'm wrong
Does anyone know where i can watch this show? I started it a few years ago but never finished and now i cant find it anywhere! Please HELP
I don't have any streaming platforms because I'm #broke but I am cosplaying as Mr. Jacquel for Halloween this year buttt I wanna start watching the series this year ‼️💥💥
(Edit: at this point I'mma ask my Mom for hulu I give up 😔✌️)
Just finished it and all I'm feeling is nauseous, frustrated and angry. Feels like I just got off a high. Nothing makes sense!!!!!!!!!! I want to scream!!!!!!!!!
FUCKKKKKKKKKKK
Why are there repeating lines or word in the same sentence? Specific examples is the line Laura says to Audrey in the bathroom about embarrassing circumstances, slave worship to Anansi, Bilquis first victims worship to her, etc
Is it in the book?
Why
Any update on season 4??
I was revisitating old post to see how people reacted in the prime Season and this new interpratation from this post in Season One of Bilquis for me is very interesting and I wanna know your opinions: "I took the negative connotation from people being taken away from the world and their families because some sex goddess decided that she could induce people into a religious experience so strong that they couldnt reject her once they started." P.S: Again, this was before the Season 3 plot Bilquis
I’m rewatching the show from the start and it’s bugging me because I don’t recall this ever being explained.
In season 7, episode 3, Chandler is wearing a long sleeved shirt with the text “Think snow” printed on it.
Season 7 was filmed sometime in 2000, and American Gods is written in 2001, but it still made me think - was ‘think snow’ a phrase even before Neil Gaiman threw it into my head to live rent-free?
From S1E1, literally in the first few minutes. Spit out my coffee when some dude chucks a sword and it flies put of the picture frame (black bar for wide-screen). Is this just an error or some kind of mindfuckery?
its mad dookie shoutout to anyone who managed to get past new mr world ("go high key with our messaging" did me in i loved mr world i cant do this) youre the real gods with strength like that
Does anyone have a good freeze frame of the pamphlet in the purgatory episode. I tried pausing on it but couldn't get it good enough and was wondering if anyone had already done this.
Thank you.
Did some digging after finding this show in yt shorts and it looks like all 3 seasons are still available to purchase in the apple TV app.
Edit: first episode was free, will need to buy seasons still 22$ each
I just finished the book (like 30 minutes ago) and I was really interested in the show, I saw it only had three seasons so I know it won’t cover all of the content but is it worth watching in the first place? I enjoyed the book so much I would rather avoid the show if it doesn’t do the book justice.
