Hi! I'm a senior from an international high school (non US-citizen), and for the longest time, Brown has been my dream school. And with Brown going need-blind for 2025 for international students, it cemented my decision where I'd be applying for ED. However, from what I see, the financial packages offered by Brown isn't that substantial (considering I'm an intl student with family income <100k usd) and students typically have to appeal (even then, the increase isn't too dramatic). Is it still advisable that I should ED Brown, or wait for RD such that I will have other financial packages from other schools to compare and consider as well?
Hi! I will be a college freshman in fall of 2025, and I am planning to apply to BrownU. My original plan was to major in Environmental Engineering and then see if I can minor in Computer Engineering. However, I have since realized that Brown does not offer minors. So, do you think it would be possible to double major in two different Engineering concentrations since there will be overlap in their courses/requirements, or is that a death sentence? (I am assuming it’s death sentence and not advised, but I thought I would ask anyway).
Also, some follow up questions:
If you advise against double concentrating, do you have any ideas of what I can do instead?
How are the engineering concentrations at Brown? Do you feel like they prepare you for a career in engineering? I’ve seen other people on this subreddit say that Brown’s engineering classes are more theoretical than practical. Can you guys give some insight into what that means exactly?
If so how much alcohol is involved?
Conversely, how much would you say frat membership will boost your career?
Max Willman played for Brown, spending 5 seasons scoring 17 goals and assisting on 34 goals for 51 points in 135 games.
Title. Am taking it with APMA courses and some CS courses, wondering if its really hard. its the standard mechanics + calculus physics class here

Prospective student here, i checked the website for all of them but i'm still kinda confused. Just as the title says, i want to take those and they're unrelated to what i want to concentrate in. I know there's the open curriculum but are there some kind of requirements for those classes or do you just sign up? (sorry if this is a bit confusing, college classes are a bit confusing to me) and is it hard to take those while meeting requirements to be able to declare your concentration?
Hello, anyone in the dorms that can measure the back of their desk for me?
i'm trying to get 2 measurements with the goal of attaching a c-clamp. i'm looking for dim x and y both vertical dimensions in back of desk. hopefully picture will help.
Hello! I'm a senior in high school trying to decide where to apply. I have multiple chronic conditions that would cause me to be unable to room with someone. I won't go into details but its severe enough that, despite people saying its important to have a roommate your Freshman year, I am confident that its not possible for me.
I've heard that (with a lot of paperwork) you can apply for a single with accommodations, but I had another question in addition to that. Are there floors with singles that have bathrooms that are single-use only? As in, you enter, lock the door, and then its just you? I have a medical reason for asking this.
Also, in the unlikely case I apply and then get accepted, apply for accommodations, then end up in a single, how much would my social life suffer? I would do my best to put myself out there.
Also also, if you're a chronically ill or physically disabled Brown student, how have you been treated? Is there an accommodations officer who will talk to professors if they don't accommodate you? And is the school generally a place where disabled students feel comfortable in terms of their classmates? Some people at the current school I go to stole my friend's cane and have fun laughing at me when I'm having a fainting spell. I'm not sure it could get much worse than that (at a college like Brown, at least), but I'd still like to ask.
Thank you for reading this, and I hope this doesn't sound too presumptuous. I'm not assuming I would get in, (the opposite, actually, since Brown is incredibly difficult to get into even if I have the grades), but if I do apply, I want to know in advance what it would be like. Thank you.
Posting from an alt for anonymity. I am a sports recruit who has received offers for both colleges, and before coming on my official visits I was convinced that Yale was for me. Instead, I fell in love with Brown.
My question is though, as an econ major, will my grad prospects be noticeably different between the two? Brown is one of the best universities in the world, but Yale is Yale.
Also, I’m relatively introverted - I like to go out but I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs. Will I be out of place at Brown?
Thank you!
has anyone taken biol1260/physiological pharmacology with professor John Marshall? I'm in it now and am a little anxious about the exams and course overall. it's a little difficult to hear what he's saying in lecture, and the slide decks are way oversaturated with info. are the textbook readings essential for course success? any other advice about the professor or course itself? pls help. thank you
Hey yall,
I’m a first yr and i am genuinely tweaking at how overwhelmed i’ve felt at the amount of reading i have to do (80-100 pages/wk). I hope to be an iapa concentrator but i’m confused as to how to do the readings and retain information at the same time to discuss in class.
I know and admit that i am a heavy procrastinator and i intend to change that, but i just want some genuine advice on how to manage all these readings while at the same time being able to afford to have a life with clubs and extracurriculars and just time to be human :’) thanks guys, i appreciate the help and advice!!
Hi everyone,
I hope all is well. I’m interested in Brown for undergrad, and I was curious if the Ivy Room’s smoothie bar offers granola, and, if so, if that granola contains nuts of any kind. I have an allergy, and I find that most granolas have nuts prepackaged - rather disappointing as granola is a top-23 food of mine.
This may be the deciding factor in whether or not I choose to ED to the school, but, if I do end up as a student, which I know isn’t likely, I hope to see you all there enjoying the Ivy Room’s mentioned hypothetical granola offerings. Thanks.
Let me at it!
Do I have to return digital materials to the bookstore if I shopped a class but decided not to take it?
Brown alum here.
I'm curious what the vibe is on campus right now among students. How do pro-divestment students feel their presentation went? Do students believe there is actually a chance that divestment will be recommended and subsequently approved? Is there a vocal/visible opposition?

There is a trend, prevalent among liberal college students, to quit organizations rather try to make their perspective prevail. If you "resign in protest," then you no longer matter and have no influence on future decisions. That approach leads to fewer organizations prioritizing your viewpoint.
It was interesting to see the same phenomenon by a supposedly more mature and conservative person, Brown trustee Joseph Edelman. He resigned today because he was opposed to a resolution before the trustees. A responsible trustee opposed to the resolution would make their case to the other trustees, then vote against the resolution.
Hi all, I'll be moving to Providence soon and I was trying to look for affordable grocery places near Brown.
There's a high chance I won't have a car and so I was wondering if there was any walkable (30min/2mile) affordable grocery stores near the university?
I come from the south so a grocery place like kroger would be amazing (kroger doesn't really exist up north)!
If there are none that are in walking distance, would it be worthwhile to get a bike or is the transit system good enough?
How’s the class? Workload? Would recommend taking? Current freshman trying to figure out my schedule for the semester!
TYI
hi, i'm a freshman taking BIOL0200, CHEM0330, and CLPS0450 and was wondering if the textbook readings are actually required to do well in the class, or if i can get away with just studying the lecture slides? upperclassmen have been telling me the textbook readings aren't required, but i'm not sure
