Let me at it!
Do I have to return digital materials to the bookstore if I shopped a class but decided not to take it?
Brown alum here.
I'm curious what the vibe is on campus right now among students. How do pro-divestment students feel their presentation went? Do students believe there is actually a chance that divestment will be recommended and subsequently approved? Is there a vocal/visible opposition?

There is a trend, prevalent among liberal college students, to quit organizations rather try to make their perspective prevail. If you "resign in protest," then you no longer matter and have no influence on future decisions. That approach leads to fewer organizations prioritizing your viewpoint.
It was interesting to see the same phenomenon by a supposedly more mature and conservative person, Brown trustee Joseph Edelman. He resigned today because he was opposed to a resolution before the trustees. A responsible trustee opposed to the resolution would make their case to the other trustees, then vote against the resolution.
Hi all, I'll be moving to Providence soon and I was trying to look for affordable grocery places near Brown.
There's a high chance I won't have a car and so I was wondering if there was any walkable (30min/2mile) affordable grocery stores near the university?
I come from the south so a grocery place like kroger would be amazing (kroger doesn't really exist up north)!
If there are none that are in walking distance, would it be worthwhile to get a bike or is the transit system good enough?
How’s the class? Workload? Would recommend taking? Current freshman trying to figure out my schedule for the semester!

hi, i'm a freshman taking BIOL0200, CHEM0330, and CLPS0450 and was wondering if the textbook readings are actually required to do well in the class, or if i can get away with just studying the lecture slides? upperclassmen have been telling me the textbook readings aren't required, but i'm not sure

Hi guys, I plan to apply ED to Brown and if I'm not mistaken, Brown is offering financial aid to the class of 2029, however the Brown website only has a link for FAFSA, which they state is only for US citizens and permanent residents. So I was wondering if there was a form for international students to fill out to apply. Thank you!
Feel free to share any gothic or old looking buildings you know at Brown, please. 🙏🏻
I can’t study at the sci li or other modern looking places.
So far, I only know Johnhay library.
I self-studied AP Calc BC last year and got a 5, but I do not feel very solid in the concepts. I am currently in Math 0350 since Math 0180 and Math 0200 filled up, but I am unsure if I should just go back and take Calc 2 to solidify my calculus knowledge. I am planning on concentrating in APMA-CS btw. My schedule is currently looking like this: CS0150, APMA 1650, Math 0350, and a Spanish class.
I'm an indecisive freshman who is considering taking 5 courses this semester.
Would taking CS15, ENGN30, APMA1650, Intro to international politics, and a first year seminar be manageable at all? or would I go crazy? (I'm pretty confident about taking CS15, APMA1650, and the FYS)
I would delay taking engn30 to next year, but someone told me that if you want to concentrate in engineering, its best to take it during freshman year. I'm not planning on doing an engn concentration, but I want to leave the option open.
Thoughts?
i was was looking at rankings and noticed that in some rankings it didn't even make it to T20, T10. why do you think this is the case? Brown's quality actually going down or just the way they rank being wrong?
I’ve always wanted to join a finance/consulting club to see if it’s the kind of thing I enjoy, although I have little knowledge of how it works going in. Does anyone have experience with the application and starting this kind of club?
did anyone shop CLPS 0110? what did u think of it?
If anyone is planning to drop MATH 0200 please let me know! I am planning to concentrate in Mechanical Engineering and this is one of my requirements.
I would be grateful if we could coordinate it! Thank you. DM me if you are planning to drop it please.
i'm a new masters student and i was wondering if there was an existing/active discord server for trans graduate students? i would love to connect with other trans grad students ^^
Hi I’m just wondering if anybody has heard back for engn 32 — typically when does he send out override codes?
looking for people to go skating with if anyone is interested send me a message. Thanks
im currently going into my senior year and brown is one of my top choices so i have a few q’s for the locals:
what are some deakbreakers abt brown? like if u could warn someone applying there abt something or multiple things, what would they be?
how is providence? i come from a big city and i am really greatful to live near my city’s downtown hotspot which is something i value so providence might be a big switch. would the switch be significant or is there still a vibrant downtown life?
is it worth it? the tuition’s high (esp. cuz im from canada) and im planning to take a bunch of ap’s this year so if the education/environment isn’t significantly better than an average uni should I even apply lol
thank yous so much <3
Students stepping into a new chapter! 🎒 As they walk through these doors, they're not just entering a classroom, but a world of opportunities, learning, and growth. Here's to the journey ahead and the memories yet to be made! 📚✨ Congrats students and parents!
What are the major facebook/groupme/etc groups to join?
I feel like they are mostly all dry
Hello everyone. I am a prospective transfer student, and Brown has always seemed to resonate most with what I look for in a university. I know generalizations like this can never be fully accurate, but it gives me the impression of a school that is full of intelligent and high achieving people, but is more down to earth and less “elitist” than other Ivy Leagues like Harvard perhaps. Is this a fairly accurate assumption?
My second and main question is about social life. The impression I’ve got is that Brown is the least “preppy” Ivy. I’m interested in being involved with a community of more philosophical, bohemian, eccentric types (for want of better terms). People who have a love for things like fine art/avant-garde and eastern mysticism. Just wondering if I would find a large community of these types at Brown?
Thanks for any help!

Thinking about taking Math 1530 this semester, and it is being offered by both Hashimoto or Jung.
Does anyone have any experience with either prof/ recs for choosing which one?
Any info is appreciated!
Hi everyone,
I’m not that familiar with the campus yet but I’m trying to find the best spots to read—comfortable chairs, benches, etc., with nice views and/or natural light, as quiet as possible. I have a huge stack of books I’m trying to get thru, but I struggle to read a lot without a nice, quiet spot I can return to.
Does anybody have any recommendations, indoor or outdoor? What (in your opinion) are the best spots around campus?
BTW—If you don’t want to post them publicly (which I understand), DM me!
Thank you!!
