New IGN Video Shows What Happens to Bloodstains Against a Boss (Possible Spoilers)

In the new gameplay video posted by IGN, a red spot on the ground with a faint vertical glow can be seen starting around the 0:50 mark. At 0:56 we can see a prompt saying "Acquire echoed blood," appear as the player character walks over the spot on the ground.

All that leads me to believe that when dying to a boss, bloodstains function exactly the same or at least very simuliar to how they functioned in the Souls games. I personally can see how having to defeat a boss to retrieve your souls could be frustrating, so I'm glad they chose to exclude bosses from the new system.

I've read that if you fall to your death it's still possible for an enemy to retrieve your bloodstain, but I hope it only happens when an enemy is on plain wight of where you fell so you don't have to spend too much time potentially just looking for the enemy with your blood echoes.

What does everybody think of all this?

Chalice Dungeons, Beasts and PvP(Possible Spoilers)

The Chalice Dungeons are said to be tied to the online aspect of this game, but other than sharing them via a ''Secret Word'', or inviting a buddy for Co-Op, I don't believe much else has been revealed regarding the Chalice Dungeons as an online-heavy feature.

Now beast transformations have been rumored for months, there was also a supposed leak back in September that claimed that you could play as a boss(just like Demons Souls), and now this brings me back to those Chalice Dungeons, they're randomly generated, which means different lay outs and encounters each time you play them and presumably- different bosses.

I believe it's possible that the bosses you fight in these dungeons are actually other players, it's their custom beast that they have made, thus achieving a different boss encounter every time you play through a Chalice Dungeon.

They did say that they will have ''unique customization options'' in this game and in my mind, this all seems to fit. I realize that I'm reaching pretty far here, and I could be 100% wrong, but it's fun to speculate :-)

Did anyone else notice in the new IBM first...

That with some of the bosses attacks, there was a very small hp regain window compared to normal? It looks like this is when he gets hit by the lightning(or looks like lightning) attacks.

Could this be different elements having effects other than just damage?

Edit: Damn mobile autocorrect.

Wait...oh no what about boss weapons?

Bosses, as we've seen so far in this game, don't appear to drop souls. Does that mean we don't have boss weapons?

Maybe they could rectify this by giving some of them tail cuts? Idk, I somehow don't think that's what they're doing.

Welp, I finally found something to probably maybe be disappointed about in this game. I mean, it doesn't damper my hype in the least, and the weapons we've seen look absolutely amazing (and didn't they say there will be fewer weapons because they are focusing on each one being unique for minimal overlap or something?), but still.

I think my biggest thing is I miss tail cuts. The only thing similar to that in Dark Souls 2 was Rottens arm, but...that was a pharros stone.... yeah no.

EDIT: NO, I DO NOT KNOW that there will not be boss weapons. I'm saying I'm worried that there won't, since I don't see how they would work without boss souls. Perhaps they would work differently? Maybe talk to an NPC who will just craft them for you without a soul, just based on the fact that you beat the boss and with only blood echoes? Tail cuts? What do you think?

Do you guys have any idea of how they work? Or do you think they just won't be in the game at all?

An idea about the boss shown in IGN´s video

So today i was hoping for some pvp info (dammit IGN!) but i ended up finding the old "beast mode" info from some time ago. I read that players could become bosses or something so i strated cooking in my mind. What if what we saw today was actually a foreshadow of pvp? What if we can become bosses and that is the new pvp? It des seem very plausible if we watch the beast attacks.

I already preordered the collectors edition but...

I wouldn't be able to play until 6pm after work. I am thinking about getting a digital copy for midnight playing and just juice up with caffeine at work. I have the money to do so, and my friend could play my physical copy until he gets his own.... What do you say reddit?

Bloodborne digital preload date will be March 22 for NA players

Screen cap from Twitter

I've seen quite a few posts asking the question of when the game will start to auto download. The game is playable at midnight on March 24 and the auto download will start on the 22nd. I've preloaded a couple games before (AC: Unity and Driveclub...) and they typically start downloading the afternoon 2 days before release.

We are looking at 3 weeks and two days before Bloodborne begins to take over our consoles.

I am really hyped for bloodborne and i made a mistake

So as of this moment i am a bit sad. A couple of days ago i misread the release date for bloodborne and only saw 25^th and skimmed over the bit that says march, and thought "Holy shit its out soon!!" so i went to the shops and bought a PS4 got it updated looking nice and pretty then hits the 25^th go into the store to grab myself a brand new copy of bloodborne only to realise it isnt out yet, so now i have a PS4 with transistor because its free lol

Anyway i have learnt a lesson to always read everything carefully when it comes to release dates now. Unless its GTAV on PC because they always change

Sony selling discounted new PS4s online.

I went to gamestop to buy a PS4 today and the clerk told me Sony was selling new PS4s through ebay for $360. It comes with 6 months of online , and a download for one of 4 games. So, anyone who's been holding out on getting their PS4 for Bloodborne, this might be a good time.

Who or what do you people wish to meet again in Bloodborne ?

As the title asks, what do you hope to see again in bloodborne in terms of characters, items, or enemies ?

Now for those who are new to the series with Bloodborne, or have not played that many From Software games, you might be wondering what I mean by this, but the veteran's likely already understand.

So, here are some examples.

The Crestfallen

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_crestfallen-warrior_2614.jpg

http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/square_small/12/120355/2283462-2283460-crestfallen_warrior.jpg

The sword of moonlight

http://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1395/63/1395637127106.jpg

And since someone likely noticed a certain name in that last screenshot, here is SEATH

http://i.imgur.com/TDi9EJ4.jpg

http://darksouls.wdfiles.com/local--files/bosses/seath-the-scaleless-large.jpg

Patches is a common character in their games.

http://demonssouls.wdfiles.com/local--files/npcs/patches-the-hyena-large.jpg

http://wallpaperest.com/wallpapers/acfa-patch-the-good-luck_077547.jpg

Now, we already know they are using " Frog Nation " for the voice acting, or at least I assume they are, so hopefully they will return to voice similar characters.

Oh, and just for kicks, here is Quelaag as well.

http://darksouls.wdfiles.com/local--files/bosses/chaos-witch-quelaag-large.jpg

And video footage was better for this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9_91uPvLyw

So, what dear old friends, enemies or items, do people wish to see a return from in Bloodborne ? There likely will be some, potentially neither of the ones listed here, though the sword of moonlight is extremely likely as it is in pretty much every game they have made, even Armored Core.

Edit :

One tradition I kinda forgot, From Software likes to put things that will one hit kill us at the start of their games.

The most evil is likely shadow tower 1, it starts you on a thin, VERY THIN, stone walkway, needless to say if you test the control for left or right you instantly die.

Same in kings field 4, just a little more hidden.

This is it

Tomorrow's the final day of IGN coverage. Probably not PVP, unfortunately. Any thoughts on the stretch until release? I hear there's another expo of some sort in mid March that will feature Bloodborne.

(Also, is Skelegram the actual name of the Bloodborne messages?)

Are you going to play through Bloodborne with someone the first time?

When I first played through Demon's Souls, my family household only had one PlayStation 3. I also didn't even know if it was going to be a good game or not, so the first 10 times through, I played it by myself. Then we got another PlayStation 3 a year later (we bought it cheap second-hand from a friend) because I was going off to college in a couple of months and wanted one of my own. So we bought another copy of Demon's Souls, and I played through the whole game with my little brother. However, I had been through the game 10 times already, so it wasn't exactly exciting as it could have been. I was basically guiding him through the game. It was still fun, but obviously the impact wasn't quite as great.

A year after this, Dark Souls came out. My little brother and I played through the whole game together, and it was a fantastic experience! I remember he decided to fight Gwyn and end the game before me (I wanted to collect a couple of things before going into New Game +, so I didn't finish until two days later), and I remember he came over to me smiling and said, "That was the best game ever." Those were his exact words, I remember. Nothing could beat that first playthrough.

Then Dark Souls 2 came out 2.5 years later, and because our Spring breaks didn't line up with each other, I went on without my little brother. He was busy with school and volleyball, and I wanted to make the most of having nothing else to do at the time. After beating the game seven times, I finally played through it with him, and he didn't enjoy it very much, I think in large part because the sense of discovery and difficulty was lost with me being there and knowing how to do and beat everything already.

Here comes Bloodborne, and we only have one PlayStation 4. I was thinking of buying another PlayStation 4 because I will eventually need one in the next couple of years when I finally move out of the house, but then I remember that the only reason I got a PlayStation 4 in the first place was because of Bloodborne! So that'd be two PlayStation 4s just for Bloodborne. But then I also remember that in a couple of years I will have to buy another one anyway as I move out of the house, so I'm thinking about what to do here. Nothing can ever beat the first playthrough, so I'm just stuck on what to do with this one...

Anyway, do any of you guys play through the Souls games with someone else? How much of it? The first playthrough, or later ones?

Thinking of buying digital, pros & cons?

I was thinking about just getting the game digitally rather than on disc, mostly because I'm lazy and getting to the gamestop nearby takes a long time and because of the pre-loading thing means I can play as soon as possible rather than make the drive to and back, and THEN have to wait for it to install.

Although, I'm wondering... From anyone who has bought full games completely digitally, what are the advantages and disadvantages of buying digital?

And I guess as a follow-up, does anybody know what the filesize for the game is? I feel like it was on the PS Store a while ago but isn't there now.

A look into the sales figures of the Souls series

EDIT 1: I have put it in bold, but just to clarify all sales figures are only for the US market unless otherwise stated. I apologize for the confusion.

EDIT 2: All figures are now in thousands, rather than millions. And from the searching I've done, it does not appear that VGChartz includes Steam.

In light of an earlier discussion about the financial potential of From Software's games, I decided to do a little research into the sales figures of their other games. And to speculate on what may be reasonable expectations for Bloodborne, based on history. All figures are from the website VGChartz. For the sake of brevity, I will be addressing figures in the United States, with other information where relevant.

As a reminder, these are units sold not cash.

Demon's Souls

Released on October 6, 2009 to almost no publicity or fanfare, it very quickly gained critical acclaim among western publications such as IGN, and maintains a 90% on GameRankings and 89/100 on Metacritic.

Originally unintended for a western release, it was picked up by Atlus, who brought it over to the United States. A significant reason for there being little promotion for Demon's Souls was the fact that the Atlus announcement happened in May 2009, and the game hit American shelves only five months later.

The game is a Sony exclusive for the PS3 and since its release has sold 930,000 units in the US. What is interesting to note is that figures were highest (nearly 266,000) in 2011 and in 2010 (roughly 247,000). The interesting part is that Demon's Souls became a Sony Greatest Hits title in September 2010, nearly a year after release and due to strong sales.

Sales tapered off significantly after 2010, unsurprising considering Dark Souls was released in October 2011 (August 2012 for PC).

Dark Souls

This is where things get interesting, because unlike its predecessor and unlike Bloodborne, Dark Souls had a cross-platform release. It was released to very similar acclaim, scoring an 88% on GameRankings (84% for PC) and 89/100 on Metacritic (PC: 85/100).

Having been given the benefit of a full production cycle, including advertisement and American localization from the start, the trend for Dark Souls is different than that of Demon's Souls. On PS3, it has sold 710,00 units in total, roughly 200,000 fewer than Demon's Souls. It had similar sales in year one (296,000), with it tapering off by 53% in 2012. However, sales were still strong through 2014 (94,000) due to the longevity of the game, for reasons including the Artorias of the Abyss DLC and the game's sequel: Dark Souls 2.

As I noted, it was a cross platform release. The first Souls game released for Microsoft was a success, selling 0.60 million units. This is 84% the amount of sales as the game did on PS3. Finally, the PC version was released in August 2012 to lukewarm reception, with the DSfix mod being all but considered a necessity. Unfortunately I could not find US sales figures but the European market was only 0.06M or 60,000.

In total, it would appear that the US market accounted for around 1.3-1.4 million sales cross-platform. Globally, the figures add up to around 3 million.

Dark Souls 2

Disclaimer: Keep in mind that these figures are after less than one year on the market, so they will be significantly lower than the other games' figures, which have been on the market for 3.5 years (Dark Souls) and 5.25 years (Demon's Souls).

Dark Souls 2 was the first game not to have Hidetaka Miyazaki as the director, having taken the role of supervisor. The stated reason behind this is his return to the role of director for Bloodborne, which has been in development since 2012.

Dark Souls 2 was the beneficiary of a much larger advertising campaign, one directed at the AAA gaming demographic much more than either of the previous games. This fueled some concern that the games were going to become easier or less complex in favor of targeting a more widespread market (opinions vary). I was unable to find a figure for how much was spent in the US for marketing, but Namco Bandai spend around one million pounds in the UK. It is reasonable to conclude that the equivalent amount ($1.54 million) or more was spent in the US, which has been a larger market for From's games.

Like Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 was released cross-platform on March 11, 2014. The PC version followed a little over a month later on April 24, 2014.

As of now, units sold between PS3 and Xbox 360 appear just about even. The PS3 version has sold 330,000 units, to 360's 320,000 units. The PC version has sold 30,000 units. This makes for a total of 680,000 in the US. The units sold in year one of the PS3 version Dark Souls 2 are consistent with year one of Dark Souls on the same system, and exceed them on Xbox 360.

A few trends that are of note: there is much more parity between the sales on PS3 and Xbox 360, the same with PS3 sales in the US and Japan. In fact, this is the first Souls game to sell better in Japan than the US on Sony's machine.

Critical reception was positive as other games, slightly more so. It holds an 88-89% on GameRankings and 91/100 on Metacritic. Fan response, however, is generally more divided.

What does this all mean?

Well, aside from a look into the sales history of the Souls series, all the data does give us an idea of what sales for the Sony-exclusive Bloodborne should be. Sony has a strong market share with the PS4, and while this is a guess, I think that the numbers with Bloodborne should be comparable with what has been seen in the past.

In its best year, Demon's Souls sold 266,000 units (213,000 in year one). Dark Souls sold 296,000 in its first year, and Dark Souls 2 sold 291,000. All of these figures are on PS3.

This all leads me to believe that US sales of around 275,000-300,000 units are probably very likely for Bloodborne in 2015. I hope some of you found this as interesting to read as I found it fun to make. If there are any additional figures you find, or mistakes, I'll edit as is appropriate.

Umbasa.

Bloodborne - Light of Day Trailer

Hey, /r/bloodbornethegame, what's up?

First things first, this is my first ever fan trailer. Here's the link for it. But ever since the first trailer officially released I was hoping for one with a Silent Comedy's song, since the Dark Souls ones were so fitting. That hasn't happened so far, and I just felt I needed to do something about it.

I hope you enjoy it, and please, leave some feedback as to what was done right and wrong, what could improve and just general opinions on it and the choice of song!

My Wife is Hyping Me for Bloodborne

The information IGN has released has gotten me hyped, but not as much as my wife. On a whim, she decided to try DaS2. This is her first Souls experience, and watching her stumble and struggle to learn the systems of the game has gotten me incredibly hyped for the release of Bloodborne. Seeing that tension of the unknown and that great release when you overcome is intoxicating. It is a feeling that Souls veterans chase, and Bloodborne is really the first opportunity since Dark Souls to get that feeling again, with it being an entirely new story, world, and being accompanied by new gameplay mechanics.

Until Bloodborne's release, I am vicariously experiencing it through watching my wife play. March 24th can’t come quickly enough.

I took two days off from work for the BB release!

It's gonna be great! It releases the 25th in the EU and that's on a Wednesday, my usual day off, then I also took Thursday and Friday.

That means that I have 5 full days to fully immersive myself with and experience Bloodborne!

Can't wait, time gotta go fast.

Anyone else who is free from work or school (however you're going to do that lol) at that time just for Bloodborne?

I literally cannot contain my excitement for Bloodborne

Hi fellow hunters, I seriously cannot begin to explain enough how excited I am for Bloodborne. I know some people like to talk about not getting too eager or overexcited for a game since we know as of lately, there have been a few disappointments to some but I trust the resourcefulness of From and the genius that is Miyazaki to bring to us a whole new level of entertainment and enthralling rich gameplay in Bloodborne. I'm happy to be apart of a community so invested in enjoying this, as it seems so far, a work of art. The atmosphere, the look, the trailers, the music, it all just fills me with this emotional need for this game and I really just can't wait to play through it with you all. I think the one thing I'm most excited to feel is that first time you enter a new area, new room, new boss, it fills you with such excitement and joy wondering what will I find next. I'd love to know what everyone else is most excited for.

I'd like to invite those of you that are crazy enough to try this on your first blind play through

For bloodborne i'd like you all to try :

Killing all npc's at sight for no reason without even talking to them, this applies for all merchants and blacksmiths too. No summoning, no co-op whatsoever not even to join other worlds to farm souls to level, no farming , no magic/alchemy or ranged wep use only pure melee. Imagine how painful this would be for all of us with this blessed experience. Thoughts?

(Unrelated my Demon souls experience first blind play through) Actually on my first play through of demon souls, that's what i did and i ended up having over 100s of hours just to finish my first play through (I didn't even know we could summon people) I had a +0 weapon the whole time i only switched weapons to random +0 weapons that i found and god i thought that's how the game was meant to be played. little did i know that i wasn't supposed to kill the king with a +0 sword. Oh did i mention i was using heavy armor too the whole time lol. you could imagine my painful long experience. but it was seriously something that i've never tasted in a game before and it's truly a masterpiece. No other game came even close to what i've experienced on demon souls. I loved it, every moment was just fascinating. I was like what is this glorious unique taste of a game. I can't get enough. I think i spent an average of 7~14 hours per level/boss due to low damage ungraded weps

(Unrelated my Darksouls1/2 experience first blind play through) As for Dark souls 1/2 my first play through I put a rule where I would level up only using half of my souls every time i touch a bonfire. As a result i was always low leveled wherever i went. And of course i never summoned anyone either. Or never used any magic/faith spells. Although i did collect them. But i did use them later on newgame+ or so.

I have a feeling "insight" will be very useful in online modes

It is safe to say that exploring the world of Bloodborne with your friends and just random people will be a massive part of this game. Basically when you're about to summon someone, you'll be able to see his "insight" stats which will tell you how experienced the player is as in how many areas, bosses and enemies he has seen. Also before fighting a certain boss, you'll need to have a certain "insight" level. I think this feature will work as your rank, your general awareness about areas, bosses, etc....
