"Justice Matters Most" Case 2: Daniel Wormald

Here is another case I have been wondering would have been handled by an ethical lawyer? Or would only Jimmy's tactics be able to pull his behind out of the fryer? I imagine what makes Jimmy McGill rather effective at his job is not because of his knowledge of the law (that's his brother's skill) but because he would do anything to get you off the hook? Regardless of whether it's legal or not, all that matters is you don't get caught.

Wonder what an ethical lawyer would have done with this case.

    Daniel Wormald

So Daniel Wormald has been stealing pills from the company he works at and selling them on the side to people like Nacho Varga. It seems to be going well with Mike as his bodyguard (and supervisor). But then Daniel decides to use his ill-gotten wealth to buy a flashy Hummer that is bound to attract lots of attention and then fires Mike when he has a problem with that. This leaves him open for Nacho to find out information about where he lives and robs his apartment, stealing everything from his drugs to his money to even his baseball cards.

Now usually criminals don't call the police when there is a problem because there is the risk of their own crimes getting exposed in the investigation. But Daniel is not like other criminals which is why he does exactly that. And apparently he didn't think the police would notice that Hummer he definitely cannot afford on an IT's salary or an big conspicious space revealing a hiding spot that could be hiding a huge load of cash or something.

Now let's suppose Daniel Wormald is given a defense attorney to speak on his behalf. Just how much is the client allowed to share with the lawyer? And how far does Attorney-Client Confidentiality extend as Saul Goodman likes to assure his clients with.

I mean Jimmy McGill was only able to get Wormald off the charges by claiming that his client was actually doing Squat Cobbler Videos. Now that seems clever but that is forging evidence which is highly illegal. And also incredibly degrading for his client.

Legally speaking, just what kind of advice would a lawyer of Daniel Wormald have to offer for his client if he found out what he was involved in? And what would be the repercussions of him following said advice be for everyone else involved in the case such as Mike and Nacho?

Jimmy & Kim are one of the most realistic portrayals of a couple ever I think. Even though the circumstances around them are insane. Their emotions and reactions are so human and believable.

Both wonderful actors of course which goes a long way. But man, just the subtleties in body language and facial expressions when they’re disappointed in one another, or want to express something but can’t for one reason or another. When they’re really genuinely proud of the other. It all comes though without words. It’s a comfortable, lived in relationship. And I think anybody who’s been a long(ish) term relationship, at least a couple of years it’s super believable that they’re together. Together and love each other very much.

"Justice Matters Most" Case 1: The Kettlemans

Hello everyone. Wow, it has been 10 years since the start of Better Call Saul. Decided I wanted to do something special as a commemoration for the show.

So I was wondering if becoming Saul Goodman was the only way possible for Jimmy McGill. Or is there another way for Jimmy McGill to rise beyond being Slippin' Jimmy. What would any lawyer have done in his shoes? Was Saul Goodman born out of necessity? Or out of choice? What do you decide?

    The Kettlemans

So in the beginning of the show, Jimmy McGill was trying to get the Kettlemans as clients. The husband has been accused of embezzling over a million dollars while working as County Treasurer. Now say what if the Kettlemans did hire Jimmy McGill as their lawyer? What could he have done for them, legally speaking?

The Kettlemans have a lot going against them. Namely stealing the money by writing checks to themselves and cashing them in. The DA have the Checks as well as eyewitness testimonies and video evidence of all this. Basically a close-and-shut case.

I know that lawyers are supposed to defend their clients to the best of their abilities. But the Kettlemans make it very difficult for them to do so. Especially when they refuse any kind of plea deal and insist they are innocent. And also think they can keep the money. I am no legal expert but that sounds basically impossible.

What would have happened if they went to trial? What could any lawyer have done to defend them?

    Just finished it

Wow, it was a though ride. The last season was actually painful to watch. The series goes in taking a darker turn every step of the way and it got really sad to watch jimmy and kim in the last season. They create situations when you see jimmy almost breaking up trying to pretend he cares about other people just to put a facade to her, as she used to be the moral higherground of the relation, but when she breaks bad she is truly wicked, the scene in hamlins funeral as a example. Jimmy makes amends, she twists the knife on that womans heart. Nachos suicide and mike talking to his dad was also pretty damn sad. Tldr, this last season got me quite sad, the series is great and im glad its over.

God this show is so good. Seen it all the way through a couple times but going at it again.

Just finished the episode where Mike kills the cops that killed Matt. Amazing but hurts to see Mike this torn up.

Nacho not talking with Jimmy before taking him to Lalo was a risky move

I don't think there's a way nacho could have known Mike's association to Jimmy tbh, but considering nacho is playing a role around Lalo, there's always a risk of the wrong thing being said by Jimmy.

Firstly, Nacho didn't want tuco to find out about his side business so that's what brought nacho to Jimmy and as a result nacho to prison when Jimmy helped him. Maybe Lalo wouldn't care about his side business as much as the erratic Tuco, but then Lalo could make the link to Mike somehow

    For example

"Oh nacho how do you know Jimmy? He defended you after Tuco brought him to the desert. Haha that's cool you partnered with a criminal lawyer. Oh yeah Tuco and I talked all the time. I remember him telling me from a drop phone in prison that he was arrested for fighting an old man named Michael who used to be a cop (which Hector knows as hector told Mike that). Oh yeah Mike, that's the same name as the guy who works for Gus. Tuco described him as some old bald gringo, and Gus's Mike looks the same. So it must be the same guy?

Hey Jimmy, you wouldn't happen to know who Michael is?"

"Yes, in fact I do, I'm the one who helped good old Mike drop the gun charges on your cousin"

"So Nacho, you've brought me the same lawyer who has also worked for Nacho? He may have links to Gus then, otherwise why would Mike select him and not anyone else? Does he represent Gus too?"

It could just be a coincidence that Nacho selected this guy so maybe Nacho is safe, but then getting Krazy 8 to leak details about Gus's operation via Saul Goodman, the lawyer who potentially has links to Gus but definitely has links to Mike, is a no go, and puts Nacho at risk as well as Jimmy.

And also, let's say after Lalo said "you had business with my cousin Tuco", Jimmy misreads the 'problem' and said "oh, yeah, I was Mike's lawyer but I didn't mean to support him against Tuco, I was trying to help both parties, please don't kill me. You know Mike don't you Nacho? The old guy Tuco beat up. I helped Tuco with that too right?" Now, Lalo will be asking why nacho never put the link to Mike when Lalo kept asking do you know a Mike.

    Nachos Car

Does nacho have 2 different muscle cars in the show? When you google "Nacho's car" you get the red/white Javelin AMX, but then in season 4 episode 3, when he and Gus' men stage the shootout, he seems to be driving a different car that's painted all white. Are these 2 different cars, or is it the same Javelin AMX that he just repainted at some point?

    Thanks guys!

    Is it a thing???

Got done with BB and just got into BCS,I can't help but notice that whenever Jimmy gets into a situation he always says "Oh Come On" in his quarky voice.I even managed to call it out in some instances before he actually says it.Now I'm wondering is it like a things he genuinely does or am I just reaching here

Why do Jimmy want so bad to be a lawyer?

Honestly he sucks as a lawyer but he is a GREAT salesman, he could work easly at a luxurius Car dealership or something like that.

Obviously I'm speaking after Chuck's death

I love that scene but then I was thinking, surely they wouldn’t just accept it that easy

Why do the Kettlemans seem worse than Tuco

I'm watching Season 1 at the moment. Watched it years ago but never finished the whole series. I can't stand the god damn Kettlemans. Somehow I despise them more than Tuco, who is a worse person by all accounts. Tuco is at least honest about what he is (except with his abuela obviously). I hate how the Kettleman's basically hide behind their middle class whiteness to evade responsibility for their actions. They think they're entitled to everything, and don't even hide it well.

This show is actually full of some of the most insufferable, entitled people I've ever seen. Chuck obviously, but also the woman who calls the police on Chuck for taking her newspaper. God damn.

EDIT: Maybe I should reclarify because I feel a lot of the comments are misunderstanding me: I'm not saying that the kettlemans ARE worse than Tuco, but that when I'm watching it, they SEEM worse. They're insufferable and get under my skin more. There is something in how Tuco is evil but not really pretending to be anything else that doesn't frustrate as much.

On the hunt for the last missing piece in my physical collection.

Recently, the licences to Breaking Bad on Netflix were about to expire. Obviously, the licences got renewed for another two years. This did trigger me to persue getting the entire series of both BB and BCS (and El Camino) on blu ray, just in case it does ever disappear from the streaming platform. This turned out to be quite a project, as I can't simply walk into a store and pick them up anymore, as physical media is on it's dying breath. The last physical chain I could think of in the Netherlands that could possibly be my savior was MediaMarkt, but they don't hold any physical media anymore.

I quickly resorted to a variety of online stores and marketplaces as Amazon, Bol and others (including second hand marketplaces). Breaking Bad was not too much of a hassle, as I could order all 5 (call it 6) seasons from just three different stores and managed to pick up El Camino as well, all for around €10 to €13 a piece. This experience made me quite optimistic in my quest for the six BCS seasons.

Season one was easy, as I could get it on Amazon for just €7. Season two was available on a second hand marketplace for just €10, so all was going well. Season three is where it got a bit more... interesting. Season three was available on Amazon for around €45, but that was a bit steep compared to all the other discs I had recently aquired and found. Luckily, another marketplace, Bol, offered a used version of season three for around €25, so that was season three in the bag. Only season four, five and six remaining. I was carefully optimistic. Season five and six were available on both Bol and Amazon, but for a price. Season five on Amazon was priced at €53, a bit high in my opinion. Season six on Bol was priced at €40, but at least it was available. I then turned to Amazon UK. Amazon UK holds an entirely different assortment compared to other countries, mostly due to specific regulations. Amazon UK had both season five and six in stock for £20 each. Adding shipping and import fees, the total cost for both seasons would come down to €60. I can live with €30 a piece. Now, all I needed was season four of Better Call Saul. How hard could it be?

This is where I met my kryptonite. Season four is (still) available on Amazon for a whopping €73. I am desperate for the final season to be added to my collection, but not that desperate. My search continued. I was scouring every single webstore, marketplace and other stores I could think of. Nothing. Not on Amazon UK, Germany or wherever I looked. To this day I have not been able to find season four for a 'reasonable' price. I am lost.

Do I put aside my pride and splurge the €73 on season four to complete my collection? Do I remain patient in hopes of finding the last piece of the puzzle? Do I turn to the other side of the world to place an order in the US, costing me around €60 and a few weeks in shipping, hoping the blu ray is not region locked? Does anyone have some tips? I am staying strong, trying my best.

    For now, at least.

In the run up to Season 5, Vince said he finally got to shoot the scene he had in mind when they started the entire project. Does anyone know what that scene was ?

I read an article but it didn't spoil anything, I can't even find it now.

I'm writing this right before he is visiting hector.

Man he was so down played on BB, but on BCS he is perfect - vince about time you came you came up with a new spin off.

Nacho's situation in the first season is hilarious

"I like ripping off thieves. They have no recourse. Can't go to the police."

    This show is gold.
Jimmy calling to warn the Kettlemans in his sex-robot voice, leading up to them staging their own kidnapping, and then Nacho getting arrested is too funny.

Nacho's rage towards Jimmy in the interrogation room was perfect.
Especially when he threatens consequences for Jimmy snitching on him, but never follows up on it. I don't get why

Just finished watching Ep9 S3 "Fall"

I gotta say, it broke my heart seeing Irene's friends all against her without her knowing why just because Jimmy wanted the 20% of Sandpiper ASAP... I mean Jimmy could have pulled any card, but messing with the elders, the ones he tried to protect in the beginning... I think if he were to be honest to Irene about his share and the need he has of checking out that money she maybe would've considered because of her loyalty to her lawyer, and maybe the others would agree too. They would still earn their share and a bit more and they would be helping their lawyer business.

I feel so sad now that Kim's accident wasn't that shocking to me. But I gotta say it was a nice transition, like when you just black out and wake up in a whole different environment like puf.

    Finished Better Call Saul.

I just finished watching Better call Saul and I’m genuinely in Awe of how Vince Gilligan can outdo the masterpiece that was Breaking Bad. BCS was a rollercoaster from start to finish, people who do not like BCS assume it’s gonna be like Breaking bad where Saul defends high tier clients from S1, they do not appreciate the writing that goes into Jimmy McGill and even Mike at the early seasons and how they evolve into the characters we know and love in Breaking bad. Everything about this show I love, the characters, the writing, the plot, the villains, it improved on the characters we knew from Breaking bad and introduced us to new and amazing characters like Lalo, Howard, Nacho, Chuck, Kim. What an absolutely phenomenal show from start to finish. I believe Better Call Saul is better than Breaking bad although both are arguably the best Television shows out right now. Vince Gilligan, Thank you for these cinematic masterpieces.

Jimmy created a defense lawyer legend

Jimmy was a defense attorney master mind that routinely got criminals off with the lowest possible sentence and protected the most notorious criminal of all time.

He created the tale of a criminal lawyer, who was so well versed in the law and police that he was able to not only get his clients out of long prison sentences but was able to personally evade the law with his own crimes. He was the ultimate lawyer that you always wanted representing you in your most desperate times. He was only caught when he came clean and even when they had years worth of evidence against him he was able to turn a life sentence into 7 years. Everyone has heard of him by this point, even random taxi drivers. Even prisoners on the bus.

And in his final conversation with Kim, she is damned impressed with how well Jimmy was with the law. It's like she was looking at him the same way she looked up to Chuck when she was in the mail room.

    Finally finished BCS.

I honestly loved every minute of this show, from the crime to the court drama, to wacky shit Kim and Jimmy did throughout the show (RIP Howard and Chuck). Watching Chuck kill himself by fire was honestly heartbreaking, sure he was a shitty brother to Jimmy, but he seemed like he used to care at one point. The ending scene where he is helping Chuck with bringing stuff to his brothers house because of his condition was honestly touching, it showed how much Jimmy truly cared for Chuck. Didn't care for the way Aaron Paul sounds in the last season, his voice is just too deep. I was also shocked and glad that in the end, Jimmy finally took accountability for his actions and faced the consequences, and didn't throw Kim completely under the bus for a massively reduced sentence. Overall the entire show was a solid 9/10, it had some moments that seemed to drag, but nowhere near as bad as Breaking Bad had it.
