Amelie Lens

Call her “business techno” all you want but I was front and center at the barrier last night and it was a fucking blast. I thought she crushed it. Being up front I got to avoid any nonsense with the crowd too. Super super fun time

Hard Techno/Hardstyle/Bass Music events from Oct. 22nd-24th?

Hello,

I've checked EDMTrain, I've checked Dice, and I've checked Resident Advisor... but I can't find an event within the timespan that prominently features the aforementioned genres.

Does anyone have any insight/leads?

Thank you very much.

Is it possible to go to a show at Forest Hills and make it to the headline act at Brooklyn Mirage on time?

I don’t know who fumbled the bag and booked Three 6 Mafia at the Mirage the same night Massive Attack is at Forest Hills (Oct 24) but I’m trying to see both shows and don’t know where else to ask this question other than here. So I’ve been to Forest Hills before and know they have a strict curfew at 10pm. On the dice app for the Three 6 mafia show at Brooklyn Mirage it says that the box office is closed at 1130, an hour before the end of the show. It’s a 30 minute bike ride to Mirage from Forest Hills. If I leave at 10 from Forest Hills that’ll roughly put me there at 1030 when I’m suspecting Three 6 Mafia will come on. Interested to hear others thoughts on this. I appreciate any insight. Cheers!

best house/techno and pop music clubs for 23 year olds

visiting manhattan soon and looking for good house/techno and/or pop clubs that have a young 20s crowd! I've visited the city and lived there for a few months several times but i mostly went to dancy bars, but not club clubs. any recs are appreciated!

also, we're a group of 6-8, pretty 23-year-old women. is it harder for a big group of girls to go in? some promoters reached out to me about some clubs like tao and little sister and stuff like that, but i don't know the vibes of them really. thanks!

NYC Basshead's Digest: Meet BrokinPaper | Vol. #12 [October 4th, '24]

Greetings creatures of the sesh,

BROKINPAPER: Experimental Bass at Eris Evolution
FRIDAY 10/4 | 10PM-4AM

Continuing a post series for aggregate discussion about all flavors of bass music happening around NYC and beyond. The intent is to get the ball rolling in generating more buzz and awareness around all flavors of  bass music - events, promoters, etc... If you're interested in joining a community dedicated to NYC bass music, check out the Discord linked below.

NYC Basshead's Digest will be cross-posted to Substack from now on, consider subscribing to get direct email updates for future releases! Support the series by checking out the article on Substack here.

Today I have the pleasure of sharing an artist highlight - I was able to get together with experimental bass producer BrokinPaper who is throwing an event at the electronic venue Eris Evolution today (Friday, October 4th) to ask him a few questions and learn more about his artistry. 29 year old Queens native Harrison Lee -- more well known as the producer and DJ BrokinPaper -- has developed his sound over the years releasing genre-defying projects such as The Maslow EP (2019) and NEO BRUT (2020) . His latest 8-track album “Creation Theory” released in 2023 sets the stage for his sound moving forward, and he is currently working his up-coming self release “FUNCTION OVER FORM”. Stream his music below!

Q: When did you start making music and what inspired you to produce electronic music?
A: I started making music when I was 13, releasing music as a band at the time and some guy on the internet showed me FL Studio. Got into it, he let me reverse engineer some tracks that he had made, then it became easier than recording live instruments.

Q: What is your process for creation as a genre-fluid artist?
A: I usually get inspired by certain themes, and topics that come from what I see or hear. I especially like to find things that don't directly relate to music, but offer enough information for listeners to get a general understanding of what the project might sound like. They can then make their own connections. For this reason, I've found that it was necessary to put songs of different genres into one project to get my idea across. Each song is like a piece contributing to the overall tone and message of the project. Some songs' titles don't have anything to do with the project, but how the song sounds definitely does. Some titles are a little more on the nose than others.

Q: How would you describe your sound at present?
A: I think my music says what it needs to say without saying too much.

Q: What are you most excited about in your upcoming release?
A: It feels like it's the most polished an idea has been. I took a little break from creating music, and focused a lot on visual aspects. I was also able to get new inspiration from living.

Q: What is the origin of “BROKINPAPER”?
A: "BROKINPAPER" / "BrokinPaper" is an offshoot of the name of the band I was in when I was 13. I've kept the name ever since and used it for everything, it's become who I am at this point and I can't change it (even though I've considered doing so before)

Q: What is your creative process for visual accompaniment to your music/projects?
A: The theme or idea that the project is centered around typically drives the visuals that come with it. However, the idea of "saying what I need to say without saying too much" also drives a lot of how I approach making the visual aspect of BrokinPaper.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about the show you have coming up on October 4th?
A: I'm super excited for the show on October 4th, as its our first time playing in Brooklyn, and I have a lot of music to share / test out. We're also using some new visuals that I think people will enjoy. I've also been able to add some other artists to the lineup who I've worked with before:

indigo - New York native. Has released several tracks taking inspiration from Griz and LSDream, and has gained attention from prominent producer/DJs like Zingara. This marks his second live performance after making his debut at Elements Music & Arts Festival in PA.

TooFknLoud - New York native. A talented DJ and performer, he also performs as singer/songwriter Ian Persaud. He is set to make his producer debut as "TooFknLoud" soon after the show, with a new single set to be released in the coming weeks.

Zarka - From Houston, Texas. Has released several bass / melodic dubstep releases with Noiseporn and Future Bass Records. Takes inspiration from Illenium, Wooli, Said The Sky, and Kai Wachi. This is Zarka's first live performance in New York City, and follows several shows in his hometown and his festival debut at Flow Faire in Cleburne, TX.

We've really upped the production value compared to our previous shows. We want guests to really feel like they had a good and fun night at the end of it. So we've approached everything in regards to upgrading our lights, upgrading our visuals, all oriented around how we want our guests to feel when they get to the venue. We want them to feel like they were a part of something.

re: kaytranada at forest hills and bowl seating

i’m sorry what?? like maybe i’m just stupid but how is having a free for all in the bowl seating not first come first serve?? and “the only difference between the tiers is price” so if there’s no difference between tier one and two why were they sold at different price points to begin with?? has anyone else attended a show at FHS with this setup and can you speak to how it all went down? i’m coming to the show after work and won’t arrive until 8pm and now i’m worried about where i’ll stand.

Day / park party recommendations Saturday 10/5?

Visiting from Chicago and looking for a fun outdoor event. Local DJs and queer friendly preferred but pretty open to anything. I've heard of Mister Sunday and love the vibe but I'll be at something else that day. Anything similar to that happening?

Twin DJs who look Albino?

Apparently they are playing tonight. Who are they? They’ve been described as apart of a line up based somewhere near Brooklyn Mirage on this side quest I’m on to find tonight. If you can tell me who these two are — I think I can finally achieve the goal

DJ/Producers (Artists) who play their own records?

What DJs, in the Brooklyn underground scene, play a majority of their own produced music?

I was at Bossa Nova Civic Club this past Wednesday to see Kyruh + John Yienger and John killed it. The next day he posted that he played 100% of his own tracks over his 2hr set.

I haven’t seen much of this recently but was thoroughly impressed.
