Making a little WW2 AU of Asterix that takes a great amount of inspiration from Tintin and Indiana Jones. I'm gonna draw Obelix eventually, though I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the idea, or if there are any name suggestions for this Asterix variant.

Asterix Historical Contributions

Honestly, one of my favorite things about Asterix are his supposed historical contributions that he unwittingly did. I’m going to point out a few, but comment stuff I may miss for curiosity’s sake!

So Asterix:

  • Invented bullfighting in Spain
  • Brought tea drinking to Britain
  • Was in Bethlehem for Jesus Christ’s birth
  • Through Getafix, established the precision of Egyptian architecture
  • Discovered the Americas
  • Was responsible for introducing the polite culture of the french
  • Stopped the Goths from invading by causing infighting among its own tribes

Who is your favourite character AFTER Asterix and Obelix?

Bonus if you have a favourite Roman!

And no, no Dogmatix - that's just cheating.

Astérix as a character

Astérix suffers from the same thing as Tintin, imo. He's the main character of his respective series and the one who the series is named after... but the more charismatic and popular character is the secondary/side-kick(Obélix and Haddock).

That isn't to say Astérix is a bad character. Unlike Tintin, he's never annoyed me or done something cringeworthy like Tintin has done sometimes. Astérix is generic but at the same time nothing is wrong with him. Nothing is objectionable about him. He just isn't as fun as Obélix.

Thoughts?

Asterix & Obelix XXl Romastered Textures Bugs on Steam Deck

Anyone knows how to fix this? No matter what I do, The water and some other textures like dust clouds in caves and hourglasses have no textures and are just shown as some black void. I could really use some help here :( (A sample of those missing textures is in this picture)

Help to find translated quotes

In Italian version of Asterix and the secret weapon (it: La rosa e il gladio fr:La Rose et le Glaive) at page 36, Asterix comes back to his companions, temporarily evicted in the woods by their wives, and announces that he has made peace with the new bard (who is a woman). In the fourth panel his colleagues make fun of him by joking about the fact that another bachelor has fallen victim to cupid and the old man of the village quotes a line from Dante's Divine Comedy: "amor ch'a nullo amato...". I would be curious to know what the joke was in French and how it was translated into English. Thanks to whoever will take the trouble to look for and respond.

What species is the owl in "Le Combat des Chefs/The Big Fight/Der Kampfe der Häuptlinge"?

So in the original French, they're referred to as "un hibou," meaning owls with the ear tufts. (An owl without those tufts is called "une chouette"). So just to get myself into trivia, I wonder what species our feathered friend is. Either way, hope they make it into Netflix's upcoming series. I really loved the owl in the comic, and I hope they play a big part. To give my own handcanon, I'd name the owl "Strix," which is also an owl genus.

Asterix Phychologies

Hello, everyone! Does anyone have any information about this journal? It started selling on July 7, 2023. I’ve tried looking for it in Paris, including second-hand comic shops, but haven’t had any luck. I’ve also asked about it on Russian and French forums, but no one has been able to find anything. I’d really like to read these articles!

Names?

I'd love to know all the characters names. Is there a list somewhere of them all in English?

Obviously there is Asterix, Obelix, dogmatix, Getafix... I just loved how the husband's and wives were named to work together, like Unhygienix the Fishmonger and his wife Bacteria. Even the Romans had hilarious names.

I've heard that the English versions of the names are different to what they were originally in French, is that true?

Help me tdentify the Asterix book with the fight behind the curtain

Hello all,

I am trying to locate a specific vignette from one of the Asterix bok. In this scene, there is a fight between the Gauls and the Romans that happens behind the curtains, like in a theater performace. You can’t see the fight itself - just the sound effects, visual cues, and possibly some parts of the curtain lifted to see a detail.

I have been g my brain but can’t remember which book it’s from...

Can anyone please help?

Asterix in dialect

So, I rewrote this entire Comic in styrian dialect for my dads birthday. The last comic in styrian dialect got pulished like 20 years ago, so I thought it would be a nice present for him, since he’s such a big fan. Everyone loved the comic and some told me I should contact some authorities for getting it published. I‘ve tried it once but didn’t get any response… Do you guys know who is responsible and how to contact them?
