I bought a painting from Belarus' a few years on ebay searching for unknown artists. I recently ran it through google lens and it appears nearly identical to a painting called "Mecheski - Moon People" by Roerich. I think its tempera on cardboard. The only difference is one of the figures on mine appear slightly different than the original, a little larger.
Did Roerich do studies or replicas of his work? Im having trouble finding much about these "paintings of paintings", what to call it exactly or how to evaluate it.
Thanks
This was given to my grandparents in the 80's by our neighbours who were originally from the north of Italy. Can it be identified at all?
Recently, I have seen some time-limited art sales from online platforms such as Avant Arte and CIRCA Art. They cooperate with big names such as Ai Wei Wei, Marina Abramović, Anish Kapoor, etc. They sell unlimited prints for a time-limited period (e.g. 24/48 hours or couple of week/months). I personally like these sales and have bought some pieces, as they were super nice and I really liked the artists.
What I am trying to understand is if these time-limited art sales are common; what the purpose of such sales is (mere profit (for the artists themselves or a good cause, such as CIRCA Art does, or?) and if it is ‘worth’ to buy prints during such sales. I know to only buy art pieces that you fall in love with and thinking about the money/investment-side is not a priority, but I am just curious to know what other think about buying stuff of quite famous artists during such time-limited sales.
Keen to hear from fellow art lovers.
Warm wishes!
PS. If anyone knows other platforms/organisations that do such time-limited sales: hit me up.
Hello sirs and mdms
I bought a painting recently and there are fine cracks on it. What would you guys recommend in order to preserve the painting in hot and humid place like Singapore?
It's an oil on canvas 100 x 120cm by le mayeur and I hope some people here has come across works by him, restoration wise.
Any advice is welcomed.
My grandparents owned a lodge in a really secluded area and they often traded with artists who would stay and work for long stretches. They amassed an amazing collection of art, and I was recently gifted a piece that I have particularly loved for a long time. It is, however, in pretty bad shape, and I want to figure out how to, at least, preserve it from getting worse. I also have found nothing on the artist.
The painting is about 30"x25" seems to be on a thick paper that is fixed to a piece of hard composite board (similar to what you'd see on the back of furniture). My guess is that rather than being hung, it was leaned against a wall, and so over the years the board began to warp and it's a little bit concave. It also has a very real rip in the bottom.
I don't have a ton of money, but I would invest what I can in preserving/restoring it, and I will probably take it to someone to at least hear what they would want to do.
I also have not been able to figure out who the artist is. Google led me to a few painters named Kotzé, but none that seemed to be painting in 1967. Somebody thought the painter was South African, but I'm not sure. If anyone recognizes the signature, or thinks I'm reading the name wrong, that would be helpful.
Will a top loader and cardboard be safe or are there better options? I don’t want to frame it.
Hi! Hoping to get any advice on how to minimize damage to this beautiful painting I got at a market in Peru while traveling. Unfortunately, I had to leave it rolled in its tube during my trip, and it’s now been over a month since I purchased it. I’d like to frame and care for it properly but I’m currently too afraid of cracking and peeling to even touch it!
If anyone has advice on how to slowly flatten it and hopefully minimize damage, I’d be so grateful.
There is a museum in Greece that sells silk screen prints of a deceased artist I like (Tsarouchis).
One of the prints I’d like to buy is listed for 1000 euros. I emailed them to purchase and they are now asking for 2500 because there are only a few left. Would it be proper (or improper) to negotiate the price? I’d be willing to pay about 500 more, but the 2500 is out of my budget. What are your opinions?
I have a couple of 18th century engravings by Antonio Faldoni that I picked up at an estate sale, these were from drawings by Antonio Zanetti of various Greek and Roman busts around Venice. I'm hoping to sell them, they're not really to my taste. But I don't know much about 'old master prints,' so I want to make sure I understand what I have. They're 'colored' with black ink and washes of yellow and white. If anyone's familiar with 18th century Venetian prints, I'm just wondering how and when these would have come to be colored. If I google the images, I see other copies that were colored in the same fashion. Does this add or decrease the value? What does it mean that the colored ones have an engraved frame around the image of the bust?
Hi folks
I've got a quite dark oil painting in a quite dark room that I'd like to have lit up.
I'm struggling to find a decent solution and am worried that I'll damage the painting which is precious to me (gollum etc)
I've been reading about LED lighting being a solution, but there is some arguement apparently about if LEDs do cause paintings to fade, and then there's also the catch that so many light fixture descriptions just don't give the info you need.
Would something like this be suitable:
It wouldn't be lit up for more than a couple of hours a day, and some days not at all if it makes any difference
Thanks for your help
I've inherited from my grandmother a lithograph circa 1869 of "Flowers of Memory" by Rivoire. I shared a photo of it with a local antique dealer who seemed pretty excited and anxious about picking it up. He offered $100 for it site unseen .. I don't anticipate it's worth a fortune, but wondering whether $100 is a rip off?
Should I get additional quotes?
Appreciate your time. :)

LMAO!
This is our new weekly thread that will allow artist to post their work and have a chance to promote their work to potential investors. All posts made outside this thread by artists promoting their own work will be deleted.
I found this Romero Britto print at a garage sale today for a low price. I am not very familiar with art and it's value but would love to get some input from the community where something like this would land?
Curiosity got the best of me and now I need to learn more. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I’m thinking of buying a piece of Art that was created by William Sidney Cooper. The site I’m using is ‘Invaluable’. I’m naive to this world, will the pieces be 100% authentic? Or do I need to do my own research?
After seeing this at auction decided to purchase this print. I think Blek le rat is quite a undervalued artist considered to be the original stencil artist.
Hi! Anyone out there a fan of David Hockney posters? I'm a fan of their work, but unfortunately I'll probably never be able to afford an original piece by him. I still would enjoy a poster with one of his artworks. Sometimes people sell them on FB marketplace or on eBay from time to time. A lot of those times the price on them are absurdly high considering that they are unsigned and just posters. Anyone out their with more experience know if it's worth buying these prints at $800+
