I feel like I’m going insane. How can a browser have “boosts”, shiny arc cards, a bucket of AI features, but not simple font resizing? Something we’ve had in software for 50 odd years?
Tried to migrate from Zen, but I can’t have all the tabs I need for work in my sidebar visible at one time. The amount of vertical space they take up on my 32inch monitors (or god forbid my 14inch when I unplug the laptop) is ridiculous, especially when Arc just last month labelled this as their “G4 Cube” of browsers.
Please tell me I’m missing something, it’s stopping me from migrating and it’s really annoying.
It just occurred to me that you don't really bookmark pages in Arc.... but it is all about saving pages.... so we need a new word? I'd like to throw Arcmarc or Arcmark into the ring if it isn't already a thing :)
I don't understand this AI browser business. But I like arc. However, I don't feel so secure using it. Deta claims all my data is local so might be more secure? Any thoughts?
I can not tell if it's any of my extensions, but something is afoot.
Whenever I visit a website, in this case it was volt.fm, I am constantly getting frustrated and bombarded by this freaking thing clicking links. It's not me clicking the link on accident, I can literally be not touching my computer and this thing will just load something. I'm tryna view my stats because I can't get on Spotify Wrapped rn, btu for some gosh dang reason it REALLY wants me to view one of my songs I listened to this year because it keeps constantly freaking loading the page.
And when I click the back arrow, it just takes me back to the homepage (the last link I really clicked)
Can anyone help me solve this issue? Here's all my extensions
One that immediately comes to mind for me is link rot. I spend a lot of time chasing down primary resources, and even when you start from a well-maintained site like Wikipedia, it's extremely common to find broken links just one or two clicks deep. Archive.org is great, but it's a terrible experience having to jump over to it from your normal browsing process.
I'm the co-founder of this open source software project that's aiming to make personal archival easy and automatic. One thing we're investigating is the degree to which our technology could be used within a browser to automatically fix link rot, help you find things you've seen before more quickly, or share content in a privacy preserving way.
We have some early ideas for new browsing experiences and I would love to get feedback from this community about which directions are most interesting. I've been using Arc since early 2022, and while I'm impressed by the quality of their interface design, I'm disappointed with TBCs new direction. I don't want my browser to make decisions for me—I want it to help me organize and traverse the web more effectively. I want more control over the Internet, not more blackbox automation that I'm forced to blindly trust.
We're conducting some calls early next week to talk more about this stuff. If you'd like to participate, including giving feedback on some early prototype ideas, we have a short survey to fill out. Thanks so much for considering.
I got my roommates onto Arc a few months back and we all of course like it but with all the doom and gloom and complaints here in the sub(which i dont see in real world use from those i know who use arc...anecdotal i know), i noticed something and it is also something i think many ppl here probably should take into consideration.
There are 3 types of Arc windows users
1. Those who have used mac version then tried windows
These are the most vocal and rightfully so to a degree because they can easily compare the differences and deficiencies between the two.
My roommate falls into this camp. He gets annoyed he cant use certain features when he is at work on his windows that he can on his mac.
2. They ONLY use Arc windows
They have no idea outside of reading about it what features mac version has and that they miss out on windows because they have what they have and thats all they know.
So they don't understand some of the discourse. My other roommate is like this. he doesn't know what easels are or boosts do.
3. They use both but see both as separate entities
This is where I and many in the sub fall into.
I use arc Mac 70 percent of the time when i am working on music or my video content and editing stuff. It works great for me because I view it the same as I do my media content.
The other 30 percent is usually when I am doing work related stuff (schedling, ordering, research, etc etc) on my windows. I use a surface pro (current gen) and my old HP laptop which is shitty as fuck for travel bc if it gets lost idc.
Arc windows is not fully capable as Arc mac but then again I also use Mac and Windows for two different mindsets which is why i see and treat Arc versions differently.
Many of us don't complain because many of us treat them differently. Same with Arc search...they share a brain but they perform tasks differently.
That is why so many disagreements and difference in use are drastic is because we all are using Arc in different ways that the experience is not consistent. Which i do fault TBC for.
i say all this to say when i hear someone complaining about arc windows i am trying to see it a bit differently bc our use is different
Hey everyone!
I just downloaded Arc yesterday....I like it a lot, however I can't login to YouTube and can't really find any information about it...I've found that Brave's shield blocker prevented Brave users from logging in as well, but I'm not sure how to fix this in Arc. The issue is pretty simple, when I click "login" on Youtube it just brings me to an error page, saying "There was an issue signing you into YouTube." with no other information.
For reference, I haven't changed any settings...I'm guessing it has to do with uBlock Origin?
Thanks in advance for anyone who knows how to fix this :)
Edit:
-Disabled uBlock Origin, didn't fix it.
So I REALLY LIKED ARC up until recently and I used it every single day with TONS of TABS all the time.
But lately a funny thing has happened !
It is now SHIT (That's right with a capital S)
Literally NOTHING works right on my M1 Mac
I mean they have the ABSOLUTE WORST Tab management I have ever seen in my entire life honestly no exaggeration !!! I mean NONE of the tab managers seem to work with it !!
The only way I have found that works everytime is to right click on a tab group and copy all links and then paste to a textedit.
That's it!! And believe me when I say I've literally tried DOZENS of tab managers that work GREAT on any other browser EXCEPT for Arc
Then there's the HORRIBLE MEMORY MANAGEMENT. !! I mean it is HORRIBLE, the worst I've ever seen !!
It's almost like they just gave up or something as it used to be GREAT but it seems that with every update it keeps getting worse and worse.
And yes I set the tabs to goto sleep within minutes of saving them to no avail. It has some serious issues with addons and I finally just gave up as I was spending literally an hour a day just housekeeping to keep it running well and I have 16Gb's of RAM in my M1 mac mini so I feel sorry for those with only 8Gb's as can only imagine how bad that must be.
So another browser that goes in the junkpile as of this point going forward I just don't see them caring enough to fix all the bugs this thing has !!!
It was great while it lasted but now to the trashbin it goes
Anyone have any recommendations on a replacement as so far I am liking Zen Browser although I don't think it is ready for heavy usage yet. I am thinking of going with gasp Microsoft Edge maybe ?? Or brave. I am a HEAVY USER who opens literally hundreds of tabs a day for my work and need something with GREAT Memory management so basically the complete opposite of Arc
Don't believe me that it sucks then open up Activity monitor and search for Arc although you won't have to search as literally almost half of the items will be Arc related
Someone needs to take this out behind the toolshed and put it out of it's misery !!!
Sorry for being so negative as I am USUALLY NOT but this thing is just GARBAGE and there's no getting around it !!
DO BETTER ARC
is there a keyboard shortcut for replacing the pinned page with the curret one? i find myself using it way too often, and each time that's several seconds of searching for this button in the menus
I've a bunch of tabs saved in the sidebar.
Am currently trying to organise them into respective folders.
However found it inefficient to be dragging them one by one.
Is there a way to mass select and drag them into a folder for example?
Can someone tell if this usage is high as compared to other browsers? I've about 10-15 tabs open right now. I've been hearing a lot about Arc being inefficient and so people are switching back to Safari, Chrome, etc.
TIA!
Seeing a lot of posts on here about people hating TBC’s direction, lack of feature updates, etc. Let’s have a very high level look at things regarding Arc:
The competition:
Considering all this, I’d say Arc browser as a package is good.
Arc browser (mac version) does not need any new major features at this point. For the average user, it’s got plenty. TBC should focus on efficiency and quality of life improvements for Arc.
As for windows parity, it’s best not to keep your hopes high. Building a windows application in swift will require work and who knows what’s going on in the boardroom at TBC. If they’ve got other things to look after, windows parity will be on the back seat for quite some time.
Same can be said for iOS and android.
Also, let’s not forget, TBC is still a small business.
P.S. I’ll update/rephrase this post in a better way later
So, I restarted my PC as I was changing my UAC, and I didn't close Arc manually. After the restart, several of my extensions disappeared. The icons went blank, and when I click on the extension, the window says Page moved or not found. After removing the extension and trying to install it again, it didn't work at first, saying that the extension is already installed. It only worked after I restarted the browser.
Its crazy that they are leaving this unstable unfinished browser and making another product.
I can't write any of the post in naver cafe and blog.(I can set the tile of the article) But, when i type something on the body then all i see is white page and can't close. So I tried another browser chorme but it worked. so fix it please
Anybody else having issues trying to use Spotify web player through Arc? Website is slow for me and will not play music.
I promise this is worth a read and not a stupid breakup announcement lol!
Hi,
I'm a big fan of the Arc browser and have been following The Browser Company for quite a while. I'm a graphic designer, and I love marketing. Arc has many qualities that make it special, but its ambition to create quirky, experimental features baked into a beautiful UI has always been what drew me to it.
Why does my opinion matter? It doesn't. I'm just a fan, and I'm not quick to turn on a company. The Browser Company making a second browser doesn’t upset me at all—it’s how they’ve gone about sharing it that has. I have minor issues with Arc and want improvements, but consider me your ideal Arc user—someone who isn’t diving extremely deep into the finite details of how it works. Arc works amazingly for me, and I hope I never have to leave.
The Browser Company has some of the slickest marketing strategies I’ve ever seen from a tech company. Not only is their product visually stunning, but it’s also marketed extremely cleverly. The ever-evolving look of their ads and YouTube videos, the slick Arc website, and the fun animations baked into the browser have always been part of what set them apart. While other browser companies are making unique options, Arc seems to have resonated most with power users. I genuinely believe the company has a lot of potential and can achieve exciting things.
I’m not saying all this to sound like a fanboy. I am a fan, but I can also point out the missteps the company seems to be making.
At its core, what makes Arc so cool and interesting is its approach to creating fun and useful tools to improve the browsing experience. I think Arc Max was the pinnacle of that so far. I love the awesome features it brought: Boosts (though they’re buggy), Instant Links, Ask on Page, and 5-second previews. These small but helpful tools have genuinely improved my experience. I understand these features didn’t skyrocket revenue, but they did (in my opinion) impress many in this community and the tech space.
At work, I use Easels a lot. They’re super helpful in my workflow, and I often share them with my colleagues. The social media manager at my job thought this feature was so cool that she was willing to move from Chrome to Arc. We both have a few gripes about Easels, but they’re still incredibly useful. Features like this are what made Arc so compelling—the willingness to experiment and evolve the experience made it so much fun to use.
As the weeks have progressed, Josh’s announcements about a second browser and yesterday’s video about Dia were... interesting. First off, I’m (somewhat) happy they’re making a second browsing experience. Necessary? Probably not. But they’re called The Browser Company, not Arc, which always implied another product would eventually come. Secondly, the concepts and ideas they showed in yesterday’s video were pretty cool, and I could see myself using them.
My complaints about Josh’s video announcing a second browser:
After months of teasing new features for Arc, saying they were scrapped and moved to another project completely killed Arc’s vibe. I know "vibe" is a strange word to use, but it fits—honestly, they did kill it. The Arc community felt sidelined, much like the Andy "wanting to play with another toy" meme. The online backlash was brutal, and I don’t think anyone can dispute that.
It now seems like others (besides Josh... until very recently) have gone back and claimed Arc will continue to be supported. Clearly, they got the message after the backlash. But to tell everyone in that video that Arc wouldn’t be getting new features like before hurt the perception of both Josh and the company as a whole.
Also, why leave the Arc name behind? Arc has some brand recognition now. Starting from scratch with Dia feels unnecessary. Arc is closer to popularity than Dia will be for a while. Why not just add features to Arc and leverage its existing strong marketing?
My wish for Arc:
Bring the features shown in Dia to Arc as toggles. Work on a second browser if you want, but don’t leave Arc’s passionate community behind. At the heart of this, many believe the move is driven by revenue needs, which is understandable. Business is hard. Still, I wish they’d focus on making Arc better. Even if they added a pro tier and charged for it, I think that’d be fine. People would complain, sure, but business is business. Dia, in my opinion, isn’t the future—or maybe it is. Who knows? What I do know is the marketing around it has been a mess. For a company known for brilliant marketing, this felt rushed, as if they don’t know what direction they want to go.
Also, diving into Dia while Arc is at its buggiest—especially on Windows—is a bad choice. If you think Arc is finished, actually finish it before moving on. Right now, the perception is that the whole company has abandoned Arc. The Arc team needs to get more vocal about support, bug fixes, and continued development.
Finally, Josh’s Twitter posts aren’t helping. Arguing online is doing more harm than good. Big CEOs don’t waste time fighting on X (except Elon—don’t be like Elon). Just buckle down, build what you want, and make it good. Tim Cook isn’t on X defending the lack of Apple Intelligence in the new iPhone. Josh shouldn’t be there explaining why Dia is the right move. Work on the product, and let the results speak for themselves.
In summary:
I don’t think Josh is a bad guy. He’s full of great ideas, but he might overshare online. Take a page from big CEOs: focus on making the killer product you dream about.
I don’t expect my words to mean much, but I hope someone at The Browser Company reads this. They seem open to learning from their community.
Now, to the Reddit community:
Stop announcing you’re leaving Arc. If you have complaints, make them constructive and kind. Don’t bash for the sake of bashing. We don’t need the 50th post about someone leaving without any real explanation. Be nice. This is just a browser. We need positivity and constructive criticism.
If you read all this, thank you! My words might not mean much, but maybe they’ll spark a healthy discussion. What do you think of the situation?
For some reason Shift + Return won't work. Any tips on how to fix it? It's set up and was working before.
Hi,
Is there any way to disable "Force Dark Mode" on Android? They've added that on a recent update but it's kinda broken for some websites. Is there any button to disable it? Cannot find that.
For anybody wishing to ask or learn more about Dia, The Browser Company's second browser, please keep all related conversations within the new subreddit.
Thanks everyone.
Eagerly waited for it. But fate decides something else.. anyway..
Hello. I have been getting this message whenever I try to use the Instant Links feature on Mac. It says searching the web then shows it. Anyone know how to fix it? I have it turned on in settings.
Not only did they abandon their unfinished product to start a new one, but now they expect us to trust this startup with our personal information by granting their new tool access to our emails and other sensitive data? What's next? Will they abandon this one too because they decide AI should be integrated directly into hardware, just to raise another round of funding?
They’re fighting a losing battle. Their vision can be accomplished by Companies like Apple and Google by integrating AI directly into the operating system instead of through a browser.
The fact that now they splice multiple release notes into one page just shows how little The Browser Company cares about us. Instead of building a niche browser for users like us, they're chasing an even more niche AI application which will come out after the Jarvis Chrome Extension.
Where is my browser history on the iphone. I can't find it in chromium and archive is not what I am looking for. Archive only shows links that closed not every url visited which is frustrating when trying to find anything. Any help would be appreciated!
Now that the team has moved onto a new project and stopped adding new features to arc, are the features on macos like the boosts and weasels gonna come to windows or are they just gonna abandon the windows users and just give them just bug fixes and chromium updates.
I personally use windows and linux and would have loved to see a linux version of the browser. I know that the linux userbase is pretty small, but I feel like it's better to include all of the users to get your browser to be more popular. Moreover, I see Arc to be a browser for the "power" users who are mostly on the linux side. Zen browser did this really well as they made their browser on all three platforms (eventhough they are in the very early stages of development).
Goodbye Arc community. We had a good run. Was exciting(ish) while it lasted. After trusting a startup and them just bailing on the entire community just screams ignorance and carelessness. Dia sounds atrocious too so I am not going to be using or supporting them anymore.
