We Can Escape Silibandia (Silicon Valley + The Broadband and Media Industries)

Google is part of Silibandia (Silicon Valley + The Broadband and Media Industries). They control the world's information infrastructure. They believe information about you is their property.

To get a seat on Alphabet's board of directors, you need at least 15% shareholding. That means you need at least $260 billion. How many people have that kind of money? Why does the control of the world's information infrastructure have to be in the hands of a few wealthy people? Why should these people have the power to treat information about you as their personal property?

We can all escape Silibandia if we decide to participate in ensuring everyone has absolute control over information about them.

Crypto Crash: How Stable Are Stablecoins?

US News & World Report suggest that holders of crypto assets, including supposedly stable stablecoins, take a good look at the assumptions behind crypto as an investment.

Stablecoins are just one more example of what inevitably happens to decentralization when it’s subject to real-world pressures. It turns out that governance is required, and as the decentralization advocate Lawrence Lundy-Bryan notes,

There is no such thing as decentralized governance.”

Chromecast

I am done with google's obsession with harvesting everybody's personnal info and making it seem like it's no big deal.

But I want to cast stuff on my TV.

I thought this subreddit might be of help. I want an all around casting device that doesn't cost 200$ to cast netflix and my phone to the TV, any idea?

Google Photos is stealing my data and won't let me unsync my photos to save them on my device only.

I just got a new phone and now Google is saying that I've run out of storage and I won't be able to access my Gmail account anymore, which I will need for work.

I've tried to download all of my photos to my android, and then delete them from Google Photos. I unsynced my device, but now when I try to delete the images, they still delete from my phone.

I can't even uninstall the Google Photos app. I used to have free unlimited storage, but now I'm only allowed 15 GB. I don't even want to use this service.

Google is trying to replace the gallery app on cell phones, and steal the rights to our images. They also use facial recognition AI tech to store images of our faces to identify us with.

I feel like my privacy is being invaded. This feels very Orwellian.

I am trying to keep my photos and take them off Google, but it seems impossible. Google is a leech, stealing my intellectual property and my data.

I'm researching avoidance or acceptance towards personalised ads from social media users and non-social media users, id like to hear your opinions

All information is in the first page of the link, how data is used, how long its stored for etc. The survey takes 6 minutes to complete on average.

Can anyone help?

I’ve set up a new Mac turned off the usual requests that are intrusive as I set it up manually. I’m trying to get onto Safari to download Firefox. But I cannot get past the message from Google “Before you continue to Google Search” etc

Is there away around this or do I agree. Download what I need and then remove everything?

Thanks in advance.

I'm old enough to remember when Googling 'Relaxing Music' provided a diverse option of cool websites. Not it's just Youtube. This needs to be illegal.

Google search engine sucks! But is there another alternative....?

Look, I hate google's search engine for many reasons (here on it will be refered to as simply google)... There was a point in time before it was noticeably manipulated, filled with adverts, politically biased, etc. That time has passed, and likely will be gone forever with google.

I recently changed my default search browser to duckduckgo. As much as I loath google, and as much as the above points are true, I ended up using google for my searches at least half of the time.

Its the simple things which puts google over the top. For isntance, being able to type in a single word followed by "meaning" or "definition" and having the full dictionary version of the word pop up with synonrms and examples and much more informaTion on that word without clicking anything is a very nice feature. That is just one small but significant features which makes it hard for me to ditch google.

In time, I feel like duckduckgo or even other search engines will get these features under their belts and thus win myself over 100% of the time.

But for the time being, I hate admitting this but, I will continue to use google for these features. There are many of them and I wont elaborate on every single one. Word definition feature is just a great example that I use almost everyday. My hatred for google has not eclipsed the desire to not spend extra time on other search engines.

Right now, I think the absolute best reason to use alternatives like duckduckgo or whatever else may be out there, is for searches that are.... controversial, political, sensitive, etc.

A good example would be a casual search about drugs - relax I am just making a point here. In the past, you'd get a legitimate search from google which subjected the terms to the algorithms used for every other innocent (or not) entry. Now, guaranteed almost 100% of the time, the first result will be from drugabuse.gov... with the entire 1st page being along the same line (or very similar sites/results). So somebody could be researching harm reduction methods and instead of being directed to a useful page on reddit or bluelight, you get nothing but drugabove.gov type results.

Again, this is one of MANY examples...

TL;DR - Duckduckgo is a good alternative for google but falls short in some areas... is there a search engine that we can use which is truly google-like ? (minus the flagrant issues with google)
