Feel free to volunteer great resources you find on the net regarding writing music, the Ableton DAW, or tutorials and the like.
Do not tell people to RTFM (read the fucking manual) unless you're also posting a link the specific section that covers their inquiry. Everyone should bookmark the Live manual, for it loves you.
Try to post about Ableton stuff. Try not to post about non-Ableton stuff. Memes and shitposts have been deemed by the community as non-Ableton stuff. We don't want to see your floor mat that looks like the Ableton logo.
Participate in good faith and avoid being mean, condescending, or outright insulting other users.
No piracy. Advocating, asking for, or giving advice on how to pirate is prohibited. Linking to piracy-centric subs also prohibited. Unless you can prove someone is using pirated software, don't accuse someone of using it. Don't ask, don't tell.
Blatant self promotion and/or requests for feedback on your tracks are not permitted submissions. Feedback requests are encouraged in the relevant weekly threads. In regards to self promo, do not be a brand with a reddit account, be a redditor with a brand. If your post history is mostly your content posted multiple places and mostly your comments on your own videos, we probably aren't interested.
Answer questions about your content if you post your own content. If you are not willing to field questions then your post will be removed at mod's discretion.
If you are posting a link, it must be a self post, you must do a writeup on the hardware and software, and you must answer questions about it in the commments. Failure to comply can result in your post being removed. TL;DR - No battlestations, take them to /r/musicbattlestations.

How does one go about adjusting an audio clip with more precision?
So i recently upgraded from an old 2014 iMac to a new m4pro mac mini and now all of my projects get the " the vst 2 plugin could not be found " error. Is there any way to fix this without resorting to using the rosetta startup method? Everything seems to be slower using this so it kind of defeats the purpose of the new, more powerful computer.
I want to be able to record the midi notes that auto shift generates when it pitch shifts. Often times Auto Shift (AS) gets pretty close to what I want, but just has a couple weird stutter things, and rather than automating scale parameters or other things it would be so cool to have AS be able to record its midi info to a new channel and then pipe that midi back into AS so that it can be tweaked.
First off - I searched for this and didn't find anything, but maybe it exists already?
If not - What would need to happen to make this work. Would it be feasible to do this in Max for Live? (I have a fair amount of coding experience but none in M4L)
Thanks!
I play a digital piano (Kawai es100) with excellent action and onboard piano sounds, but limited further functionality and almost no midi controls besides the keyboard.
For live use (non-scripted, mostly improvising), I'd like to have:
I already use a windows laptop for a soundboard software.
I was considering buying a mini midi controller, such as AKAI APC mini MK2, and interface both my keyboard and the controller to the laptop via midi, and generate all sound there.
Would this be a good setup? Is Ableton the right tool to handle this use case? Is the live lite license included with the hardware enough? Which other software would I need? Eg a piano vst.
Thanks
I recently bought a *new* Push 3 controller from Sweetwater. Upon entering the registration code, Ableton's site says that the serial number on that particular Push had already been registered to a different email. Seemed odd because the hardware and box were literally in perfect condition. I sent it back to Sweetwater and they promptly sent me another. (Sweetwater rules. Shout out my salesman Luciano.) I received the supposedly brand new replacement Push 3 today and, lo and behold, the registration code is pulling up the same error as if the product has already been registered to a different email/account. What gives?
It seems narrowed down to being an Ableton issue as Sweetwater promptly handled it with a *brand spanking new* replacement. Why aren't the registration codes working? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
I'm trying to watch Youtube tutorials while I have Ableton open so that I can follow along. However, when I start interacting with Ableton, the Youtube video freezes. The solution is closing Ableton, closing my web browser, opening my browser, then Youtube works again. I can't see the Youtube video well enough on my phone screen to watch on that to follow along, and if I can't work in Ableton while watching Youtube, I'm not going to be able to learn. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Anyone ever have this issue?
Like I'll open it and then the Vital synth will be playing without the initial preset(s) used in the project 💀
Would using collect all and save be a remedy to this or something else?
Thanks
hey I'm struggling here i need some help so I'm struggling with automation so in Ableton if i have a effect on a midi clip when i click any knobs on the effect lets say serum it doesn't automatically make a red automation line for me to make any automation line i have to right click and show automation it doesn't automatically pop up for me anymore does anybody know how to fix this Please help i have been trying to fix it all morning https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/automation-and-editing-envelopes/ i looked in here and couldn't find anything about how automation automatically turns on and off or how to change it
I'm using M-Audio keyboards but they don't seem to integrate well with ableton. I'm looking to get myself a new controller that makes for a smoother work flow. All I need are max 16 pads as well as up to 8 faders and knobs that map easily with ableton's tracks and built-in effects. What's your take on the Launchkey MK4 vs Arturia Keylab MK3? I do use the Arturia plug-ins. And what do you think of a separate controller just for the pads, faders and knobs? I only need it for production and not live performance. Thank and have good weekend everyone!
m1 mac monterey
ableton live 12.1.5
when I monitor my mic audio on logic pro, it was fine
my mic vocal chain is
waves cla-76
fabfilter pro-q3
saturn 2
send vintage valhalla reverb
send valhalla delay
but when i monitor on ableton, it's totally useless
usually ableton monitor system bad??
or what's problem?
Kinda like Karaoke. Possible? Thanks for any guidance.
Glenrock got hit with a power bump a few nights ago, which Glenrock is notorious for so I blame myself mostly, but this particular one did some damage to my computer. I'm no longer able to do anything on my Ableton software for music when I was able to run multiple tracks with plenty of plugins, and the performance of the computer itself has slowed down dramatically.
Basically, I'm asking if anyone knows if i should just factory reset altogether in hopes that it resets any damaged drivers, or if my computer is fried and i should just buy a new one (again smh lol), I just bought this one this year.
A. Buy a new computer B. Uninstall/reinstall Ableton or factory reset computer C. Buy a new version of Ableton D. Stop buying Windows computers lmao
Hi! I’m setting up a new MacBook and want to start fresh with a better system for organizing my files and samples while maximizing the use of the User Library. What’s the most efficient way to approach this? Are there any crucial settings I should configure to ensure files are saved correctly? In the past, I’ve struggled with saving too many versions or new ideas into the same project folder, and I’d like to avoid repeating that mistake. Would love to hear if anyone has the ultimate system—I have too many files and crave ORDER! :)
I was wondering about sequencers/generative tools made in m4l that would work in tandem with a controller. I made a few basic tool myself (a simple drum and a simple melody sequence for the novation launch control xl). With the plethora of cool devices that exist; including creative/generative tools; is there anything that works either with novation grid pads, or knobs controllers (or for push I'd imagine). I'm thinking anything from proability sequencer to stochastic. I have in mind what you can do with the oxi one; but integrated in live.
This is embarrassing, but i've been trying to do this for 3 days now. I know it's probably simple, but would somebody be able to help me?
I'm looking to have a MIDI track control the AutoTune on my vocal track. I've tried the sidechaining option, but I must be doing it wrong.

I am trying to use my push to sequence beats on my TR-08, but I am stuck on these melodic modes.
When i press the 'layout button' it only shifts through melodic modes. pls help
Hey all. Can someone please explain why, when I record a MIDI clip in the arrangement and double click it, the clip shows up as:
Starting on the wrong measure. I recorded at 1 in arrangement yet the clip starts at 2
Why there is MIDI data showing "before" the start point. (bottom left red square)
Thank you in advance. I'm struggling to understand this.
I am a beginner honestly, and I'm trying to push myself in order to learn new things. I'm wanting to produce 'The Neptunes' type Hip-hop/RnB beats and have consumed like shit tons of content from youtube regarding the same. I do have the sounds required for same as well, which is Korg Triton VST and drum kits. But I'm getting stuck again and again, all I can do for now is... produce similar drums. YouTube videos for the same are very less in number and some are too complicated for me while the other are just not too helpful. What can I do to move forward?
Side note; I know music theory, but I'm not very good with keys or even decent you say. Possibly which is contributing to the problem.
TLDR; How to make Neptunes' type beats? Drums keys everything.... Kinda stuck, also how do I start playing keys/chords etc.
Hi, I'm new to Live so please be bear with me.
I was trying to replicate a bassline so I imported the audio of a one in Ableton. Converted it to harmony Midi. When I play it and create notes manually, it plays the sound of the original bass even though I haven't armed anything on the track beyond the audio converted to midi and I don't have that sound on my machine.
So how is that possible that Ableton is able to replicate the sound of an instrument it doesn't have including for new notes?
Second, when I attempt to record notes via my midi controller, then nothing happens.
Anyone has a clue on what I'm doing wrong here?
Thank you so much. I've tried to search online, but no success.
arrangment view
With Live 12, the piano roll has been greatly improved with the scale option, the integrated MIDI transformation, being able to cut MIDI notes and I'm thankful for that.
Though, I personally find it still lacks some important features that would really change everything as it may be the major part we (or I?) use in Ableton.
Don't know if I'm alone thinking that would be a great improvement, but I really think it's the last thing Ableton really needs to outperform any other daw for composition and creation.
sorry for bad english, not my natural language
Hello. I checked the m4l devices but couldn't find anything. Chatgtp says that I could send midi out to a smart light. But what midi signal is the "recording"? I was thinking that if max knows that Ableton is recording, I might be able to call a smart light's http endpoint (if any).
I only want a short part of my song to play this sequencer midi clip I have but when I put it in arrangement view it won’t stop it plays from the beginning to the end even when assigning it to deactivate and even before any of the beats were drawn into the arrangement view? How do I clip just a short part of the sequencer in arrangement view? Help
I have a mac that I use for tracks, it is full, about maybe 700 tracks, set up in different projects, I use all of them during a gig ( projects that is not 700 tracks ) that is fine. I am getting another to run some new track projects with lights and video so want to keep it very tidy. I have maybe 20 tracks in mac 1 that I want in mac 2, can I connect the two machines with a thunderbolt cable and just drag the tracks I want in mac 2 across somehow, maybe just import them, will that work? I really dont want to have to copy whole projects then delete 90% of them.
I have an external hard drive that has been plugged into my iMac & tried duplicating it & putting it onto a new MacBook. Now when I try to open my .als files on my iMac all of my samples are offline & the songs are not loading. Can anyone please help? Trying to fix three years worth of work that seems to be gone.
I tend to use drum sampler right now with a separate track for each sample, but I see a lot of people do it the other two ways. Is there advantages for the other ways or should I stick to what I'm doing now?
