Specifically, explicitly, what do I need to do to play this game? It was almost my whole childhood, I would spend hours and days dissociating into the escapism of this game. And now that I'm an adult in a stable, happy, life I just want to play again for nostalgia. However, I just can't figure out how.

I read guides online and watch videos and they say things like "image this", "mount that" but I have no idea what that actually means in terms of what to click and/or type. Please help. I swear I am not stupid, I have two degrees but they are in zoology and biology but I just don't understand this. I just need explicit step-by-step instructions on what exactly to do to be able to play this game. I even bought a PC computer (in addition to my macbook) just to play this game because I heard it was easier. Please any help is appreciated.

It doesn't matter if they are old as I guess there are hardly any active series, but, I'm looking for a series of someone building a whole zoo with those mods that add walls and elevated paths (as roofs) I want to see how people use the mods and create new structures and buildings throughout a zoo instead of isolated habitats speed builds.

So, I'm getting into the game once again and this time I want it to be more Planet Zoo-ish so to say so I'm downloading extra fences and elevated paths to make roofs. I've watched some speedbuilds on YT of people building habitats and they have a gazillion items like different supports and "triangles" to cover the holes of the paths, etc. How can I look for all those items? Is it possible to just download a zip that has Zeta Designs, more benches, building sets, walls, rocks, etc?

After years of not playing I got into ZT1 again. (Played for 6 hours and forgot to save now I have to start anew :') ) I still love this game and my layout has improved so much. My visitors have much more space while my animals have bigger exhibits and less traffic in front of their windows. I also implemented paths for the zookeepers only, to reach the doors. There is little to no traffic. Not on the path, nor around it. Yet I always get the messages that my zookeepers can't reach the exhibit.

Again, there is literally nothing blocking the path nor the keeper, yet this message always comes up.

How did you handle the problem? Do you have a layout for that? Or is it just a general problem?

I'm playing ZT1 and my zoo is going pretty well, however I'm struggling to make money. Each month I go into about 12K debt then slowly claw it back to make around 15K by the end of each month. This means it takes ages to build exhibits as money is a constant issue. What should I be charging at the gate and restaurants to maximise profits? And how many zoo keepers and maintenance personal should I have per exhibit? Thanks.

So I've been trying to figure this out and nothing seems to be working. I have modded my ZT2, and I don't even have many mods on the game. I have Walking With Dinosaurs, Jurrassic World by Alvin Abreu, New Athens, the various pokemon made by Lily Valley, and Radical Remake. I've seen people with far more mods than me run the game just fine, but mine is crashing just randomly every time I get more than 6-8 enclosures done. Its also not connected to any mods or items or actions
I have the 4gb memory update too. So it should be running up to at least 4.
I've turned on my task manager to see if its cutting off at a certain memory usage and its not consistent at all so its not that either, but it's always under 1gb
I also tried compatibility mode, that also does not work. It makes it slower.

Anyone else had these issues? Anyone know a fix?

Is there a mod that removes the Expansion Pack limitations from scenarios? It always bothered me that you just can't use everything in every scenario. It's not like ZT2 where the expansions can break the gameplay balance, in zt1 It really just limits the fun from the game. Not to mention the silly situation it creates with the triceratops, if unlocked it is always available but you can't actually use them since you don't have access to Scientists and dino fences.

If there is no such mod yet then I am very willing to make it my self. How could I potentially make one? I know how to get into the ztd files, but what lines would I need to edit on the scenario files?

I've been trying to find a guide about how to maximize the tour ratings, since my usual resource (the complete game guide made by Soldyne) doesn't cover them.

Everything I see says that there's an excellent guide from Anyajoy on the Zoo Tycoon Unleashed Forums, but the forums are dead, along with the forum they moved to, and the original links that Soldyne included aren't available on the wayback machine.

I'd love a link to any guide that covers the ins and outs of tours and is live in 2024 😭

I'm playing one of the campaigns for an unlockable item, I think the blue whale hall, where your zoo is given an Orca named Arluq. After 3 months, if her social need isn't met, the game makes you release her to the wild to finish the scenario.

Getting a second Orca would mean getting to five stars which would be difficult on the limited cash I have. Right now the zoo is at three stars.

Is there a way to raise an Orca's social need without another Orca?

I have a vague memory of a hack that changed training of marine animals so that you only had to train them once in order to unlock a trick. Is it still around on a website somewhere? I did find a mod that made it easier, but you still had to train them at least three times to unlock the trick.

I unzipped the mods, brought over a mod file from my windows 10 computer through a flashdrive and put the folder on my windows xp computer. Found the programs files folder for my zt2 game on my xp computer and copy pasted the mod files into the game folder but they aren't showing up in game. What did I do wrong??? I'd love to use Zeta Designs, been wanting to try mods for this game for years but I've done everything I've seen online to do and I don't know what's going wrong 😕

Hi, I’ve started to play zoo tycoon 2 again and I have some questions. I wanted to play challenge mode, the one where you have unlimited funds and get challenges periodicaly, and I realized that I have very little objects. Most animals don’t have adequate shelters or toys and most biomes don’t have trees or flowers to put on the biome. I thought that you would have to investigate them but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Can anyone explain this to me please?

I'm revamping the Community Challenge page on the wiki and I am in need of images as apparently the Barbary Lion achievement image was the only one saved.
If someone happens to have done all the Community Challenges back in the day and knows how to get screenshots off of their console or at least record their Xbox One screen in HD so I can rip the images off of that, please message me!

And I have all of the base images for the rest, except for the "On The Brink Of Extinction" challenge. I could not find a single image for that community challenge that wasn't bigger than 100px, which is much too small for the wiki.

Edit: I uncovered more info for other Community Challenges that weren't on Achievements lists which include the January, March, April and May challenges. The March challenge is by far the most obscure as its only presence on the internet is a deleted video. February is a complete unknown as to if a challenge happened or not.

If anyone has any info at all that would be fantastic!

Edit 2: Somehow I managed to find high quality versions of almost all of the known challenge thumbnail images! Only three haven't been recovered yet, which are the "Tuungane Project Chimpanzees" "Stop the Poachers" and "Red Panda" ones. All that are missing now are the Achievement Images along with the three challenge thumbnail images and additional info! (as well as possible images for the undocumented challenges)

I just downloaded the game from many sites but when launches i get the same error: "Zoo tycoon 2 was unable to create graphics renderer" pleasee helpp!! I have directx12 dont know what to do!

I am currently having trouble to run the digital download of Zoo Tycoon 2: Ultimate collection I purchased from Amazon.

I managed to install the game without any problems. But every time I run either of the 2 exe files in the installation folder (Startup AND zt2.exe), I get the 0xc000007b error. I uninstall and reinstall the game several times, first tries were on the secondary drive, and then I tried on the main drive.

Hi I can only find mods on Zoo Tek Pheonix but I have to have an account to download anything and it says it's still pending approval from the websites admins. Soo.... anywhere else to get mods? I mostly was looking for fantasy animals.

A dinosaur zoo with just a few relatively large but docile herbivores, or maybe even just a single Camptosaurus at any one time on a small urban map like Excavation Zoo. Cheap or free admission, because the actual zoo is just a side hustle for the actual business. The zoo's main form of profit is a compost building, and the whole venture's primary purpose is essentially to farm dinosaur dung to sell to gardeners and farmers.

I like my zoos to have a little story with them. Another idea I had, inspired by a couple of videos based around achieving 1000 guests with a single gazelle, is a "zoo" which is essentially just a restaurant with a saltwater crocodile (or two, if needed to keep them happy) in a minimal enclosure as a side attraction. The story being that the crocodile is a rescue from a government culling program.

After playing zoo tycoon & zoo tycoon 2 years ago I recently managed to get zoo tycoon ultimate animal collection trough the Microsoft store ( it was discounted). And I really like it, even though it's a lot more simplified vs the older games.

My 9 y/o was in the hospital recovering from a ruptured appendix and the hospital had Zoo Tycoon on an Xbox. He fell in love with this game and I loved it too. I did a quick google and it doesn’t look like it is still being made. We have a PS and a switch. Is there anything comparable to this game? The version he played had realistic animals and it was just so freaking neat.

My zoo is almost bankrupt and I’m in full damage control. I fired all but 5 zookeepers and assigned each to 2 or 3 exhibits as recommended by many people in this community.

How many maintenance workers do I need? And what about trash cans? These stupid guests keep throwing up. You literally can’t hear one barf end before another begins. It’s crazy.

Please help me. I’ve invested my heart and soul into this zoo, and I don’t want to use the money cheat that breaks all the fences.

I saw someone else post their original Zoo Tycoon 2 game and wanted to share my own! Zoo Tycoon [1] complete collection came out in 2003. Still have both discs which include Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs. And yes, it runs perfectly well on the gaming laptop I bought a few years ago, just popped it into a disc reader and was able to start playing like I never stopped! I’ve never played Zoo Tycoon 2 but it seems like it had a lot of cool features!

I’m new here but I desperately want to play Zoo Tycoon again! I’m not tech savvy and my only options to play are my MacBook Air with the latest operating system and a Nintendo Switch. Is it at all possible to play Zoo Tycoon?

I had Zoo Tycoon + Zoo Tycoon 2 on CD-ROM but no longer have them, and plus they were PC games (and my MacBook doesn’t even have a disc drive lmao).
