Subreddit Rules

1) reddiquette is required

Trolling, insults, or antagonism towards the subreddit participants, the moderators, or even the community itself may result in a ban. Discuss and express opinions about our topic but avoid making attacks / disparaging remarks. Due to site rules, site content policy, and that reddiquette is a rule here, we extend the rules against brigading to also mean; DO NOT encourage others to brigade a post / comment / account / person. Suggestions of "go check out their history" WILL be removed. Repeat suggestions/implications to do so will result in a ban.

2) No mixtape / compilations

Mixtape and Compilation submissions are too often spam / promotion attempts, mix regions, and override the point of the post format intent for sharing region of origin and artist / song information.

3) Posting Format

Post submissions should use one of the following formats;

  • music posts: WMMusic [ONE Country/Region] Artist - Song (any other comments)
  • news posts: WMNews - Title
  • event posts: WMEvent [Country/Region] Date of Event - Event Title
  • artist info posts: WMArtist Artist Name - Title

If practicable use the name of the country/region eg China not Chinese. This will make it easier to search. It should only state ONE country or region which best identifies either the music source or the location of the recording.

Posts not using the proper format may be removed

4) Self-promotion is restricted

Post attempts will result in a removal and ban which come from accounts showing sole or predominant use to promote an artist, group, site, service, survey, market research, kickstarter or other fundraising, video or audio channel, or social media account. You MUST submit a variety of sources / artists here. A 10:1 ratio is required, meaning you must submit 10 posts to content which you not are affiliated with before each time you submit something you are affiliated with. No exceptions.

5) New and Low/No karma accounts are restricted

Posts from these types of accounts most often violate rules OR they involve spam / self-promotion.

New accounts may not post in this subreddit but may participate in the comments. Take the time to get to know the site and this community.

Low / No karma accounts are not able to post or comment in this subreddit.

Songs like "Eternal Return" & "Act II: The Invocation"

I'm completely obsessed with "Eternal Return" by Irfan & "Act II: The Invocation" by Dead Can Dance. Incredible vocals on both tracks, but it's the instrumentation I love.

Can anyone suggest other artists or songs to check out?

My Thoughts After Listening to Contemporary Music Concerts

It was a great honour for me to come to the concert hall to listen to the concert of the Ensemble Dmew - "Chinese Music to World" Series. I was exposed to lots of new playing techniques and broadened my horizon of contemporary music. Meanwhile, it's my first time to meet with those friends of Dmew at offline✌🏼. I wish you all the best in your studies!

Recommendations for Cantor Music and Other Jewish Religious Music

Hi, I didn't know what would be the appropriate subreddit for this post but will give music a shot. As a secular Jew, I have fallen in love with cantorial music. I knew about Klezmer, but I didn't realize my people's religious music contained so much of the soul, beauty, and mystery that's in Indian classical music, gospel and Arab music.

However, I can only find quality recordings of old cantors-I understand this was the cantorial golden age (e.g. Yossele Rosenblatt) but would love to discover more modern (as in postwar or later) and better recorded great cantorial music. I also would just appreciate recommendations for people's favorite Jewish religious and cantor music, even if it is older as I am knew to thus wonderful music.

Thank you :)

"World Music" as ethnic music sounds in modern songs

Hello dears. I hope this is ok to post here. I am in search of new music recommendations for my very specific taste. AI tools couldnt help me so I have come here. I love music that incorporates or is created around different ethnic instruments, sounds and songs of around the world. It could be an indie take on it, an electronic dance music take on it or a hiphop take on it, it doesn't matter. But I have been struggling to find new pieces that REALLY hit at my heartstrings because that actually doesn't happen often. So please, I beg you, share with me your recommendations that are similar to these couple of songs that hit that ethno spot for me perfectly (hopefully):

Nujabes - Far fowls https://youtu.be/vBgrnc--T-k?si=nu6MJu1QcddKPxHB

Joezi - Amathole ft.Lizwi https://youtu.be/Bf0A-V4_JQc?si=Z0CSr0VonIxhC5wF

Need the name of this song

Hi, there's this video on YouTube by Riz Ahmed called "The Breakup (Shikwa)" and I'm pretty sure it's NFAK's vocals in the background but I dont know what song it is or what the sample music is. Can anyone help me?

It would be a great help as my grandfather is a really big fan of NFAK and asked me to find out the name of the song played in the background. Thanks!

Trying to "loosen" vocal performance -- African/Latin suggestions?

Hello all, have a question related to my own musical performance. I'm working with a vocal coach who wants me to "un-stick" myself from the confines of staying within rhythm too strictly. I suggested that reviewing African or Latin music would be a great place to start. However, I'm not sure what to investigate for vocal-specific improvements. I do have several favorites, such as:

C.K. Mann & His Carousel 7 (Ghana)

El Rego et Seis Commandos (Benin)

Bio Ritmo (Puerto Rico, I think)

Perez Prado (Dominican Republic/Cuba (?))

Lots of different Afro-funk from the 60s and 70s

William Oneyabor (Nigeria)

If anyone could please share some resources, hopefully vocal-specific, that I could use to get started, I (and my audience) would appreciate it! Thank you much.
