Season 2, episode 4
A curious detail that makes the series all the better for me is the relationship/status differences between Alanna and her two warders.
When Ihvon is meditating with Lan, he first laughs at Lan's belief that warders can be equal to their Aes Sedai before going on to delineate the role Warders play as one that is inferior to that of the sisters they protect. It feels as if Ihvon truly believes himself inferior to Alanna.
Then when Maksim leads Alanna to Lan's room, notice his gesture as he directs Alanna to Lan's saddlebags to retrieve the letter? It feels as if he is telling on Lan to his mom or someone higher than him.
Jordan's work would always try to emphasize the surbodinate-superior relationship between Aes Sedai and their warders. If my memory serves me right, there is a phrase somewhere in the books where one Aes Sedai emphasizes/admonishes another that men are as children with dangerous toys that must be kept away from them until they are fit to receive them from their Aes Sedai. Was it Jahar Narishma being referred to in one of the books?
In any case, I love that the series directors or the cast themselves displayed this relationship. It only demonstrates why Lan and Moraine deserved to lead in the fight against the Dark. They had pulled themselves out from the mire of millennia of belief in what 'should be' and instead, focused on what was most important in their lives and fight against the Dark.
What Nynaeve says to Egwene upon her initiation to the Women's Circle has been bugging me: "To be a woman is to be alone and never alone." The Wheel of Time doesn't seem to have any misogyny like our society does, and Egwene was just let into a women-only governmental group, why say that? Women have a strong sense of community within the world, it seems. And although the world isn't completely matriarchal, women hold a lot of power and sway, so that quote sort of sticks out to me. Why are women alone if they are held equal to men? It'd make sense if women were somehow looked down upon and sought support from each other, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
EDIT: I read a bit about the history of the thread, and this is purely from a curious perspective, didn't mean to scare anyone lmao. Thank you for the responses so far! I was wondering if this was a show-only quote or if the books had some insight to the implication of this.
Like I don’t mean to offend Barney Harris but his portrayal of Mat made me really dislike him from the get go even though I adored him while reading the books. Dónal Finn totally redeemed the character in S2. I don’t have much details as to why they recasted him but I’m so glad they did.
Hashtags under this Instagram post revealing this image from the Trailer is in Tel'aran'rhiod as many have speculated
this post on Aviendha’s possible plot prompted me to share the metadata from the 1st look file names, and what can actually be gleaned from this info!
To start: Episode source for each Still can be determined from the “30X” portion of the name, so
Episode 1:
Episode 2:
Episode 4:
Episode 6 still:
Episode 8 still:
So that’s each episode for each still, what else can we learn?
Four of them have the actual filming date in the name too! This can be somewhat useful or relevant knowledge, as we know that the reshoots / last round of filming in South Africa wrapped around March 2024, and wrapped in Prague around Sept/Oct 2023
Interestingly enough, those 4 stills also have completely different aspect ratios to the 6 without dates, which leads to one other detail about those 6: the aspect ratios are much closer to the aspect ratio used in the Teaser, and 5 of them all actually have the word “still XXXX” in the file name.
Further, the 4 dated stills all have the file name prefix WOFT_S3_UT, while the 6 undated stills share the file name prefix WOFT_S3_FG
This difference aspect ratio & file naming together makes me believe that the other 6 stills not listed above with the filming date are likely pulled directly from the FULL TRAILER (which I personally anticipate coming out within the next 2 weeks).
And… that’s all I got personally! If anyone else has any other thoughts or suggestions based on this info, please feel free to share your theories!
Elayne and Aviendha share a drink
Mat, Nynaeve and Min with another man, possibly Juilin Sandar or Hadnan Kadere based on speculation
Where is Aviendha going in season 3?
It seems obvious at first that Aviendha will stick to her story in the books - that she is capable of channeling and has an obligation to her people to give up the spear and become a Wise One, that she is assigned by the Wise Ones to teach Rand the ways of the Aiel with the ulterior motive that Rand falls in love with her to create emotional bonds between him and the Aiel - but these photos have me thinking she may go to Tanchico.
In these photos we have seen Elayne, Nynaeve, Mat (characters we know are going to Tanchico) and Min (we suspect going to Tanchico) wearing new costumes that are very different from anything else they've worn previously. They have bright, warm, red/orange/gold costumes with distinct geometric patterns, made of materials that seem suited to warmer weather than everything they've worn in the past. Nynaeve, Mat, and Min are all wearing these outfits together in one shot (an exterior shot that looks like a tavern courtyard/busy street).
In a separate shot, Elayne is wearing an outfit very similar to Nynaeve and Mat's, with Aviendha wearing cadin'sor, in what looks like a tavern interior. It makes sense that Elayne is wearing these new clothes at the same time as Nynaeve and Mat, in Tanchico. Which would place Aviendha in Tanchio as well...
We suspect that elements of Ebou Dar may be combined with Tanchico, and Aviendha does show up in Ebou Dar...
Granted, we've never seen Elayne dress outside of novice white or the clothes she wore to hide in Falme, but this doesn't look like what I thought the Daughter-Heir of Andor would wear, and we've now seen how her mother dresses and it is very different from that Elizabethan meets Queen of Hearts style.
Could Aviendha actually be going to Tanchico? If she is going to become a Wise One, now is the only time it makes sense to do that storyline - I don't think we'll be in the Waste much if at all in a possible S4. I honestly understand if they cut Aviendha's channeling from the show (there are too many women channelers coincidentally more powerful than almost anyone else born more than 20 years ago already, and I think she can be a potent and interesting character without channeling) but she makes sense as Rand's window into the Aiel mind, and I'm also not sure what they would do with her if she went to Tanchico now.
Alternatively, this could all just be a tavern scene in Tar Valon before the party splits up, and they're wearing fun new robes after going shopping for their big Tanchico trip...
What do you think?
Random question, I just realized the background of the sub is a diversity flag. I have nothing against it, but just found it kind of unusual and was confused by it. I know WoT touches on many of these themes, but it’s not like this is a sub that focuses on sexual identity or sexuality. Is this just an indicator that everyone is welcome?
Started watching this show (just finished s1ep1) and im sooo confused. I have no background about the books and tried to keep my googling to a minimum while watching. Will things become clearer later on or should i at least had some knowledge about wot world before starting?
Has Loial been in ANY of the material released so far??? Tell me he's in the next season?
Why Are Shows Taking So Long to Make?
I found this video very interesting and thought to share. It does not mention Wheel of Time speciffically, but there are many other shows having the same issues ...
Two statements that standout to me are:
This news also marks the new year’s return of #WOTWednesdays, a fan-favorite weekly reveal of news and assets leading up to the show’s season premiere.
While we've been getting some drops the last few Wednesdays, it's nice to know that we can officially expect things every Wednesday from now on.
Second bit, which IMO is really promising for a renewal (or several more)... emphasis mine:
The Wheel of Time series on Prime Video has solidified its place as a monumental success for the platform. Based on Robert Jordan's beloved and epic fantasy book series, the show weaves a tale of magic, destiny, and adventure that has captured the imagination of fans worldwide. In 2021, Season One launched as the biggest original series debut in Prime Video history at the time, excelling in both reach and subscriber acquisition. It continues to remain among the top three series debuts of all time on Prime Video behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout. Overall, the show has generated over 100 million viewers worldwide to-date. Additionally, both Seasons One and Two are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, further cementing the show's critical acclaim. The Wheel of Time serves as a cornerstone of Amazon MGM Studios' suite of successful, high-quality tentpole fantasy series, and together, these series underscore the studio's leadership in delivering premium storytelling to a global audience.
Obviously, we can't count our chicks before they hatch, but would Amazon really market a show it's about to cancel" as a "cornerstone" of the content library they are building?
Considering how much red tape and bureaucracy there is in a corporation as large as Amazon, there's no way these sentences/claims got approved/let alone published, unless they are true and representative of Amazon's feelings.
Right?
Or am I being naive?
I'm currently reading the 5th book, and hoping to be finished by the time season 3 starts. Are there any spoilers in the season 3 trailer that might spoil book 5 for me? Discretion appreciated!
Whatever criticisms of the writing you have set aside, I think the show suffers from an environment where the backlash to “woke” gets people to assume that diversity in casting automatically means “the show is woke” or “emasculating Rand.”
However, if this really is Rand’s season to shine (I’m looking at you, HWTWTD) as well as a handoff season, doesn’t this dispel either of those notions? And prove that the show’s strategy was to do a slow build with Rand, not “rewrite the core of the story?”
So I'm watching Dune and it seems these women and the Aes Sedai have a lot in common.
Sisters, accolytes, novices.
Politics. Power. Sects within the tower.
Idk I feel like Dune has done a great job of describing the tower's model.
Imagine my surprise when I’m scrolling through TikTok & I’m like “why does this Irish Orpheus look so familiar” and then it’s Mat from Wheel of Time. Hadestown fan base please join us because I need this show to keep going.
Any music nerds out there enjoying the hell out of the music for Wheel of Time and looking forward to see what Lorne Balfe has done for season 3?
Saw a video on YouTube earlier showing some amazing Bulgarian folk music and quite a few sections of that were very reminiscent of some music from the show.
Anyway, I’ll try to link here but the guy is Charles Cornell on YouTube if you want to check it out.
