I was just listening to 'Onyx' by the legendary CoLD SToRAGE and realised it was probably the first piece of music I ever heard from the franchise. I got WipEout Pure for Christmas on the PSP about fifteen years ago (2009/2010) and the first race I ever played in that game was a standard Vector class single race on Vineta K. Not even sure what craft I picked, but I think it was AG Systems. I remember going into the underwater tunnels for the first time with Onyx playing in the background and just marveling at the graphics. That's when I knew I was hooked, and I still play these games all these years later.
What about you? Do you remember your first experience with the WipEout series?
Hope you enjoy :)
Ordered the art book a while ago and it just arrived
Logo design for Wipeout Alpha Collection.
After looking at some gameplay of Wipeout 2097, I was wondering something. Looking on the Wiki, I found nothing about the timer on the ships. I understand the purpose of the timer in those games was to keep you moving, similar to the same mechanic in arcade racers in actual arcades. But is there a lore explanation for having a ticking time bomb on your ship? Why did the officials at the F5000 and the F7200 think that was a good idea? To add extra excitement for the crowds, perhaps? Why did they remove it for the F9000?
For some ungodly reason, the ship constantly drifts to the right when letting go of the control stick after a right turn. Furthermore, whenever trying to go back into the Time Trial Challenges menu, the game locks up without fail, preventing me from selecting the Gold challenge (since I saved it for last). These issues have plagued me across Mupen64Plus, Project64 and ParaLLEl, even when enabling all the LLE options I could find. I'm just assuming Wipeout 64 itself is cursed and I'm refusing to play the game again until I have some sort of answer to stop the bugs.
Huge fan of wipeout 64 and wipeout 3 back in the day. Also enjoyed fusion, although I preferred the airbrake physics in the older titles. Just bought my first current gen console in over a decade and thinking about getting back into wipeout, but the barrel rolling off jumps just seems dumb to me. Will I get over it?
Update: thanks for the feedback guys! I will definitely be checking out the new games. Expected to get ignored and I’m really enjoying the discussion. Didn’t expect to get ratioed though lol!
Update 2: to clarify I don’t mind the idea of a skill based mechanic that gives you a boost off a jump. It’s the animation that bothers me.
So I've been looking high and low for any games that is like a g racing the only thing I've come anywhere close to it is called riptide RG: renegade pretty much the same concept but on water without ever leaving the surface can someone please help me cuz apparently wipe out merge will not run on my phone because it's apparently an old app(solved)
Is It ok if I only use Feisar on Wipeout Pure
As the title says, what's the best game in the series. My first wipeout game was Pure on the PSP i also played Pulse (PSP) I just want to know wich one i should olay next
• Default camera view is “Internal,” but it's actually the FPV of the pilot in the cockpit. Close and Far 3rd person views and the “classic” internal view (front of the ship) are still available though.
• No weapons, boost pads, sideshifts, barrel rolls, or magnetic tracks that go sideways and upside down (the tracks would be more in the style of the first game.)
• Instead, the fun of the races is in mastering the racing strategies/tactics. For example:
Instead of just pressing accelerate right as the race begins to get a boost, the acceleration system from the original games would return where you have to build up your acceleration meter prior to the race starting to get a good head start.
Adjusting pitch along the track would be critical again; pulling up when you're going uphill or over a jump, pulling down when going downhill. Do it incorrectly, and you lose some speed.
Rather than worrying about damage, you have to worry about your engine's fuel reserves. When it gets low, you have to go through the pit lane to refuel.
• Campaign would have you create your own pilot and choose a team to enter a qualifying race to compete for their sponsorship. Then you'd go through various Anti-Gravity Racing Leagues/Seasons that work like Tournaments, each getting faster in speed class.
• Only Racebox modes are Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, and Speed Lap.
• A new mechanic would be modification, allowing you to tune your ship's airbrakes (stopping power, cornering power,) engine (top speed, acceleration,) and body (aerodynamics.) Plus cosmetic customizations like liveries, and also your Pilot's racing suit and helmet.
I have no PC available right now to patch Pulse myself. Does someone have a patched ISO that they can share with me?
I absolutely adore the Tracks Cold Storage made for 2097 / XL and actually think they are more fitting then the licensed ones sony used in the end.
And the only version to have these I know of is the sega saturn but it runs very badly perfomance wise. Does anyone have Ideas? maybe mod it or something haha?
This is my humble WipEout collection!
WipEout masterfully blended rave culture with an action-packed racing game, and I fell in love instantly. From the bangin' electronic music to the iconic collaboration with The Designer's Republic, which gave it that authentic rave flyer vibe, every aspect was captivating.
I really wish I had the original box and manual for the Sega Saturn version of WipEout. Also, the two ships sitting on the game boxes are Totaku figurines from GameStop. Sadly, their little stands broke.
My favorite is the cardboard long box version of the first WipEout; it's a relic from an early era of PlayStation history that I remember foldly. Anyway, game on, fellas!
Still can't believe WipEoutXL / 2097 is on Xbox now. What a bizarre situation!
I know it's a shady release but hey, if anything- maybe it'll wake Sony up as to the importance of this franchise.
Hey pilots, hope you're all well! I'm in need of some help. My birthday is this month and my brother's asked what I'd like for it, I've said a massive mouse pad! Specifically, I'd like a massive mouse pad that's WipEout themed 👌
I've been scouring the web for suitably hi-res images (the site is asking for 2000x2000 so around that figure should be fine) and can't seem to find all that many. If you guys could drop all the hi-res WipEout stuff you're willing to share here into this post it'd be greatly appreciated. My favourite team is Feisar, and aesthetically WipEout 3, HD, and 2048 are my favourites.
Thank you!
Stop buying the "WipEout XL Port".
There is no port for WipEout 2097 on the Xbox. It is an emulator. It is not a fan project. It is not from the Forest of Illusion source code leak (which was for the first WipEout, specifically on MS-DOS). It's not "accurately recreated with attention to detail". It is an emulator bundled with a ROM that was illegally distributed.
Most emulators are free, libre software, with public source code. You can legally get a complete Playstation emulator and sell it. Legitimate game developers have done this before to repackage old ROMs they own the rights to on Steam.
What is ILLEGAL is selling a game you do not own.
By paying 15 USD / 20 pounds for this, you are being SCAMMED.
- Microsoft could be forced to take the game away from you at any time and is not obligated to refund you.
- Sony & US govt do not screw around with this sort of thing.
- Sending money to LLS Games means you are rewarding someone for theft, and they will continue to sell work they do not own.
- You can install emulators for free on your Xbox. Microsoft sells access to developer mode for a one-time fee. Instead of giving money to a freeloader, you could use that money to unlock officially endorsed access to homebrew and install the emulators yourself. You do not need to hack your console either. It isn't even hard to do.
This whole thing was bad enough that AG Racing Central had to take down his video covering it because his whole comments section interpreted it as an advertisement. (no hard feelings to him, as I do not think it was intentional)
I don't condone piracy, but it is seriously more morally acceptable to copy these games yourself for free than to give money to a "fan" trying to profit off of it. Also, you can still find copies of the original WipEout trilogy on eBay and those are legal, pressed copies from Sony. Some of them are victims of scalping but if you just want a usable copy of the game you can get a CD for the same $15.
P.S. If it was not obvious from the store page, the person who is selling this is not even familiar with the source material. Rainbows everywhere? "Legends of the Arcade?" What? LLS Games is just trying to nostalgia-bait fans of a dead franchise. Your wallets speak volumes: do not give your money to LLS Games.
