/r/WildCampingAndHiking
r/WildCamping is a community to discuss all aspects of wild camping away from established campsites, whether you are someone who practices Bushcraft and likes to spend a few nights in a natural setting after a long days walk or a hiker who needs to pitch up in the hills.
What unites this sub is the desire for a more natural experience and an appreciation of the "wild" outdoors.
Scope:
What unites this sub is the love of a more natural experience, a love of being outdoors (both natural or urban environments) and a love for doing things a bit differently - whether that's camping away from campsites, sleeping on a park bench or taking a route between locations which may not have been traversed for a very long time.
This subreddit is a community to discuss all aspects of being outdoors including trip reports, gear reviews, stealth tactics and general principles as well as suggested or interesting routes.
This community is mostly aimed at the Europeans to meet the needs of Europeans, although we will never turn away our non-European brothers and sisters!
Do not use this subreddit to suggest good camping locations to other users – such comments will be removed as per the rules. It is better to teach people the principles and provide them with the knowledge so that they can discover perfect locations for themselves.

Have you ever visited this area? With my video I wish to provide a relaxing option to those who are stuck inside, maybe due to work, bad weather, severe cold or anything really. If you are a bit like me, you are probably watching outdoor videos during your free time too, so I hope this brings you joy, as much as we enjoyed hiking in the autumn forest.
Hey guys! I have been planning a long term wild camping adventure for around a year now, with routes and ideas somewhat planned out, but I really would love a team mate/partner to do this with! Is there anyone out there who wants to get away for a mega long time and go on the ultimate adventure around the UK and Europe? I know I’m being vague but can discuss more in depth via messenger! I’m 30 and just looking to use my wild camping past to have a life changing experience and film the lot! Hope to hear from you:)
Hey guys. For the next year, a friend and I are planning to camp in the nature for a few days. We are looking for a good spot/region in Sweden, Norway oder Finland for this and I hope to get some recommendations from you. Our only requirements for the spot are that it is close to water and a forest and it should be reachable with a 1-3 h hike from public transport. Thanks in advance!
Pessoal que pratica camping preciso da ajuda de vcs. Tô desenvolvendo um projeto pra faculdade relacionado a camping e preciso que vocês opinem nesse questionário sobre banho nesses espaços! Agradeço muito se puderem participar.
Hi everyone ,
I have wild camped twice before and absolutely loved it . I really want to give my younger cousins this experience and have volunteered to take them on their first wild camping trip. They’re proper city mouse’s all living in London aged 18-21 . I don’t want to scare them off with a really tough trail .
This is a 1 night trip and I want to do a relatively short trail (potentially an easy summit too if possible) . And a place to set up our wild camping tents, near a lake of some sort or a place with a beautiful view. Please give me any suggestions I would so greatly appreciate it. We are done for literally anywhere in Snowdonia as I already have all the waterpoof OS MAPS covering the whole national park. We have a car so am willing to park as close to the summit as legally possible ofc. Do not want to break any wild camping rules or anything .
The plan is to get them hooked and then I will build up to harder and longer trips across the years.
Hey everyone,
I’m would like to plan my first-ever hiking trip with bivouac this fall and could really use some advice on how to get started. Does anyone have recommendations for apps, websites, or books that can help me plan my route and find good bivouac spots?
Since I’m a complete beginner, I’d also love some suggestions for easy-to-moderate trails if got anything in mind.Plus, any practical tips on gear, and how to leave no trace, would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance for your tips and recommendations
Hello Campers,
I just saw that Coleman and Rocksport are organizing a camping event, and I believe it’s the perfect experience for campers like us. I just wanted to share it with my Reddit family!

Hey everyone,
I live in Germany and absolutely love hiking. I’ve explored many trails, especially in Southern Germany and the Alps. Now, I want to take it a step further and try wild camping. I know that wild camping is technically illegal in Germany, but I’m hoping to find some discreet spots where others have had good experiences.
If anyone has recommendations for peaceful, secluded spots in the South or the Alpine region, I’d really appreciate it!

Having a conversation with fellow hikers/outdoor enthusiasts and got into a hot debate.
If you had to apply to get a certificate with evidence for climbing particular summits/routes/challenges like all the wainwrights/munroes/welsh 3000s or like the 3 peaks in 24 hours, and in return received maybe a patch or something, would you do it?
If not, why?
Some points we discussed:
What do you think?
Hello guys, i am currently planning my first ever hike. I´ll be headed to Scotland. Me and my cousin are comming from Oporto (Portugal) and have an entire week (8 days). Do you have any interesting spot recomendations such as cool ruins/trails/water bodies for us ? We were thinking about going to "The Quiraing" (4 days, 3 nights) and the "Hidden Valley" (3 days, 3 nights).
Also, we are having quite trouble on how to go from Edimburg to Portree, is the bus/train a good option? Should we depart from glasgow/london(?) instead ?
Thank you for the help :)
Non state/national parks to backpack in Texas?
Hi 👋 there Looking for some recommendations on places to backpack in Texas that are maybe not state or national parks, reason is I would like to film some drone footage while there and usually that’s a no no in parks. I think they call this “primitive” backpacking or “wilderness” backpacking. It’s definitely not a deal breaker if there are none. I’m thinking of going around mid October for 2-3 days. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Happy trails
Hi, I am searching for a 3/4 day secluded hike route past a lake to swim in and bivouac at. Preferably also some hilly/mountinas areas. Are there some in central/west Europe? Scandinavia and GB/Scotland are sadly out of the option:(
Hey guys, I’m looking for somewhere to go Friday night in the North east of England, anyone have any recommendations of where?
No Forests though
Thankyou!
Hi, does anyone know any suitable pretty outdoor camping locations between uddevalla and strönstad to stay for 1-2 nights? For 2 small tents would be super
Does anyone know a good hikingtrail in the alps sround germany and austria? Should take 2 to 4 days with wilcamping included
Because that's what it seems like to me.
Despite my best efforts, I got bit by a tick and didn't notice until the spot became super inflamed and painful. I wasn't worried because it had gone down in a few days and stopped hurting, but maybe a week or so now, it's inflamed but not stiff. It looks like a blood blister to me and it's suuuuuper painful.
Just curious if I should mosey on to the doctor for this...? Any advice?
Apologies if this isnt the right sub for this post; Im really hoping Im not misunderstanding the rules!
Im currently resting after my latest hiking trip with some wicked muscle soreness and Im really in the mood for a good tv-show about challenging hiking and wildcamping but Im struggling to find anything thats informative. Theres just too many shows where people do idiotic and/or wildly dangerous trips with not enough experience seemingly for the drama and I really want to see people do trips I can learn from. Any recommendations?
hey! I'm going to the dolomites with my friends the 21th for some days, and we would like do a lil wild camping, i know it is a very touristic area so I'm wondering were is it "safe" to do, to not get moved on or worse, fined. i have seen some people on the internet camping at the "tre cime di lavaredo" and we would really like to spend a night there! any of you know a good spot there, so we do not disturb others / get noticed in a wrong way? since its the first time in the dolomites, i really don't know how the whole wild camping stuff is seen / accepted.
P.S we will be camping with 2 small 2 man tent and ofc we are all about respecting the place and leaving it as we found it, so if any of you all can help us find places to have a great time in the nature wile being discreet and not disturb anything/anyone i would really appreciate : )
I am brand new to hiking and have only ever camped on commercial pre made camp sites and a few times on a relatives property that I no longer have access to.
I've done a little bit of research and I'm lead to believe I can just pick a trail in a national forest and as long as I follow park rules and don't do anything stupid, I can walk 4 miles of an 8 mile trail, camp out there for a day or so as long as im not directly on the trail or seen from the trail, then finish the hike and leave without any problems?
And if this does happen to be the case I live in lower Alabama and would like to hear any recommendations for any forests or spots near there, I don't mind paying a fee if I have to, I just want to get away from being clustered with a bunch of people and able to enjoy actual peace.
Currently considering bankhead national forest if what I'm lead to believe is correct. Thank you for the read/help in advance.
So it was my birthday the other day and I got a few bits of kit for wild camping, I’ll list what I’ve got and I’d appreciate if you could let me know if I need anything else • 65L rucksack • 1 man tent • small pots & pans • 2 mesh tins • head torch •sleeping bag •self inflating sleep mat •1L water bottle •stove + gas •dry bag •water proof tarp just incase • dehydrated food • water proof jacket+bottoms
Is there anything else I need or anything i shouldn’t take with me?
I am going to spend a week in the mountains of France near Chamonix but I have not been able to find any clear information about wild camping in the mountains. I am going to visit the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval region. Maybe someone can help me. Thanks
Hi all,
I’m looking to go backpacking in Pembrokeshire doing the coastal path. The idea is also to wild camp and move around for about 4 days.
Has anyone done it and how easy is to find wild camping spots not too far out from the paths?
I’ve done wild camping in Ireland, but I know in Wales it’s a bit stricter and not sure how easy it is.
Thanks!
I'm looking for a cycling bottle with integrated water filter in the cap that will fit a bottle cage - I currently have a Hydropal that's a few years old but I think the filter is probably now ineffective.
Would like it to be squeezable so I can collect from streams and fill other bottles while touring. UK based but happy to buy worldwide as long as they ship!
I'm looking for places accessible by train or shortly flying from The Netherlands since there is nothing here.
In a meta-irony, an article about access/right to roam/wild camping is not behind a pay-wall today....
You may enjoy the read.
