/r/WildCamping
r/WildCamping is a community to discuss all aspects of wild camping away from established campsites, whether you are a cyclist who needs to pitch up quickly near a long distance route, someone who practices Bushcraft and likes to spend a few nights in a natural setting, a stealth camper looking a low key experience in urban areas, or a hiker who needs to pitch up in the hills.
What unites this sub is the desire for a more natural experience and an appreciation of the "wild" outdoors.
Scope:
What unites this sub is the love of a more natural experience, a love of being outdoors (both natural or urban environments) and a love for doing things a bit differently - whether that's camping away from campsites, sleeping on a park bench or taking a route between locations which may not have been traversed for a very long time.
This subreddit is a community to discuss all aspects of being outdoors including trip reports, gear reviews, stealth tactics and general principles as well as suggested or interesting routes.
Do not use this subreddit to suggest good camping locations to other users – such comments will be removed as per the rules. It is better to teach people the principles and provide them with the knowledge so that they can discover perfect locations for themselves.

I'm doing a project around the context of camping please answer this survey about a problem faced during camping. Please only answer the survey if you have been camping.
Tom Davies aka Geowizard has successfully completed a straight line mission across Wales. (Also done in other countries)
Meaning he could not deviate from a straight line.
25m platinum, 50m gold.
I would highly recommend watching him on YouTube. Hes attempted it 3 times before.
There is wild camping and hints and tips on there! Definitely recommend watching him on YouTube if you've not heard of him.
I am going on my first wild camp tonight, I have all my gear packed and I am absolutely buzzing for it.
I just wanted to see if anyone on here has used the Phoxx 2v2 in medium to high winds, I can’t find what winds it can withstand online anywhere.
I can see articles saying as long as it is less than 30-40mph should be fine.
Just wanted to see if anyone had hands on experience with this.
Thanks for your help :D

I want to plan a 1 week wild camping and backpacking trip in Scotland this summer, either end of July or in August.
I've only been wild camping before for 1 night max, and because of that I wanted to create a route where I could sleep in hostels or B&B's for a night and restock everything before going back to camping. I've never created a route from scratch before, so I'm asking for some suggestions on cool routes and areas around Scotland on this subreddit, and I don't have any preference on where. I only chose Scotland because I've been there before, but that's it.
Right now I have a 50L backpack, a 0°C sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, a gas stove, cooking pot, head lantern and flashlight and the tent I currently use is a 2 person Decathlon tent I share with a friend of mine, but I can and want to buy a new tent. All bought on Decathlon and pretty beginner stuff. I don't have a water filter yet, but I plan on getting one before the trip.
So, the questions I wanted to ask are:
- What are some safe and beginner friendly routes and spots around Scotland?
- What kind of equipment do I need to buy?
- What kind of water filter is good for this type of trip?
Thank you very much!
Hi, I'm starting a project around the context of camping. If you have been camping i would appreciate if you could answer my short survey. (Updated Survey)

Hello!
Planning on doing a small bike trip to france. Ill be setting off from London to catch the ferry down in Dover. Im going to go at a leisurely pace as it is my first time, so was thinking I would spend 2 nights camping in England.
I have wild camped before in France before with a friend, but he was experienced and I kind of just followed his lead which made things a piece of cake. I am quite nervous about doing this alone, so was just wondering what spots you would recommend. I have heard good things about Blean Woods, so maybe that could be 1 of the spots? It does go a little far north, but I do have time to do some detours seeing as I've given myself 2 nights to do this.
I have attached a rough route of the path ill be going on. I don't mind going off track a fair bit, like I said as I have the time it isnt an issue. I am definitely valuing safety/cover/secludedness over a view this time! Would be good to just have a straightforward experience being my first-time solo. I think if I get spooked or busted the first time that might be it for me haha.
Thank you in advance!
Me and my friend will be wild camping in France (near montpellier) for a week and a half and are wondering what to do about this issue? Do we bring a trowel, hope the area has enough public toilets?
Hey guys
I've been in Thailand for just over a month most of which I have spent up north. I've done some camping up there and I'm currently backpacking with a tent and all my sleeping gear. I have a driver license so I can scooter or drive to more remote locations easily.
I'm currently headed to Krabi and I'd love to do some wild beach camping it camping in the jungle. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
I don't really want to stay in a campsite I'd rather drive somewhere out of the way and sleep on a small beach, patch if grass etc.
Is this legal for the most part? I've also heard the monkeys in southern Thailand are a little more agressive, I'm not worried about getting hurt but will they screw with my tent at night?
Also if anyone knows if there are any islands that allow this that would be IDEAL. I won't be advertising any of these locations afterwards this is just for myself.
If anyone has any experience doing something like this let me know how it went for you!
Thank you

Hi all! I’m new to wild camping and am planning on sleeping a couple of nights in the wild during our trip to Ireland this September. I’m so excited and I can’t wait!
We’re going to do a light version of backpacking: sometimes we’ll go for a hotel or hostel, other times we’ll walk to a campsite but we’ll go for wild camping too, in the national parks because I’ve found on their websites that it is allowed to wild camp there.
I also read that wild camping is tolerated and you could ask the landowner for permission if you want to camp on their land. I’m looking for people who’ve done that before: what does that look like? Do you see a nice hill and ring the doorbell of the nearest house? What are your experiences?
