wasp sting rant

I went the first 17 years of my life having never been stung by any insect. then I decided to go toothpaste shopping in the summer. I was just standing there with my dad looking at toothpaste at the back of booys, when suddenly I had the worst pain on the front of my neck. I started crying and my dad looked down to see a f*****g wasp chilling on the ground (he did in fact step on it for recent). the thing just stung me dead in the centre of the throat with zero warning.

Happy Winter everybody!

AKA the season I'm least paradoid about Wasps, but ALWAYS on guard against Queens especially with this warm weather. Oh, and I want to say I'm sorry to the people in the South Hemisphere.

Got stung by a Yellowjacket on the bottom on my foot

This was like 3-4 days ago and my foot was so swollen today that it hurts badly to walk. Is this normal? Fuck a wasp, dude.

Is this the queen

I was battling yellowjackets this fall with a nest in the attic. The exterminator said that they were getting in under the roof shingles. Had it treated 2x. I would see them coming and going by the gutters. I had about 2 dozen incursions into the house. Finally taped the vents shut. After the 2nd treatment I no longer saw any activity and I uncovered the vents. It's been quiet for over a month. Even cleaned the gutters without any problem. It's cold now in ny. Thought it was over and then I saw this in my living room. Is it the queen. It's way bigger than what I was seeing. Is this a good sign or do I still have a problem. About to torch the house. Help!!!!

Are these dangerous? Right outside my patio door. Fort Worth TX

Not sure if this is the correct place to post. But basically I'm asking if I need to get rid of these. But I don't necessarily want to run the risk of getting stung.

Concerning or normal symptoms?

I got stung by a wasp for the first time in my life today, 15 hours ago. The specific sting area on my thumb doesn't hurt unbearably much anymore. But the general pain has spread in the hand, arm, and also on my shoulder/down my back and it's extremely uncomfortable.

No redness, swelling, nothing else. But my entire arm and more hurts from that one sting?? Is this the normal experience of being stung by a wasp? It's 5:30am and I haven't slept, pain is distracting :( It sucks lol

help on repelling wasps

Idk if this is the right subreddit for this question, but I have a porch made of wood and yellow jackets and some other kinds of wasps LOVE to live in/around it. I looked up how to keep them away, and someone here previously talked about using mint to keep them away because they hate the smell. Would artificial mint smell work (like a spray or something) or do I need to buy actual mint? I want to sit on my porch so bad but the wasps are crazy and the last time I got stung I think I had a mild allergic reaction 😬 If anybody else has other ways to keep them away that would be cool too!

How long should I wait to go outside after killing a wasp

So i killed a carpenter wasp that was in my house and I saw another wasp outside my house and remembered reading something about wasps swarming when you kill one of them because of a pheromone they release when killed. So how long should I wait until the swarm is gone

I killed this little bit of shit on the porch with my shoe and then killed another one 10 minutes later.

They were both queens. That's a bee next to it. Couldn't get a photo of the other one.

Long-term control of bald-faced hornets

My daughter lives in rural VA on a 5 acre wooded property with a lot of trees. She had 3 bald-faced hornet nests last year - 1 in the shed, 2 in the woods. One of the nests is right over a berry patch that she wishes to harvest.

It's going to freeze in VA in the next few days. I will be there in Jan. Are there suggests for solving this infestation problem? I plan on taking out the nests which should be filled with dead wasps. I have heard that queens drop to the ground and over-winter there. Can anything be put on the ground around the nest to poison the queens in hibernation?
