Hey all,
Long time since I touched the game but I realised I have minis still yet to be painted. If anyone has any recommendations on colours or videos it would be greatly appreciated! Either the traditional or more of a dark green think like Death World by GW.
I'm close to hoping on board to Warmachine after nearly jumping into W40K - been watching a ton of videos and reading some lore.
One question I have is the functionality of Focus vs Fury. I understand that the Warlocks use Fury instead of Focus, and that it has to be reached from the Warbeasts/Jacks rather than passively gained by the leader. But what are the main pros/cons of Fury? How does it feel to use in comparison with Focus (in regard to balance across the meta and in regard to how it feels in conjunction with its army/theme)
Tia!
Are you assembling, converting, painting, or generally *hobbying* anything this week? Show it off here!
had a fun hour or so after work to paint this awesome sculpt...really enjoyed this one!
Just like the title says can some of you guys give a breakdown of what each faction's playstyle is? Pros, cons, the mistakes each faction wants the opponent to make? In general what their advantages are and what they want to avoid when going up against other factions?
I know Khymaera focuses on speed and melee while Khador has high armor and strong firepower but lacks speed. What about the other factions?
Thanks for any information on this. I have an idea of how they are according to the lore but my question is how they play on the tabletop. Thanks again.

Warmachine Khymaera Shadowflame Shard
u/randalzy linked me to a page that gave a small primer on all of the factions. I'm giving thanks for that not only because I found a decent amount of info on the factions but also because Khymaera is a now a big contender to be my faction. Why? Because I'm an idiot and when I first read about the faction I was like 'melee focused? that's me!'. But then I saw what they looked like and I was like 'FUCK! Why did it have to be snakes?!?!?!'.
I have a fear of snakes. Like a really big fear of them. But then as I was reading the Khymaera page, I found out they're not snakes. They're 'dragonkin' whatever that means (I'm guessing they're like dragons and stuff). Hey, as long as they're not a word that begins with an 's' and ends in 'nakes' I'm good. Don't ask me how one word changed my mind but it did. So yes, I'm retarded but you know what? I can play Khymaera now if I want to. Big thanks to u/randalzy for the link.
Which would be a better Khador unit to purchase more than once: Shock Trooper Pikemen or Shock Trooper Gunners? Pikemen have the Critical Armour-Piercing which is nice but only procs on doubles while the Gunners have Both Barrels which gives a statistically less amount of damage but is consistent. I just don't have any faith that I'll roll doubles that hit more than once per unit. Also, charging six Pikemen would crowd any 'Jack or 'Beast which is why I prefer the shooting.
Assume a 100 point game with any Warcaster.
With the new starter box coming, do you think 30 point games will become more popular? I'm new and want to get into the game with a small army and was wondering what the future would be like.
Preface: I haven't played since early Mk III, and I'm looking to at least try the game again after finishing grad school.
Obviously, they have slightly different rules and the legionnaries have new models. But they kept the names like "storm blade" and "storm lance", so can I pick up the Mk IV casters and jacks and use my old models for storm blades, lances, etc as legionnaries? Are they different enough that I'd have to get all newer stuff? I know I could play a "legacy" army, but I want to eventually move to Prime Cygnar if I can find a play group.
Also, I never followed the lore much but is it possible that Steamforged could eventually release a Mk IV Savio Acosta? I loved him so much.
Ive only been in the 40K hobby for about three years and haven’t really played anything else. Lately I have been trying dip my feet into other war games and skirmish games. I haven’t decided on an army for this yet but I did preorder the starter set as it looks like it’s a good launch point for me (and my daughter). I’ve been looking at the catalogue on steamforge games and am just a tad mixed up: if someone is to start an army in Warmachine should they be looking at the core expansion, the auxiliary expansion (they both say expansion) or the cadre (30 points package) boxes? Again, I haven’t really decided on an army yet. Just wanted to know what I should be looking at when the time comes. Thank you
Have the new Inkarnate models been put into the boxes or are they still the mini ones? I’d like to order the Cadre but don’t want the chibi sized ones if the new appropriately sized ones haven’t come out yet.
Hello, I was wondering if the new khador models in the starter box have helmet options. I like their look and would like all of them to have helmets.
I’m completely new to the game. I downloaded the app to this and just decided to plug in the Cygnar side of the starter set. It does come out to the 30 points like they said but the app wanted me to plug in command cards which would put me over to 35. So instead I picked the five command cards and then dropped Deuce and added two Coursers. Like I said I’m just trying to learn the game and the app. But does that now make sense as a 30 point army? I know I have a ton to learn and I just figured I ask here. Thanks
Are there an alternative to formula p3 eldritch when airbrushing?
So I'm very much in love with WM. Have been for years but I'm just getting back into it after being out for a long time (was driven off by the level of WAAC douchery in my area.)
Now I'm happy to support the game, but the entry cost for getting a 75 points army of Khymaera would be well over 450AUD, on sale, and the models aren't looking to be back in stock for ages.
Now as I'm very lucky if I can get a single game in during a month, this is a bit rich for my blood.
Would anyone mind if I fronted up to a random game with an army of prints that look similar to, but are not, legit models?
For added context, I have attended exactly 1 tournament in the last decade and this was a very friendly event with all mates playing WHFB. I don't play for sheep stations and can't see myself playing competitively ever.
I used to play quite a bit of Warmachine back during MKII and some during the MKIII eras, and looking at the new factions, I really like the look of House Kallyss. However, when I look up their battlegroup box, I get two different boxes. One features Hellyth, and the other shows Hazaroth. Is there a reason that I see two different results? Was the one featuring Hazaroth an earlier version, or was it copied over when it was planned to Hazaroth as the Warcaster leading the battlegroup?
Reading the rules on the app is a pain in the ass. Is there a PDF or better yet an actual physical book like the good old days?
I understand that hordes and warmachine merged together at some point but then privateer press sold it to steam forged games and I can’t tell if they have discontinued horses or not? I used to play legion of everblight and would like to get back into the game but don’t want to purchase second hand models if hordes has been discontinued.
Is there one now or is there one coming?
Is there a list of the order in which the stories in the app should be read?
