Wargame Red Dragon Map Questions

Turns out I can actually run RD on the PC I've got at hand right now so I jumped over from EE!

Just beat the first Korean campaign, which was frustrating as all get out, and doesn't bode well for the remaining ones!

Two questions though:

  1. What exactly determines what positions you do and don't start with in the actual battle? Sometimes it seems to be ones that I had captured from an earlier phase, sometimes it's mostly a free-for-all with nobody starting with much, and sometimes I randomly lose territory I ended the match with previously.

Biggest impact this had was on Busan - I spent most of my battles owning the "Alpha" deployment zone, which is great for defense. However, I randomly lost it to the AI, forcing me up into Echo (indefensible), Charlie (no routes to bring stuff in) or the one on the top center of the map (routes but worth nothing). Generally if you capture a zone between rounds of battle you keep it so I couldn't figure out what happened.

  1. When you move tokens on the strategic map, does it take multiple turns for all the forces in that stack to arrive? When playing Cheorwon, it took me a few rounds to beat the AI but on round two or three I suddenly got extra units that I didn't have in previous phases but definitely didn't seem to move in to the zone separately - for example extra M60s, a few command vehicles, stuff like that.

What's the login on account creation?

Just got WG:RD on steam(vibes with me a lot more than WARNO) and apparently it asks for a "login" when I create an account along with the other info. I have the activation code and everything else but nothing I put in there seems to work. Any advice?

Intensely frustrating

I'm new to wargame, not nearly good enough for multiplayer, so I'm making my way through the campaign against medium AI for now. Thrashed this AI with combined arms, planning and good recon, just didn't check the mission timer ;( Am almost pyrrhic victory turned draw

Playing against moto in its current state is so fucking frustrating, how do you people deal with it?

I really want to enjoy this game man but every single ranked game i've played today was against moto decks and they just make me want to uninstall

Even on non moto maps they feel so overwhelming, oppressive and frustrating to play against. They can control the entire map from the get go, they start ticking super early while you have to build up a combined force to try and push them out of territory that's supposed to be yours. If they lose an special forces squad it's whatever because they have like another 20 more for 50 points or so, but if I lose a tank, it sets me back 10 minutes.

Even if i do manage to get rid of their overpowered infantry and finally capture my zones, it takes me like 20 minutes and then I still need another half an hour to push them out of THEIR zones and start out ticking them. the few times I've won against moto were really close games or draws.

honestly im starting to understand why half of the bootcamp discord has stopped playing, and i'm really disappointed that moto was left untouched in the italy patch notes. It was already the strongest type of deck by far and not only they didn't nerf it, they also added a whole bunch of new OP units that made blue moto even stronger

Moderna vs twardy may be a discussion. So is a 5th plane spot- sead probably or another bomber. RM 100 vs tube arty?

Leveling the playing field in single player campaigns

So I keep trying my hand at this game and end up in this off and on cycle. I hop on, try the Busan pocket campaign, enter the first fight in the middle territory, deploy my 500 points of units, then proceed to get steam rolled by and ungodly number of enemy infantry that know exactly where all of my units are before even their scouts can move within range to detect my units. I have a pair of flame M113s hiding in the trees to roast infantry trying to cross the bridge, their APCs shred them before getting a shot off since concealment is more of a suggestion. I loose a command unit because the K1s I called in took their sweet time getting to the AO to cover the unit. I fire a half salvo of rocket artillery at one position, then wait for ever for the unit to fire on another position. I call in air support to target their artillery, only to find out they pulled six shilkas out of no where and I loose the unit. I just can't seem to get the hang of having to micromanage all my units, call in reinforcements, and contend with the enemy AI starting with what seems like triple the deployment points all at once. At this point I am open to simply cheating. There any mods or dev/command console that either lower the enemy AIs maximum number of deployed units at mission start, or raise the maximum number of deployment points I start with so I can start with the majority of my forces on the field? Also what are good ways to force the enemy AI to dismount infantry so I can utilize incendiary weapons against them?

EE: Using infantry on attack

I dusted this off recently as it definitely runs on the laptop I currently have access to. Not super experienced but I'm committed to playing through the campaign right now.

Mechanics are mostly intuitive, at least good enough for me to get through a few missions. Ran into an issue with infantry, though.

I know these are best used in the woods or in urban areas, and in fact the game even tells you in the airfield mission before Peace Talks to use infantry to clear out towns. However, when attacking with infantry - even 3:1 or 4:1 in my favor, my squads are often wiped out.

I've noticed that the enemy units can shoot me when I can't see them, giving me terrible casualties before I'm close enough to do anything about it. I'm assuming I need to bring a Recon unit close to the town before an assault?

Similarly, when they are revealed they appear to be way more resistant to the fire my tanks and stuff put on them than my own infantry are to enemy tanks - I have found I can't really defend towns with them at all (though woods seem to do better).

By and large I've gotten by with sniping enemy HQ vehicles and planting my own on the edge as the AI does very little about this in most instances, but how am I supposed to use infantry offensively to clear areas "properly"? Looking around online there's references to "cheap infantry" to be used as cannon fodder (this does nothing except waste points) and "expensive infantry" for CQC, but it's not clear to me where that clicks over from expendable chaff to viable assault troops. Units like Paratroopers are expensive, but die just as fast.

What's the trick to it?

Italy DLC Quality

I was thinking of taking advantage of the Steam offer, but when I went to the armory the models seemed to be of very low quality. I don't know if it's because I haven't bought it, because of the dirty and worn effect they've put on everything or because they're just of low quality. I've even seen some graphical glitches. Images below to compare the Italian vehicles as I see them and the rest of the countries. Does anyone have an answer? Because I'm losing all desire to buy it with these models.

Help to improve mechanized East Germany deck

Hi all!

Had an East Germany specialized moto deck for maps with large share of buildings and forests.
I read the guide to the deckbuilding, made some changes.

May you help me how to improve this one?

Underrated planes

Most beginners and perhaps mediocre players take the most flashy, expensive planes. These are effective, but price wise, they may be a larger risk and harder to deploy. What are some planes that you find that perform really well for their price? A good example would be the Finnish hawk 51- fast, affordable and 4 per card.

For me, at the moment it is the SU-25K (this one is 130pts, so not really cheap). Really nice plane which also in my opinion punches above its weight.

So does the Mig-21Bis- 90 pts for 30 ECM and good helo killing power. It can also engage non ASF planes and keep the skies clear.

The JH-7 at 120 pts is also a favorite of mine. 40% ECM on a tank killing plane is decent.

What units would yall like to see added to the pre-exsisting nations in the game

assuming the use of pre-exsisting assets or simple asset mashes (like adding the desert warrior with the Lav-25 Tow turret on a warrior hull)

New to this game, made a deck

Got this game and the other 2 plus dlc for a decent price off a steam sale, first thing I did was watch some tutorials on how the game works then made a deck after looking at a bunch of units. I am still getting smashed by ai and I’m not sure if it’s my deck or just me. Any criticism is appreciated, thanks.

Worth trying in 2025?

Title. How would a new player experience be like rn? My main concerns are probably if multiplayer is going to stomp me without a decent time investment, if there's any updates beyond bugfixes and if the community is active. Oh and should I pay attention to any DLCs or does it not matter much.
