Hey guys,
Going to volunteer at the city food bank in Fort Worth tomorrow. I've volunteered at other places around DFW, but for some reason im kinda anxious/nervous about going to this bigger establishment. Maybe because I expect there to be big groups and im afraid to be the loner all awkward?
Anyway, any tips to get over this feeling? Love helping others and also open to meeting people/making connections. Anyone else experience anxiety/nervousness when helping out at new places?
If you have an RV and want to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, you can make Habitat a part of your journey, or even your destination.
RV Care-A-Vanner building projects are done in partnership with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates across North America. These local Habitats benefit from the significant skills, energy and enthusiasm of the RV Care-A-Vanner volunteers, who in just two weeks can substantially accelerate their building program and raise the community’s awareness of Habitat’s work.
With the RV Care-A-Vanners, you can meet and work with families as they create a place they can call home. You’ll have the chance to meet wonderful volunteers who share the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Every RV-er is welcome; no experience needed. Check out Habitat's volunteer code of conduct (PDF) to see volunteer expectations.
Some RV Care-A-Vanners train to become a part of Habitat's Disaster Rebuild Team to help communities rebuild after a disaster. You can also participate in the Collegiate Challenge program where volunteers mentor college students during their alternative school breaks. Other skilled volunteer opportunities are available as well, including serving on the RV Care-A-Vanner desk staff to help manage the program.
Besides hands-on volunteering, the RV Care-A-Vanners have become Habitat advocates. Many volunteers speak to churches, civic groups and the media about the importance of safe, affordable housing and the results of poor living conditions.

Hi all, I'm a first year pre-nursing student and I want to volunteer. I applied to Jim Pattison and the Food Bank, but so far no reply. I'll take anything, but it'd be helpful if the volunteering is something I can use to connect to Nursing, because it's needed in my mandatory questionnaire. Thanks
The Dig It! project is coordinated by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and primarily funded by Historic Environment Scotland. Dig It! is a hub for Scottish archaeology coordinated by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
Since 2021, Dig It! has supported the Make Your Mark initiative which aims to increase the number and diversity of heritage volunteers
Each year, Dig It! has events, including digs, that involve volunteers. They are finishing up the 2024 events, but it's a good time to sign up for notifications so you know what's happening in 2025.
Volunteering has big benefits for the elderly.
But those Britons who would most benefit are least likely to do it.
Studies back up the idea that volunteering has big benefits for well-being (so long as people are not bored). Younger do-gooders can find it easier to move into work. But the biggest gains are found among the elderly. Those volunteers in the “advanced stages of life” exhibit “better working memory and verbal fluency”, according to one meta-analysis. Experts think the social interactions it entails can help stave off dementia. But those who would benefit most from volunteering—because, say, they are lonely, isolated or unhappy—are least likely to do it.

When kids are taken from their parents by the state, they enter the complicated labyrinth of the family court system. Suddenly, a lot of adults are part of their lives, including social workers, lawyers and judges.
Most of these adults are professionals juggling large caseloads. But there are also Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASAs. These are trained volunteers who get to know the children and provide reports and testimony to the judge in their case.
For the latest episode of “At Work With,” OPB in Oregon presented what it’s like to do that work from CASA for Children volunteer Dave Anderson.

There are a number of ways you can volunteer in activities leading up to the November elections.
For non-partisan volunteering: contact your nearest chapter of the League of Women Voters. They may have opportunities regarding registering voters at public events, helping at forums for candidates running for office and distributing voter guides.
For partisan volunteering: contact the nearest office of the political party you support. The web site may have all the info you need. They will have a range of volunteering opportunities: registering voters, sending postcards to voters in swing states, calling voters who are registered in that party locally and voted in the last four years (to ask them to vote in these elections), driving voters to polling places, and more.
You can also go to Google and type in the name of your city and the phrase volunteer help elections November 2024 to get more ideas.
The people that work on election day or in the days before or after are paid, not volunteers. This includes election day-only workers. The web site for your nearest election office will have info on how you can apply to work the elections. You may open voting envelopes, you may check in people at polling places, you may check ballots before they go into a voting machine and more.

Hi, Do you know of any open-source projects, volunteer nonprofits, or other initiatives that could use some extra help.
i want to volunteer mostly for la trobes aspire program for dent science, but also the experience would generally help. Theres so many forms online and links so how do i volunteer as a year 10???? Also other questions:
I volunteer with my local Girl Scout council on a team that is responsible for helping with upkeep at our local camp. We have a lot (like 50+) small carpentry projects to address. We have money to buy wood, but are having a really tough time finding volunteers with carpentry skills.
I contacted the chair of the carpentry department at my area's technical college and that seemed promising because he had two people in his carpentry guild whose now-grown kids had been in GS. They wanted to see the camp before committing, which I agreed to. Then he stopped responding after I sent him possible dates. The school year ended, so I wait for fall semester to begin and pinged him. Nothing.
I made a "Friends of (camp name)" group on Facebook that I use to promote camp workdays. I get lots of congrats on what work I do at the camp, but have not gotten any new volunteers.
I have posted about the need on my own Facebook page.
My local Chamber of Commerce made a Facebook group in 2020 to keep businesses and people connected, and that group continues to be a great way to connect our community. I posted on there about needing carpentry volunteers. I made my own post and reply to every post where someone says "Where are good places to volunteer locally?" Crickets.
I have the email addresses for the parents with girls in GS in my area, so I have emailed the parents. No responses.
My committee started working on creating an event where we would invite local businesses and community service oriented organizations to come see camp and let us pitch the idea of partnering with them to fix things at camp. Our community engagement manager from the council was initially on board but eventually told us not to have the event and to instead take a more personal approach by contacting businesses directly where we on the committee have connections. The problem is we have no connections like this! The whole point of that event was to try to start building community relationships that we don't currently have.
I would appreciate some ideas about how to find carpentry volunteers because I am struggling.

While made up of volunteers, the Fish and Wildlife Commission has far-reaching responsibilities. It oversees the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife budget, made up of tens of millions of dollars in hunting and fishing license fees, boat registration fees, and federal grants. The Commission issues wildlife management regulations and hires (or fires) the department’s chief executive. State law directs the commission to keep a “watchful eye” over the department.
Senate inaction has resulted in three of the nine seats now being empty.
Do you have any experience of being a volunteer with childline.. good or bad? Am very empathetic so am slightly worried about carrying problems home with me x
Hello, I am not working at the moment and am looking to gain new skills (in anything, I want to make myself more useful). I placed in the top 3% of students at my university. I am based in Australia but willing to volunteer for an overseas charity.
I'm having a hard time remembering the name of a website that posted multiple volunteer opportunities and you were able to apply for them.
You could apply to be a board member for one organization and then apply to help build a website for another.
If anyone knows what I am talking about, it would be greatly appreciated
Volunteer here. (sorry for the wrong flair)
I've recently turned to 7 cups as an alternative to in-person volunteering (several reason) and I already feel discouraged: we get no professional training, just this 'kindergarten-y', 'recognized by who?' badges for talking to people that use the platform as a substitute for Omegle 9/10 times.
At this point I wonder if counselling is really for me, or if I'm kinda wasting time.
If someone has any experience or wants to look it up to see it themselves and then discuss it I'd feel glad and relieved of my doubts. thanks for the attention.
Wow. The volunteer subreddit has 17,000 members as of a few minutes ago today.
It is in the top 5% of subreddits, ranked by size. Thank you to all who have joined, who have posted, and who have commented.
My generation was taught to change the system. That lesson came at a cost.

Just a few things I disagree with. Like when says "It’d be unusual to hear volunteers say they’re going to a soup kitchen to improve their self-esteem." This author has obviously never read some of the posts on this subreddit. Also, there's much more meaningful volunteering to help the homeless than handing out socks.
I’m 16. I am in desperate need of 10 more hours before next week friday. I go to school full time, but after that I can volunteer. Is there any online program where I can quickly get 10 hours? Thank you so much in advance!
I'm curious to know what's the best experience you've had volunteering? Where was it and did you use an App or volunteer software to apply? What was it?
From the Facebook page of Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky:
Want the VIP treatment? Register as a Volunteer-in-Park (VIP) and join Mammoth Cave National Park on Saturday, September 14 for a volunteer river cleanup event in honor of the 9/11 National Day of Service.
Participants will collect and remove litter along a section of the Green and Nolin Rivers National Water Trail to improve water quality, restore natural beauty, and reduce potential threats to human health and wildlife along the river. The cleanup event will offer two separate trips for volunteers.
There will be an option of cleaning the Dennison Ferry to the Green River Ferry section, an 8 mile stretch of river that will take approximately 4-5 hours to complete.
A second option involves cleaning the Green River Ferry to Houchin Ferry segment that runs for 12 miles and is expected to take approximately 7-8 hours to complete.
Prior experience with canoeing and/or kayaking is required to participate in this event. Participants must register in advance. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.
