Here’s a revised version of your post for better clarity and impact:
I signed up for a trial on Vimeo, but canceling it turned into a nightmare. Their website made it impossible to end the trial. The "Cancel Trial" button consistently gave me errors, no matter how many devices I tried or how many days I spent attempting to fix it. Out of frustration, I decided to close my account, assuming that would prevent any charges once the trial period ended.
To be safe, I emailed their support team and was shocked to learn that closing my account does not stop the subscription or prevent charges. They told me I could still be charged the full $500 for an annual subscription—despite having no active account. What would I even be paying for without access to the account?
After I pressed for clarification, I received this response from their support team:
"Hi,
Thank you for following up. I have investigated and found that you have already canceled your trial membership and opted out of auto-renewal successfully. Rest assured you won’t be charged for the membership. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any further questions or concerns. We will be happy to help. Warm regards, Abhishek"
Thinking the issue was resolved, I let it go. But just one hour later, I was charged $500 CAD.
This isn't the first time I’ve heard of Vimeo engaging in shady practices. There are reports of them promising refunds but never actually issuing them.
Do not do business with this company. They cannot be trusted.
So basically, i have a business plan, for roughly $500 a year. I am a teacher, and i have 1000+ videos on vimeo, great service. But it won't renew the payment. I contacted vimeo support a week ago, but they haven't sorted it. I keep getting emails that i need to renew, and i am worried that my videos will get deleted, as i am over the threshold. If i lose my videos, i literally lose my online school business.
As title says.
A video I created with many memories from a class ski-trip to Austria has just vanished. I can't even find it on google anymore.
What the hell happend to this site. Are any admins able to help me restore it?
I don't have the e-mail associated to that account anymore.
When I click ‘create single film or video’ the ‘get started’ button is greyed out and won’t allow me to go further. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?
I often download Instagram reels to post on YouTube, but since others might do the same, there’s a chance the video has already been uploaded. Is there a way to check if the video already exists on ?
Spent 10 minutes clicking around and googling to try and find a solution, and couldn't. Vimeo AI wasn't helpful either.
I have two of my own films as Vimeo On Demand, and can go to the settings pages, but can find no way to actually just watch them for myself without buying them,
Vimeo always treated mobile functionality as an afterthought. But, I tolerated it because their desktop product was wonderful. Now, as we all know Vimeo is no longer what it was, has abandoned the artists and filmmakers that built it up for their new corporate clients an models.
Seems their recent decline in quality has hit their already crappy mobile app. Logged on today and there were more changes for the worse. Tried and failed to navigate it. My profile page was completely changed. It sucked. Absolute shit. Uninstalled and deleted it. Terrible.
How can a media company not cater to mobile functionality in today's day and age? Mind blowing.
I've uploaded a video and it's playing fine however there is this weird "off the air" placeholder - like an old TV station test pattern. What's going on? Any way to add a thumbnail or make it autogenerate one?
Hi! I have a client that posts each week with a Vimeo video embedded at the end of his article. Today, I uploaded the video, as I do each week, and when I go to copy it over, instead of the video it pulls a grey box that says "Verify to continue"
and underneath says "Join the web's most supportive community of creators and get high-quality tools for hosting, sharing, and streaming..."
"vimeo.com"
Both accounts have the highest verification security settings established, so it can't be that. I tried to add an old video, and that worked, but no new ones will let me embed them. Can someone help?? Thanks!
I suggest avoiding Vimeo for now since they have something broken which they are not able to figure out.
It's been 15 days since i am facing an issue with renewal of my Vimeo Plan.
The monthly plan has been discontinued without prior notice. So all legacy Vimeo users who have been paying over years now are forced to go for an annual plan without any prior information!

Whoops! We are having some technical difficulties, please try again in a minute.
Do you really expect your customers to run with broken apps while you figure out why your payment options are not working? 15 days and my customers are not seeing my videos in the app (this is API based third party player integration that stopped working since your automated systems downgraded my plan! And this is while the support/ billing team acknowledged the issue and are looking into it - for 15+ days).
Don't you think you need to activate the plan for clients who are waiting while your tech. team solved the issue/ bug?
This has been the worst experience so far with any service provider I have subscribed to. Simply leaving customers waiting for 2+ weeks is simply not acceptable!
Thousands of videos to move from Vimeo and don’t want to do it manually.
Are there any tools or services that will do it?

There is a old DJ or producer on here that i used to listen too. Now when I was younger i was watching it because of all of the hot girls in the music video. the only thing i remember that stands out to me is that he is recording from his POV and on his forearm he has a tattoo of lips. I know this is a long shot but does anyone remember this guys name or the music he produces? It has to be 5+ years old. I dont remember there being much singing i think this is when house or instrumental was coming out. he always changed the video based on the beats to different girls dancing.
EU-based freelancer here. Seriously angry about the severely reduced service (explore feature) combined with the significant price increase / storage limit. Looking to move to a new platform that hosts videos with the following features:

Vimeo Downgraded My Subscription Without Warning – Anyone Else Experienced This?
I’m beyond frustrated with Vimeo right now. Last month, I started receiving constant emails about my subscription being downgraded, even though I have an active subscription through Apple Pay. At first, I thought it was some kind of glitch because I’ve been paying for the Plus plan, and everything seemed fine.
But then things got worse. Despite my payment on 12-02 for the Plus plan, the emails about downgrading kept coming. And now, my account is actually downgraded! My subscription is fully paid, and Apple Pay shows it's still active, so how on earth did this happen?
What’s even more infuriating is that there was no warning or explanation from Vimeo—just random emails and now this mess. Has anyone else faced something like this? How did you get it resolved?
I’ve already reached out to their support, but this is a terrible experience for a paid service. Hoping to hear some advice or similar stories.
This is an absolute long shot, but I've just remembered a video which exists of myself and a friend in a school play from 2017. It's been archived seemingly, rather than deleted, as the wayback machine has said it "doesn't have permission" to view it, but I was wondering if there was any way people know of being able to access it otherwise. It's a really sentimental video for a few reasons, and the school has changed management recently, so I'm not sure if the new head of the school will have access to the same account for it. I was just wondering if there was any way at all of locating it, or if there's any way of finding the URL of it even, to get further into finding it.
I am aware this is very unlikely to be possible, but I'm just holding out hope as I know some people can work miracles with this sort of thing. Thank you!
I made the error to trim my video in vimeo editor while ago, but i encountered a turnaround for the issue, that is to replace my video in vimeo editor, or simply delete it from the timeline and add a new version uploaded from my vimeo library.
it has been days since i cannot do that again. if i go to my timeline in editor and delete my video, when i'm adding another the message "Upload Failed. The file has failed to upload." just pop.
someone else is dealing with this issue? is there any other way to solve this? or i have to upload a new version of my feature film that i've already send a url to some festivals.
please help
In anticipation the receiving my email from Vimeo, I am looking for alternative CDNs. We currently have 400+ videos on Vimeo taking up about 4-5TB. We have had our PRO account for about four years.
I use Vimeo so that I can get an HLS feed for each video to feed our Roku and other OTT apps. What are my CDN alternatives that will be similar in price and will provide HLS feeds? Automatic closed captioning would be a plus.
Vimeo has degraded so much in the past few years, and it's incredibly sad. Gone are the days where Vimeo was a place to build a community. I've been a user since Vimeo was brand new, circa 2005. Back then, Vimeo felt like a community with a unique personality. A place to share videos and films that were a notch above what you would typically see on YouTube. You would connect with people and comment on each others videos. Sure, you can do that now, but it's just... different. There is no love in it. The UI is in desperate need of a facelift. The home page should be your feed, not your dashboard. Vimeo needs to take a hint from TikTok on how a successful For You (feed) page is designed. Create more of a focus around comments/discussion. Maybe make the thumbnails preview as gifs so its a more enjoyable scrolling experience. I'm not exactly sure all of the fixes, but the current state makes me want to leave after being a member for nearly 20 years. Is it just me, or Is it fine as-is? Should we demand more? What do you think?
Vimeo is force migrating my account and removing features I used to have paid for. The storage change is just the tip of the iceberg.
Well. maybe I should've seen the writing on the wall as they've already done this multiple times on different aspects of account features.
I've had an active Pro/Plus account for a decade.
Today I login to try fix why my custom player embeds (in over a 1000 locations) are no longer working, and they are telling me, that the feature is now only included at a subscription price 3 times what I am already paying.
They are now capping my total storage to only 1tb!!! So I literally can't upload anything unless I upgrade.
A decade of 20gb a week (which was already a disappointingly low number in todays world) and now they are holding my account hostage unless I pay substantially more to fix the issues.
Why do this insist on alienating every single legacy customer they have?
About a month ago I got an email with the news that the subscription price will be going up, and along with that my storage will change from being a 5GB weekly allowance to a full 250GB. The extra $2 a month and the 10GB reduction (250 vs 260 of 52 weeks times 5GB) don't really bother me, I'm cool with the extra cost is miniscule and the rounding to 250GB.
What has me confused is that for a couple of weeks my weekly allowance was of 250GB (clearly a mistake, since it kept resetting every week, and I know this should be for the whole year), and now I'm back at 5GB a week while still paying extra. Like I said, I don't care for the couple of bucks, I'll happily pay that, but I'm confused as to where the new system is?
I'd rather have the full 250GB available, although I have questions.
I'd love to get some answers if anybody knows, thank you all!
I would love any thoughts or advice! I poured my heart and soul into a website and launched it around May 2024. I video chatted with Vimeo previous to launch and chose the 500 video/yr plan. My website consists nearly 100% of videos. I had a fan base around 5000 on YouTube and wanted to start my own gig to talk more freely without censorship. The launch went well but the growth wasn't there. I spent months working on all aspects of the website/SEO analytics/Advertising. Nothing worked. A lot of money spent to create something that wasn't growing. So last Saturday I asked some followers to get on the website and watch videos for 30 minutes. As per the last six months, google analytics showed the average time on my website was one minute and 10 seconds. So my videos are hosted on Vimeo, yet they have my website's URL, and Vimeo told me that while people are watching my videos the minutes count towards my website… Not true! 1 min average per viewer is what Google thinks...so it appears ppl Do NOT Like To Stay on my website--yikes!! What do I do now?
Am I the only one feeling like an idiot here? All the buttons that used to let me navigate from a video to the showcases it's added to have disappeared.
Weirdly enough, if I open older links to showcases, everything still works as expected. Is this a bug, a "feature," or am I missing something? How do I fix this?
I have tried 4 different browsers and I cannot log into Vimeo. When I click the button literally nothing at all happens. I am the only one?
Vimeo doesn't show anything on the movie's landing page and doesn't offer much in the way of contacting the uploader on-platform (there's their FB page but it's down). Don't feel like blowing money on something I neither received nor was promised.
Trying to upload and then share a vid w/password, I keep getting this error.
"Unhandled video privacy" What does it mean?
"Vimeo AI" offers to help, but they want me to pay (Lol, NO). Their support seems useless now.
I checked Settings > Privacy and enabled the "retroactive security update". Checked "unlisted" videos as they suggested, but I have none. Tried uploading again, but no joy.
During the upload, the familiar vimeo color bars have been replaced with a distorted camera icon inside an oval, against a black background.
Judging from other comments looks like it may be time to move on from vimeo. Alternatives?
I'm beyond frustrated with Vimeo right now. I accidentally upgraded to their Business plan under the false pretense that I had to upgrade for features i didn't need. on November 10, 2024, immediately realized my mistake, and requested a refund. They initially offered to process the refund, but then completely ghosted me. Now, weeks later, I'm out $476.04 and they're ignoring all my attempts to contact them.
Here's the breakdown:
This feels incredibly shady. It's like they're hoping I'll just give up and go away. Has anyone else experienced this with Vimeo? Is this their standard practice for handling refunds?
This experience has soured me on Vimeo completely. My membership is up for renewal later this year, and you can bet I'll be taking my business elsewhere. There are plenty of other video hosting platforms that actually value their customers.
I'm at a loss for what to do next to get my refund. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
i've been having a terrible time getting Vimeo to answer a simple question about downgrading my membership. It seems that all questions are answered by bots that just say the same things always returning me back to the inadequate instructions on their website. Their support is terrible. Maybe you guys know more.
I have 47Gig of video on my site most of which I need to keep up there because they are the source of all the videos on my website . But I noticed that I've been paying $300/year for 1T storage that I don't need and would prefer a lower grade membership that is much cheaper. I don't need any of their fancy services- just need to store videos . However to lower my membership I have to cancel auto renew, wait till my membership lapses to a basic plan that only stores 10Gs of video before I can then re enter a new subscription at my preferred level. That's nuts already, but -
What's not clear to me is whether when I re-up my membership what happens to the 37 G that were dropped? Will the the full 47 Gs be restored or are they lost forever. Moreover if they are restored will the links to them still work with my website as before?
in addition I can't tell what my options will be when I re-up . Currently I see a Plus membership with 250Gs and my Pro membership with 1T . But are those outdated "Legacy" plans ? Will the Plus (ideal for me) be available to me or do i need to choose instead between a "Starter" and a " Standard " plan which seem to be described perhaps as "cloud" plans.
Any help will be appreciated because it sure ain't coming from Vimeo!
Lenny
Vimeo was such a source of inspiration over the years, I think i started using it around 2006? I haven't been on it in a while but I was so sad to see that it's completely departed from the days of creativity and viewing content. I understand a company has to make money but this is really sad.
Now my semi-rant is over, is there anywhere else to go to have this sort of experience. Currently using Behance but wondered if there was any others?
Hello,
I've received some private VIMEO video links and some separate subtitle files. I can't download the videos to use the subtitles, but I'm not sure how to use the .srt files on Vimeo. Any suggestions how to use the subtitles? The CC link on the video only offers auto-generated captions, with no options to upload the file.
Thank you
