PTPA: 🌟 Exciting news! I just tried VEEG, a new superfood, and I'm loving how it enhances my meals! Have any of you experimented with it yet? I’m curious to hear how you’re using it in your recipes. Let’s swap tips!
Hello!
My name is Kristi Nielson and I'm a mental health research student at Lancaster University. I'm posting here to ask the community moderators if I could share information about a study I'm conducting on men's experiences of orthorexia? I had messaged the mods but am not sure it was seen. Please feel free to DM me with any questions or comments!
As a clarification, it is not believed that anyone who follows a particular diet or fitness plan is orthorexic, but that perhaps individuals who do identify with orthorexia could frequent this forum since it’s related to health.
Thanks,
Kristi
I'm going keto for a month(1395 calories a day, 75g fat, 130g protein, 50g carbs) but I am worried as I tried going low carb before and really struggled! If anyone has any places where they've found meal plans before I'd really appreciate it- I've tried using ChatGPT and it's okay but it often gets the calculations wrong. Thank you!
I plan to start the vegan Keto diet this coming Tuesday, when I next do my food shop. If anyone has any useful hints or tips to share, please do!
I also have to follow a low fructan and GOS diet, due to those triggering my IBS.
Because of this, I am limited to what vegan milks I can consume, and some of the vegan milks I can have, also contain rice in the ingredient list - would this be conserved not Keto friendly, even if it is a relatively small amount of rice? I have added a screenshot of the ingredient list to an almond milk as an example.
Hi everyone! I’ve been vegetarian for over a decade and had previously been vegan for a few years before that. Recently my doctor told me I needed to go low carb and low sugar (he specifically recommended keto for this), but I’ve also been wanting to return to vegan/plant based. My partner is also vegetarian so they are pretty much down for whatever I make, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. Any advice or recommendations? Quick dinner recipes/meal prep ideas would be amazing as well lol.
If so how much ? And what’s your other meals like? I rarely eat any carb but veggie or berries. It’s been hard to get enough calorie and i had thought adding quinoa or lentil
Raw vegan community isn’t for me, they won’t understand I need to be low carb and they keep push me eating lots of fruit.( I have done that few years ago and hate it, made my blood sugar spike every second). But I wanna try raw as much as possible. Just one thing idk if protein. Raw vegan emphasize on getting more carbs and less fat and protein, but since im doing lowcarb-keto, im not sure who’s much protein I should take. I’m currently bedridden most of time and ill ,5”2 115-120lb. My tdee was around 1300-1400. I was trying to get 80g protein before transition to raw. I wonder if I need same amount of protein?
If I may pry.
Why do you choose not to eat carbs? After all this can be a pretty restrictive diet, both vegan and keto.
Personally, I find that if I eat high carb foods, I end up hungrier than before, and have to eat something else. Usually something higher in fat or even protien. Some nuts for example. Don't know why, individual metabolism I guess.
I imagine a low carb/keto vegan diet is going to be high in them. I know they are regarded heart healthy, but is that true in high amounts (however you define high)?
Thanks
I started to be vegetarian on may maybe and now I want to be committed to vegan keto. In my main language there isn’t much of contents about vegan and 0 about vegan keto 😅
I just wanna ask you beautiful healthy people if you know any accounts I can follow to to learn more etc 🙈
I hope you got what I mean 🤍
Thank you for reading.
I’m trying
Well my 3-4 weeks this time on vegan keto came to and end and I am back on whole food plant based.
I find it is very very hard on a vegan diet to get into those keto ranges that are the most beneficial so I will preface this to say maybe I didnt do it right ! The keto flu was a bitch but got past that stage. I like the less hungry feeling and I liked the food .
But overall I started age terribly. My face looked awful and I found myself not exercising very hard or sleeping that great.
I felt better and normal as soon as I had a grain meal although the first day felt really odd.
Hear me out (this might be one of the weirder “recipes” aka desperate delusional imitations I’ve come up with over the years of eating while restricting entire food groups and organism kingdoms)
But I’ve been putting the “eat your mouth off” chocolate and fruity cereals (which no one in their right mind would eat if not eating vegan keto, it’s just not very good by normal food standards but I appreciate it for what it is which is something pretty close in texture and taste to real cereal) in the air fryer and salting them…the fruity especially tastes like kettle corn!
It’s highly processed but high in protein and scratches my snack itch.
Curious how the Catalina crunch would taste bc that’s way better than this
Enjoy!
So I got a keto mojo and it was very helpful to see the blood levels.
After 10 days of trying this not really in ketosis except mildly I got to a 1.4 and same day had a very bad keto flu that lasted 2 days. Amazingly I got some electrolytes and was healed in like an hour! Maybe the flu was on its way out. I love these powders no sugar and have trace minerals will post a photo.
Then same day yesterday I ended up at dinner with some sweet friends and they made such a nice meal with Quinoa and beans plus some cashew cheese sauce and veggies. I had a small portion but I figure it was around 70 grams total carbs?
I ended up sleeping all through the night without getting up to pee and my whoop showed very high deep and rem sleep. (been having horrible sleep peeing 5-6 times trying keto)
This morning I feel calm and clear.
Curious now of if I am out of ketosis or how long it will take to get back.
7 am and not hungry at all so may fast half the day.
So was the great night of sleep I had a result of finally getting Ketones up for days and passing the flu stage or was it the small amount of carbs?
Benefits and notes
Below is a recipe that I hope will be helpful.
Fermentation helps to reduce the carbohydrates in nuts and seeds.
Blending and fermenting also reduces anti-nutrients so you can absorb nutrients better and makes everything easier to digest.
Provides good probiotics and fiber to the intestines.
I started off eating regular seeds and nuts. After developing this and also eating psyllium husk, the bathroom situation has improved 400%.
Make any modifications you want, but make sure you are familiar enough with fermentation safety to do so safely.
Ingredients and materials
Blender
1-gallon jug (ideally 2 jugs, 1 for the sauce and 1 to keep water in for easy access)
Water
Vitamin C tablets for dechlorination, to allow fermentation (not as important if using peppers with vitamin C)
6 Jalapenos or 9 serranos (optional)
Pumpkin seeds-2 cups
Sunflower seeds- 2 cups
Peanuts- 2 cups
Kombucha- 1 cup (I make my own, using 12.5g sugar per cup which goes down as it ferments. If you are trying to limit carbs extremely, you may want to use older kombucha or wait 2 days before eating this sauce).
Procedure
Measure 2 cups each of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and peanuts into a bowl (or you can measure directly into blender 2 cups per batch).
Blend in 3 batches, each with 2 jalapenos, 2 cups seeds, 1/3 cup inoculant, ¼ vitamin C tablet, and enough water to make 4 cups total.
This makes about 16 servings of 12.5g protein (6 fluid oz each).
Pour each batch into a 1-gallon jug. Shake well. Leave the lid loose and keep at room temperature for at least 24 hours. I have kept it at room temp for up to 4 days and it’s fine. Probably would be good for much longer. You can refrigerate after fermentation to thicken if desired.
Shake before each use. I like to mix about 2oz in with food and pour about 4oz on top.
After 10 days more or less I finally got into actual ketosis I think. Blood tests says 1.4 at 3 pm.
Feel sick too like flu symptoms.
How long might this last and anything I can do besides water and electrolytes ?
it seems it has nice ratio of protein to carbs, almost 3:1 in favour of proteins.
but still it can be risky if not measured with other carbs?
It is amazing how few YouTube videos there are on Vegan Keto...I found heavenly fan and some others.
Many are vegetarian plus vegan which is not really close or helpful.
What are your favorites?
What if I just ate peanut butter and used supplements for the nutrients I’m not getting? 😅
tofu chorizo w/ bell pepper, homemade guac, dark chocolate, almonds
Anyone have any recommendations for vegan keto ice cream? I’m trying not to have erythritol too, which probably makes it impossible but I thought I’d see.
Curious if anyone cycles between a high carb very low fat wfpb diet to vegan keto and how that works and what does it loo like?
For me I am decades wfpb and do better on it with no nuts seeds or avocado or a tiny amount and of course no oil.
but sometimes when I travel I find myself doing vegan keto because it's less meal prep and much easier to eat out with you can have salads and oil with nuts seeds avocados etc.
I have noticed in last couple years occasionally doing this that now I can cycle pretty quickly into a ketosis with a short water fast. (used to take like 2 days on water lol)
I know blood test or maybe breath tests are a better indicator of ketones but in the absence of that what level on the urine strips should one go for as a minimum?
So far I only got into the "small" range and sometimes "trace", except after a one day water fast I was in moderate.
It’s working so well for me already!
Did keto a few years ago when I was omni. It worked really well for me. Lots of life events happened though and I stopped keto. have been happily vegan for about a year now and was having trouble losing weight, my partner reminded me (to my chagrin) that keto was the best for me in the past. I was really fighting it and tried exercising every day / calories in vs calories out etc. but finally last week decided to give Vegan Keto a try and I’m already feeling so much less bloated, morning foot pain is gone, and the scale is moving again! 🎉
