Hey everyone, I released this song last week. Kind of a mellow rock vibe and a bit alt-country. :)

I have an interview for a tuition position next week at a studio. What is the average rate of pay for a 30 min, 1:1 lesson for studio vs private? I used to charge $40/30 mins back in Aus - which was on the lower end for private lessons. TIA!
Hey all, I’m a regular concert goer, but I haven’t checked out any ‘local’ act small venue shows in about 8 or 9 years. Would love to try that again, but noticing my tastes don’t quite align with a lot of the sounds these days.
Are there any up and coming active Toronto-based indie/alternative bands that play the bar scene / small venues that are worth going to see? Think Monarch Tavern or Sneakys type venues.
For taste context, my musical heyday was 90s alternative and the 2000-2014 indie scene.
Sample likes: strokes, broken social scene, arcade fire (before Win let us down), lcd soundsystem, death cab, postal service, bleed american-era jimmy eat world, the national, big thief, mazzy star, blue-era weezer, dookie-era green day, black rebel motorcycle club)
Sample dislikes: hey! bands (mumford, lumineers, vance joy, monsters and men), bro rock (born ruffians, laundry day), stoner rock (king gizzard)
Thanks in advance!
Hey everyone! I just released a new album! It's a self produced indie rock album inspired by vintage recording techniques and spaghetti western films. It'd mean a lot if you gave it a listen :)
Working young adult, living in Toronto. Looking for people to jam and create music with ! Mostly would consider myself singer/song writer but can play simple guitar chords. Looking for anyone in a similar situation looking for someone to bounce ideas off of and assist in the writing/creation process.
Local: Bloor-Yonge. Down to travel DT or from Landsdowne -> Warden.
Hi all,
My band Farewell Radio is looking to come from Peterborough to Toronto area to play some shows. We play hard rock, inspired by the 90’s-2000s. We all have reliable gear, and rehearse weekly. We’ve been together for roughly a year and a half. We’re looking to branch out and play in Toronto, any venue recommendations or local bands to message?
Thanks!
I’m an artist who just made mainly hip hop, rap and rnb music. I want to start pushing my music in the Scarborough and Markham area. Is there any gigs or shows specifically towards that genre I can attend to?
I’m pretty much new to Toronto (moved back after 4 years) and have since started a music career. Looking for any recommendations on how to branch out and get to know local music scenes!
Any other Reddit forums you recommend? Any venues, gigs, concerts to check out? Any places I ought to go? People I ought to meet?
Lmk!!! ෆ ෆ
Recorded on a cheap recorder from AliExpress (my phone is broken)
Love this new music video from The Lovin’ MC!
Looking to drop in on a session or just watch if its chill and open tomorrow afternoon.
Why is it that there is no minimum rate that musicians get paid. From looking at the “recommended” CMF fee schedule, artists should be paid a show $58 a minute - ~$2000 a show for a band playing an opening set….gar from what’s being paid rn in Toronto.
CMF must know that the average Canadian musician is not getting paid this. Is there a reason why the union hasn’t mandated this and it remains a recommended rate? Typical unions would definitely be advocating for this, for a living wage, but what’s the actual hold up for CFM. What’s in it for CFM to not mandate this?
4-6 songs, in a downtown core. Looking for suggestions. Thanks!
Hey everyone,
I’m an independent artist and I’ve recently started my music journey. I’ve produced two songs inspired by life in Toronto, and I’d love to make simple music videos to bring these tracks to life.
Here’s the thing—I’m pretty tight on budget (this is more of a fun passion project), but I’m hoping to get some help from the amazing Toronto community!
If you:
Have cool clips of Toronto (cityscapes, iconic spots, daily life) that you’d be okay with sharing, or
Can help film some shots with your camera or phone,
I’d be super grateful! I’m not looking for anything fancy, just something that captures the spirit of Toronto.
Any help, advice, or suggestions would mean the world to me. Feel free to reach out, and we can collaborate to make something cool together!
Thanks so much!
I hope this is an approvable post.
I am visiting Toronto again and ask you for help regarding places to eat and places to visit before and after the show at the venue, History. It is my first time there. If ever you have been there, please chime in with your thoughts about eating and hanging out near there or somewhere else too. I do not necessarily need to be close to History as I notice is it a little east of downtown. I can Uber or Taxi.
I visited your city a few times now, but never with the help of your Quora community. Knowing more about recommended places helps me to visit more often.
Thanking you in advance - Duke
I’m quite new to the music scene here. I’ve been watching shows of post-rock bands that pass through town. Out of curiousity; is there an actual post-rock crowd/scene in Toronto? Like, are there events that cater to local bands/artists in the genre? This comes from recently coming across a post (forgot where) that claims that Toronto music is basically dead save for pop.
Hi. I'm relatively new in Toronto. I just came across the subreddit. Glad I found it. Or maybe it found me.
Thought this may be of interest to Toronto Music connoisseurs: Wavelength has recently updated our digital archive. Dating back to 2000, you can now find artist pages attached to our past events. While still a work in progress, we invite you to look and reminisce about shows you attended or artists you still love.
Artists include icons such as controller.controller, Damo Suzuki, Feist, Fucked Up, Getatchew Mekuria and The Ex, I Am Robot And Proud, and Peaches.

If you see anything missing, or have additional material to add to our archive, please let us know! We hope to continue adding to this incredible history of emerging artists and local music culture in Toronto.
Hi! I’m working on a short documentary project that explores passion and the beauty of music. The film will be 3-5 minutes long and will include a brief interview along with some B-roll footage.
I’m particularly looking for musicians who play wind or string instruments like the saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, cello, double bass, bassoon, or similar. This is an unpaid project, but it will be a great addition to your portfolio and a chance to showcase your talent on screen.
If you play one of these instruments, know someone who might be interested, or know where to find those artists, I’d greatly appreciate your help. Thank you so much!
Hello all! Just arrived back in TO after being away more than 30 years. Releasing the first track "Reverie" off my new album to celebrate. Enjoy!
