I loved it. So interesting to see it all played out. Super fucked up what happened to that family and brought a whole new interest level to Russian history for me.
Also, was not expecting the show to be so sexy.
There are scenes that stick out in my mind vividly, particularly towards the end. I want everyone to watch this series..
That is all.
Just finished the show and Robert Jacks acting was soooo good, 10/10 for me. Ben Cartwright was amazing as Rasputin aswell and I really love the format of this series.
Binged the entire thing in one sitting. Even though we all know the Czar's family die in the end, it was still crazy tough to watch. And knowing that bullshit actually happened in real life makes it that much worse. Those poor children...
Excuse me, I need a drink.
This is a somewhat harsh review of the series. I do agree that I felt that at times the cuts between the scripted scenes and the historical commentary were bizarre. I would get into a scene and then suddenly it was over. https://medium.com/@dbink/netflixs-the-last-czars-a-sumptuous-mess-f4ef43475aec
Anyone else getting distracted from the episodes by how hot this narrator is?
I've been looking for the intro theme song for this show whilst watching the episodes,
because it's beautiful and I would like to listen to the entirety of it. It doesn't sound like that's the entire
song in the intro, it sounds cut up at the end and pasted together with the actual ending as to make it shorter.
I've found the names of the people/organisations that make the music for the show, but so far
not the actual song itself. Please let me know here if anyone finds it, it's one of those songs that's
just stuck in my head now :P
Names:
Main Title Theme & Additional Music by: Johnny Flynn & Joe Zeitlin

Over the years there have been several women who claimed to be Czarina Anastasia Romanov. I have first-hand testimony that none of them were, from her childhood playmate.
Concordia Gregorieff was a daughter of General Alexander Paul Gregorieff, one of Nicholas's senior generals & a friend of the Romanov family. Concordia was Anastasia's playmate, grew up with her in the Winter Palace. When Russia fell to the Communists the Gregorieffs fled, eventually landing in the US where my great grandfather sponsored them & began a friendship between our families that lasted the rest of Concordia's long life until her death in 2007 at the age of 103.
Whenever we met, eventually the subject of Anastasia & the latest claimant would come up. Every time, when shown a photo in a magazine or footage on TV, Concordia would decisively say in her strongly accented voice, "No. That is not the girl I played with in the Winter Palace." The last time I saw her was at her 100th birthday party. Near the end of her life Concordia wrote her autobiography, Broken Beads.
Every member of the royal family and their close circle of fam/friends is extremely beautiful, from Alix to the children, and especially Nicky. Those blue eyes, damn! Coming to Rasputin..... well.......... :-D !!
Why is there a black servant in the palace? This is not something I expect from Tsarist Russia. I can't imagine the production crew actually said "Ok, we need at least 1 black person to meet the diversity standards of Netflix." Is this just another case of Hollywood black-washing? Like when they showed black soldiers fighting in a battle in Medieval England (forgot the name of the film) or Pakistani and East Asian characters be in the middle of Viking Norway on "Vikings", or a black "Persian" messenger and generals in the film 300 (I know it's a comic book film, but really?)
Anyone noticed Czar’s tattoos in the on-the-floor sex scene? Seemed very odd
So I’ve been watching this since the wee hours of the morning and I’m wondering how accurate it would be that Rasputin’s daughter could write for him? Weren’t his family peasants?
NIGHTMAHR this is a NIGHTMAHR NIGHTMAHR scenario THIS IS A NICHMAHR scenario for the Tsar the royal family is in a NIGHTMAHR scenario
I mean I get it the whole reign was pretty much NIGHTMAHR scenario but I couldn't help but laugh how nearly every time that guy came on screen he was letting us know that uh oh, nicky's got himself into another NIGHTMAHR SCENARIO
Episode 1 is great so far. Brilliant portrayals of figures like Nicholas II and Rasputin, high quality sets and costumes, and compelling score make me hopeful Netflix will continue with series like these.
