I'm more of a beatles guy really, but as far as psychedelic tracks go, this one takes the cake.
It sounds so.... mysterious and whimsical. Like what paul was trying to do with sgt pepper but melodically very different from Sgt pepper, cream, Hendrix etc etc
The vocal harmonies, the lyrics, that weird instrumental that we hear the first two times after "...of the heroes and villains". It sticks out so much from everything else.
With all love, what do you think the worst line The Beach Boys ever sang is?
I made a post asking the same question some time ago, but no answers sadly. Does anyone have the full recording of the band's set at the Big Sur Folk Festival from October 1970? It used to be on YouTube but it got taken down sadly.
Guess I'm a bit behind, but I just saw this video for the first time. Cool! Also, see if you can spot an album cover or two.
I believe the word they sing on is "Dove" and I think it's a Fm7 chord but I'm not one hundred percent sure if that's it or what the voicings are. Does anyone know?
This instrumental Brian put together has a really booming sound. I initially thought he put this together during SMILE, but no! This was October 1965, according to the Wikipedia Pet Sounds article in leftover material. Like, if you have a listen, I would say this is pretty damn far out! Like really experimental... I am almost inclined to believe he didn't record this with a 43-piece orchestra that early.
He released the Little Girl I Once Knew a little later from this point, so it's possible he just really took off. Thoughts? Have a listen to the track! -> Three Blind Mice
For someone like me who got obsessed with Brian and Smile in the early 2000s, forums like SmileySmile.net, the old Smile Shop, endlessharmony boards, random angelfire sites, blogs, etc, etc, were indispensable resources for information, speculation and camaraderie for fans.
They contained (still do) tons of historical information, first hand accounts from insiders, fascinating breakdowns and interpretations of sessions, potential tracklistings, you get what I'm saying. A vast resource of information.
I always try to archive and bookmark the most interesting posts, and a lot of the forums pages are on Internet Archive. Very piecemeal. But I worry that we will lose this info forever. Smilesmile.net seems barely online (expired certificates, etc).
What I'm getting at is this: is there any effort out there to preserve these forums in a real way? A searchable database or something? I hope more web savvy people than I could put something together. Thoughts?
As an example, this ancient site https://smiledeli.tripod.com/archive.htm saved some important/interesting posts.
Can anyone give me the chords for postcard from California? I can’t find them online and I can’t figure them out.
Tracklist:
I mean he took LSD and wrote California Girls. In a complementary way, it sounds ‘syrupy’

Songs that frequently bring a tear to my eye: Our prayer I just wasn’t made for these times God only knows Surfs up Wouldn’t it be nice Caroline, no You still believe in me
Bought a new vinyl of Pet Sounds. I think the digital version sounds better. I have two nice turntable setups, one vintage the other new. It’s disappointing on both. I am missing something?
